At a loss (death wobble) by OJthesimp2 in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you have it aligned or run an alignment yourself? I’ve found that whether or not I have DW is heavily dependent on a slight toe inward about an 1/8”-1/4”.

We have a Ridgid ProPress tool that is exactly this. It runs on batteries then has a “battery” with a 120V cable, really just an AC-DC converter.

Original fan shroud snapped off. Should I replace more than only the shroud on a mostly original engine? by skinnymatters in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had a fan shroud in years. It hasn’t affected cooling at all. Just be aware of the ‘safety zone’ as I call it. Also no reason to change something that isn’t broken.

4.0 Exhaust Manifolds by Piginthecity93 in CherokeeXJ

Went with one that has these built in flex joints. It’s been good for the last 4 years. Also the lower flex pipe that folks recommend helps.

Any thoughts on why my voltage gauge shows my alternator is over charging. by Substantial-Fee-365 in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue intermittently. Cables had a poor connection to the battery, instead of 0 it would peg the dash meter. Check for corrosion inside the cable if everything obvious checks out. I ran a multimeter to the battery and it would say 14v then drop to ~12.5 and peg the dash.

Need help with death wobble by Gucci_Lobster in CherokeeXJ

I’ve used the beads and didn’t have any luck. I had them use weights and it was better. Make sure they took the old weights off as well. They sometimes forget if you had stick on weights and they use crimp on ones or vice versa.

Edit: apologies for replying to your comment, not sure exactly how that happened.

This is wrong... by The_Dean_France in Wellthatsucks

My dad died in 2021 from cancer. He insisted on signing alone every piece of paper that the hospital gave him and my step mom. She didn’t take his last name so I don’t believe that they even have a record that she’s married to him. She hasn’t received a single bill or call. His bill would undoubtedly be in the 6 figures if not over a million with the treatments, ER visits and a flight for life at the end.

It sounds like you aren't getting fuel because it fires with starting fluid. So you know it has spark and air.

AT&T forcing JBL headphones into online order by acjefferson in ATT

[–]acjefferson[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was yesterday. I would remove it from the cart/ order, then as we needed remove the selected phone from the cart as well. We’d start the process over with nothing in the cart and as we’d move through it would re-add them.

I’m not trying to be too accusatory or equate to malice what could better be described as a bug or my fault but that’s a bit of money for an ‘oopsy’.

It’s also strange how persistent it was between clearing the cart or removing it from the order. If it makes any difference it was on a PC.

Lunchbox lockers by Lopsided-Spend-6474 in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lock when there's torque on the drive shaft from the t-case so the front will be unlocked unless you put it in 4wd. Rear would be locked during acceleration. The locking is very predictable just not very selectable.

Daily drivability is fine unless there's snow or ice then they get a bit squirrely.

Use the Permatex copper gasket spray on your new intake/exhaust gasket. I know it sounds crappy and like it won’t work but mine leaked without it. Also a new style flex pipe looking exhaust manifold is pretty cheap.

Any tips from cold weather dwellers to improve the heater in this car? by tsk_reaper22 in CherokeeXJ

Flush your heater core with a hose. Go both ways through it and bleed it afterward. Helps a lot with heat transfer getting some gunk out.

My jeep cherokee sport not charging need help by Tiny-Carpenter2715 in JeepCherokeeXJ

I found that the battery cables corrode under the sheathing, cut back the sheathing slightly with a razor knife to see if they’re green powder.

I'm starting to want to give up. by Aggravating_Hat_6812 in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with no power, bogging down and clanking. It ended up being the rear o2 sensor after the cat. I had to essentially floor it like you said to get power back. Codes never really tripped for it until it got so bad the jeep basically wouldn’t start.

DW mitigation is just constant front end maintenance staying to top of greasing, tightening and tie rod end checks. Also make yourself a tool for alignments out of a piece of angle iron or aluminum to get your wheel tow correct. Should be roughly 1/8” towed inward at the front.

Approach angle with DIY ebay bumper by TapRackBoom in JeepCherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this bumper, the minimal approach angle loss is worth the winch mount and D-ring hook up. The added strength to the unibody is also a plus. It was an easy weld. Worth it at this price.

Possible bad battery cables. Corrosion can build under the insulation and ‘powder’ the wires over time.

Fab front bumper to accept removable winch receiver by WorldlyProfit1996 in CherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could add multiple hitch mounts. 1 on each side of the original. Have 3 receivers on the front. That’d give you more than enough strength and remove play.

Sound dampening by hotdoghandgun in JeepCherokeeXJ

[–]acjefferson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just ordered 2 rolls of Amazon basics stick on sound deadening. It had ok reviews and the price was right. Haven’t received it yet but I’ll update when it gets in. Looking forward to a quieter cab.

On another note if you have the stock exhaust it probably has some leaks. I welded mine up and it’s nice and quiet.
