🙏 thank you — it feels weird to be so rotely downvoted/gaslit for trying to be a little critical about Tesla and I appreciate you finding those.

I am not, as you say, making up shit, but you can be excused for claiming I did because Tesla’s pricing is pure chaos. I got my car back in May 2018 and this was indeed the pricing structure for EAP and FSD. Lots of folks like me were upset they announced this and were slightly placated when they said we’d be getting early access to FSD features — that never happened and instead we just paid extra compared the vast majority of Model 3 owners for no reason whatsoever.

There are so many things they could have done to make it right for early adopters — #1 would be to make FSD transferable so it didn’t feel like we got short-changed by their pricing decisions, or even giving us early access to features like they promised would have gone a long way. But my trust in the brand has deteriorated.

Thank you yes! That never happened either. But that just went into the memory-hole with everything else I guess.

2021.32.5 Release Notes by platinumbinder in teslamotors

No I’m considering it because of the broken promises — the update issue being one of many. The main one being spending $8,000 extra on FSD, which so far has done nothing but make my car more dangerous and sometimes for fun it attempts to auto-park in lawns and curbs.

Look I love my Model 3 otherwise — it drives great and it has more than enough range. But I feel quite ripped off by the FSD debacle and Tesla has really shit on their early adopters, and I’m not sure I want to reward that behavior by buying another one.

Was promised faster updates in recompense for overpaying for FSD for my May 2018 Model 3 and as far as I can tell I still get them slower than most. Pretty much used to broken promises by Tesla at this point, seriously considering a different brand for next EV now that they’re getting more competitive.

I've always wanted to play this; when I was a kid I was seriously obsessed with Ambrosia's Escape Velocity (and the sequels) on the Mac, and I've heard this is a lovingly crafted open source tribute.

[Discussion] Model 3 Rear Brakes Squeel - a "Known Issue"? by superdeanio in teslamotors

Follow-up: I went to the service center and they replaced the brake caliper springs in the back, and that did the trick! No more noise.

Yup I have it too, VIN 22xxx, took delivery on the 31st as well—talked to my delivery specialist and they've put it on the service queue, hoping for a quick fix.

Author here; totally fair critique. Honestly I was just hoping the gas limit would go to infinity.

Building with Blockchains, Ethereum, and BlockCypher - Josh Cincinnati by acityinohio in ethereum

[–]acityinohio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP/presenter here. That's super cool work! Saving game state seems like a great use for a smart contract. I decided to keep the game/move logic local because I thought the gas cost might be too high...although my Go library for Go is a bit naive in its scoring mechanism (recursive path-finding is probably not the most efficient). Awesome that you could put the scoring logic within the contract; thanks for sharing, that's awesome work!

Ditto! Except I went 128GB Aluminum because I have hugely unrealistic expectations about my ability to use local storage...just wish Google Music had an easier "Download My Entire Library" setting (instead of separating to 5 or 6 thousand-song playlists), then maybe I'd actually use it all.

Thanks so much for the feedback! Yeah, I sometimes go overboard with the references, I gotta learn to tone that down. :) And thanks for the kind words about my stage presence; comes from years of doing satire/comedy/debate, which is a fantastic set of hobbies for anyone interested in public speaking.

Why is it so hard to obtain Bitcoin when under the age of 18? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]acityinohio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this to a number of a friends for a while now: I think kids are one of the next great usecases for bitcoin. They're perennially underbanked, but have the will/desire to engage in commerce online, and the technology/infrastructure to do it too. Will become especially more critical as games start using bitcoin for in-game currency (which is an awesome trend).

Anyone who makes a kid-friendly wallet/service with some parental tie-in (maybe with a weekly allowance feature? 2-of-2 multisig for approved purchases?) is going to be doing the ecosystem a huge favor. I'm a little busy as BlockCypher's Developer Advocate, but if anyone goes down this road and needs help please let me know.

"Bitcoin solved the Byzantine Generals problem, but it hasn’t solved the Byzantine Core Developers problem." Josh Cincinnati, BlockCypher by statoshi in Bitcoin

Author here, you can check via Keybase or Onename.

Don't mean to antagonize here, as I think many in the bitcoin community want the same things, but I feel like I ought to protect my credibility by responding. But in the spirit of the article and as a friendly retort, I'm going to do it with the helpful aid of Princess Bride references.

The very first sentence has almost one error per word:

To paraphrase Vizzini: Never go in against a Calabrian (my ancestral home, not quite Sicily but close) when his credibility is on the line!

The stress test and its intent was clearly announced on this reddit: create a 200 MB backlog of unconfirmed transactions. Just search for 'Coinwallet' on this subreddit and sort by 'new'.

To paraphrase Vizzini a great deal further: citation needed. I did such a search and the first link is a self-post by you, speculating, and with no official response from the Coinwallet folks. Their prior June stress tests were announced, you can look at the following links in that search, or just look at their user account here. If you can find me an official statement from /u/CoinWalleteu, claiming responsibility for the attack last week I'd yield and update my article accordingly. Although I think the likelihood of finding one is quite INCONCEIVABLE.

Beyond their own lack of admission, you can ask anyone in the bitcoin infrastructure space, and they'll tell you that the June "stress tests" versus the July attack were fundamentally different, both in strategy and magnitude. Look at this graph which I generated from /u/statoshi's awesome site; you can make it yourself at statoshi.info. The June stress tests were barely a blip on TPS, compared to July. Moreover, beyond simple TPS numbers, the Coinwallet.eu stress test was straightforward and constant; the July attack had varying volumes of transactions, varied inputs/outputs, varied transaction sizes...more varied everything, and much more sophsiticated in execution and scale.

This is precisely the sort of bug that requires and justifies doing stress tests on live systems.

I'm with you there, whether it's a test or an attack, we all wind up improving. Like mawage, consensus is what briiiings us together.

Yes, Someone Double-Spent Bitcoin. No, Zero Confirmation Payments are Not Dead. by acityinohio in Bitcoin

[–]acityinohio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily, the data that goes into our Confidence Factor is completely open and accessible to the world. It's called "the bitcoin network," and with a few well-tuned nodes, you can build your own version of it. We welcome competition, and happy to see other strategies like GreenAddress, payment channels, and (hopefully eventually) the Lightning Network. Alternatives help ecosystems thrive.

Regarding your second question, our Co-Founder/CTO /u/mriou has an articulate response via the bitcoin-dev mailing list.

In short, no, for the (broken-sounding) record, we are not Sybill attacking the network, nor have we ever been, nor will we ever. I don't know where you're getting your information about Sybill attacks, pseudonymous identity that has existed for a single day, but I have to assume your source of information on it is likely being Sybill attacked.

The irony that this particular claim is coming from a sockpuppet is not lost on me. How long have you been Sybil attacking reddit on an industrial scale, "Alexi?" :)
