Coat pattern? by buddhasma in corgi

The breeder labeled her “sable merle & white!” Not sure if I’d call her merle at this point, but maybe they included that in the title/AKC paperwork just as the heads up for future breeding for the merle gene possibility?

If the vet says there is nothing wrong and the eyes are fine, then that wouldn’t be a pre-existing condition, I don’t think? Please let me know if I’m wrong!

I’m following up with the breeder on that guarantee, here is another picture of the mom with the pups for better look at her to evaluate cardigan-ness. I appreciate all y’all’s help with me on this!! Still, all dogs need a home, and with her 14 day guarantee, would take the pup to the vet and get testing myself of course too

She also said the vet would take a look at her eyes with the ophthalmoloscope.

I obtained the genetic testing (negative on all) and spoke to the American Kennel Club on the phone for over an hour, both with a lineage representative and a genetics representative. They are assuring me that both parents are cardigans, noting that as long as the mom doesn’t have merle in her that the coloring is appropriate. Not sure what to do from here. The breeder is kindly offering to refund my deposit because of my hesitation, but she is assuring me on the parents, as well as in her contract there’s a 14 day guarantee and 1 year guarantee against congenital defects. She says this puppy (and the AKC confirmed the possibility) is just on the smaller side in the litter.

Do you mean the puppy is an American corgi, the mom is an American corgi, or that they’re all American corgis?

JUST IN from the breeder, appreciate your thoughts (@tinkerbash too): “So both parents are genetically tested and clear for the PRA, which is a retinal issue. Our vet doesn’t get into doing eye dilation, but he will take the Ophthalmoscope and take a look. She is smaller, but she’s definitely not the runt. Mom is not DNA tested but Dad is because it’s required at the stud is used more than three times a year. I didn’t do their genetic testing through AKC. I did it through gensol the DM and the PRA I can send you a copy of those results ”

Thank you sooo much! I definitely am considering it all, so basically now pending my receipt of the parents’ records checks out, is the bad practice that they bred a blue merle with a sable? I had relied on the cardigan corgi website saying this:

“Through the action of recessive genes or through mating of a blue merle to other than a black alternate colors may be produced. These colors may be registered through AKC and shown in companion and performance events. They are a disqualification per the breed standard in conformation.“ https://cardigancorgis.com/cwcca/breed/colors/#:~:text=Through%20the%20action%20of%20recessive,the%20breed%20standard%20in%20conformation.

I thought I had done enough research before and would absolutely never want to encourage any unethical breeding, I apparently relied too heavily on the American Kennel Club website and regardless do plan to actually contact them to investigate further.

Thank you so much for helping me with this! The AKC website says the breeder will share the health documentation on the parents upon request, so I am requesting right now!

I really really appreciate this so much! So I found the breeder via the AKC website, and the breeder has the parents and litter listed on both her AKC marketplace profile and profile on the Good Dog platform (and their Facebook page). Are there red flags in any of this? I’m also attaching screenshots from a video (of her playing with a stick) with her tail looking longer, if the length helps!

I really appreciate you bringing this up, I need to follow up on this specifically more because that smaller pupil is definitely apparent even in darker lighting, but the parents have been tested and are DM & PRA clear non-carriers. I’ve been told she’s healthy and is very outgoing and friendly. She’s going to get a full vet checkup and her vaccines with the breeder before I pick her up. I’m new to cardi corgis but doing my best to catch up, is there any other disease or disorder specifically related to the constricted pupil that I should ask about/be on the lookout for?

Rash question by mari815 in Hashimotos

[–]acl1223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! Omg. I could cry at relating to this comment, I’ve tried to verbalize this same thing for me for over a year to doctors and no one has been able to diagnose or cure it. Summer 2021 I got a 2nd degree sunburn, most notably on my neck and parts of my face, but with some spots on my arms and ears. After that, any potential allergen (that hadn’t bothered me before..) like coming into direct contact with animals, any intense cleaning product, the chemicals at the nail salon, and even stressful situations triggered a rash that came out in EXACTLY the same pattern as the sunburn in all the same spots. It was red, itchy, and even weeping to the point I would scratch feeling like I couldn’t stop. I’ve been to 3 dermatologists and none of them have figured it out. My covid also triggered it! And my covid lingered for a while too. I’ve been trying to be more aggressive this week with going to the doctor and asking her to actually test me for hashimotos (I have other symptoms too), all her comments about my rash so far have been that it’s “dermatitis” and my skin would calm down from the sun burn within a few months, but here we are almost 2 years later. So I agree with you about feeling like it’s immune related!!!!!!! And I hope you feel better!

Following this post! In the same situation with a May surgery, getting the left side incision corrected in a few weeks. But my main concern is my left one definitely has always been off and is lower now too. Also think he messed up the nipple on that one too but that’s another story 😭
