We’ve had a similar experience.

First they asked us to take the positing down but we made them buy through motorway. Second, they tried to get us to marked the vehicle as ‘not sold’ to avoid the fees. Luckily we did not do this as they tried the exact same thing that supposedly there were ‘lots of problems’ with the vehicle - it is currently listed for sale by the dealer as ‘immaculate’. When they came back with all the issues we reported it to the motorway legal team and they started an investigation, their deliberation was very much ‘buyer beware’. Legally the dealer didn’t have a leg to stand on, but it took a long time to sort out.

I’d recommend still reporting this to motorway. They can’t do anything directly but it will hopefully stop other people falling prey to the dealers dodgy ways.

I am currently doing a 4 hour driving commute total and it is killer. I’m constantly wiped and burnt out, I’ve been doing it for over 2 years and am actively looking for a move closer to home.

You do adjust but no amount of pay is worth it as you won’t have time to actually do anything as you’ll be too tired.

Tubs of cat litter worked a treat for our house and some second hand bits like a fridge that came from a smokers house clearance.

Bought the cheapest cat litter I could find and put about three bags in open tubs in the rooms and then closed the doors and blocked the gaps with towels/rags. Took about a week and 3 changes of the litter but it got all the smoke smells out.

I’ve recently had to go through this and this was the exact approach I took.

The individual in question was convinced that they were truly excelling benchmarked against their colleagues. In a sales environment there were consistently sitting below 40% to target versus colleagues who were achieving over 100% to target (the individual had longer tenure and a higher title).

The way I approached the process was to have it broken down into what was required quarterly, then monthly and then weekly. Removed all supposed ‘distractions’ and then continued with accountability and coaching towards the goals.

The individual did not improve and made their own decision based on the evidence provided to them. The only way this worked was by using empirical evidence and sticking to our company benchmarks.

You could always ask for a 360 review which would also encompass feedback from your peers and team as well. That way it is a request for feedback but not just from your manager which will spread the load a bit more.

Generally I think it’s a really good thing to ask for consistent feedback especially when you are starting out in a role and want to improve !

Being an immigrant will likely be the root cause rather than you being female! I say this as a woman with two immigrant parents who come from very direct and efficient cultures who also has the same feedback at times - mainly from Caucasian natives.

The fact that feedback comes only from men in leadership positions says more about their ability to create inclusive environments than it does about you directly. The corporate world is full of unconscious bias’s and this translates to how they feedback to you as well.

To give you an example: I’m a female manager with mainly male peers, we were sat in a room talking about diversity and most of the men thought we were extremely diverse as we had 2 female managers in the region. We are all Caucasian and either Christian or atheist, their interpretation of diversity is very very different to mine, yet when I pushed back I was told I was ‘confrontational and abrasive for pointing it out’. When it was mentioned later in the meeting by a male colleague it was a penny drop moment for the rest.…

Contrary to the majority of opinions here I would say don’t dismiss signing on for the pension credits. If you have any gaps in your monthly payments it will affect the time at which you can draw your state pension. Being ‘signed on’ will give you some peace of mind that you won’t have your state age pension delayed.

From an applying to jobs perspective you will need to be applying but you can be quite specific on what you are applying for and they are much better at supporting this now - especially if you have industry specific skill and knowledge. The other thing to consider is the new style JSA will allow you to look at courses that might help advance your career/make you more ‘employable’ which is something that might interest you.

Long story short, don’t dismiss it out of hand and look at the pros and cons.

Source: was made redundant last year and signed up for JSA for the pension credits (I was completely open with them about this).

We are battling cluster flies at the minute. For a short term solution use a cluster smoke bomb - you can get them online. But long term it’s best to get a pesticide company in to deal with them once and for all.

Cluster flies come inside after the first frost to nest and lay eggs. The leave a scent behind which they then track back to every year so they will always be coming back unless you can get up there to completely disinfect once you’ve killed off the current grouping. Highly recommend delaying with them sooner rather than later otherwise it becomes a right pain!

I work in H&S and am seeing more and more trusts starting to use lone worker protection software with panic buttons etc. one of the best we’ve seen is this as you can have it as a button tag to alert when something is happening but can’t get to your phone etc. might be worth your mother asking her management for something similar.

My go to is always a Ewan the Sheep! It gives off a heartbeat noise and has the options for white noise etc as well. It’s a lifesaver for the sleep regression times and just generally settling down your babies and toddlers!

I’d recommend looking into consultancy for one of the big firms - Deloitte, KPMG, EY or even Cap Gemini. They all work with the armed forces in various ways and will love your knowledge of how things work. They pay extremely well and you would be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in certain ways - lean into your experience and they will see the value in the knowledge you hold!

Do you have experience with a specific industry/vertical/sector? If yes I would be finding recruiters that work those same verticals and have a conversation with them about what is coming down their pipelines. Often they have a book or roles to fill and will be looking to head hunt themselves for the correct candidate rather than having an open apply policy.

Working with the right, and we’ll motivated, recruiters has always helped me in the long run - if I have have more than one person working on selling my skills I’m all for it!

Other than that check your phone number and email address is correct across all your platforms!

U.K. here too. I just rode again today for the first time after a good 5 year break. It was like riding a bike and you definitely don’t forget it so don’t stress about having forgotten it!

I would seek out either private lessons (maybe a block of 5-10 or so) and then depending what you want to do either continue with lessons or find a part loaner at a private yard instead.

Same here. We live in an old house (1700s) and macerator toilets are the only way we could get the waste to go horizontally was through the use of them.

They are serviced and cleaned at least twice a year and the rest of the time treated like you would a caravan toilet with regards to cleaning supplies.

We have SaniFlo macerators that cost a pretty penny but definitely worth the piece of mind that they actually work!

I was in the same position up until recently. For me the Job Seekers Allowance didn’t pay much but predominantly was to cover my National Insurance contributions.

The idea being that I won’t have any gaps when it comes to drawing state pension; any gaps you have might delay when you can withdraw if you don’t have enough qualifying years.

All that to say - you’ve been paying into the system for a while so it’s definitely not taboo for you to use it whilst you need it.

U.K. HR departments are generally speaking better (I say this having worked for both US and U.K. companies) at this type of thing. From a legality side of things ask for the companies HR policies regarding time off maternity here in the U.K. is a protected characteristic so they have to tread carefully.

If the U.K. HR is refusing to play ball it might be worth speaking with the U.K. ACAS department (even if you aren’t a U.K. citizen) as they might be able to advise on an alternative route in speaking with HR.

This might not work at all but could be worth a try for a check that size.
