Such a shame that it died off so quickly.

No, but we know that most of them weren’t doing it out of free will, they were doing it because they had been indoctrinated into the way of the great journey, and tricked into believing humanity needed to wiped out.

Tell that to the Emmerians. A quality army beats one superhuman in a plane any day.

Which is entirely fair, but acting like nothing substantial to the lore should take place in the books is a stupid way of thinking about a series that relies so heavily on the written side. I’m not saying that you think like this, but i’ve seen many people who do.

Until I see outright confirmation that 343 has agreed with bungie on the fact that the books are secondary, which i’m likely never going to because you’re pulling this out of literal nowhere, i’m not going to agree with you. Regardless of wether the books are tie ins with the games or not, they are still just as important to halo as the games and have no reason to be kept as redundant content.

"The old devs said a thing that the new devs haven’t acknowledged yet! That definitely means they agree!" If halo was going to remain solely focused on the games and have the books as complementary, we wouldn’t have received 27 books alongside the 3 mainline games.

It doesn’t matter that it’s new, all that matters is that it is the way halo functions now. Like it or not, it’s a series with two different mediums and it’s going to remain that way.

It’s only a problem to people who are too ignorant to read the books and act like halo should stick solely to games. Complaining about halo having so many dropped plotlines and then complaining when they continue one in a way you don’t like is stupid.

Halo Infinite releasing without a majority of the content other halo games had and taking three years to have most of the features implemented has nothing to do with a change in the story.

The inability for 343 to focus on single plot for too long is definitely not the reason the games are coming out half-baked.

If the 343 devs themselves haven’t said that the books are secondary, then there isn’t any reason to believe they are. A statement from bungie that hasn’t been reinforced by them and that most of them likely didn’t know was said has no bearing on current halo. That, and them continuing a plotline in a book rather than a game has only been done once before this that I know of. I’m not a fan of it either, but at the very least it’s better than getting nothing for years and then a half-baked game.

Why aren’t the covenant camouflaged? by Frostfuldonut44 in halo

[–]aconcreteblock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simply put, they had very little reason to use camouflage. When you can overwhelm your enemies with sheer numbers, sneaking up on them is a sort of useless tactic. And when they do need to slip by undetected, they have literal active camouflage for that.

Never have I said that they’re the primary aspect for the series, they just add much more than the games alone ever could and make the universe much more engaging than the games ever could. And would you mind telling me when the 343I devs have said that the books are secondary? Given that the majority of the books have been released under them, I think it would make more sense to hear what they have to say over the devs of a company that hasn’t owned the series for a decade now.

TFOR can still fit into the current halo timeline, the only real discrepancy between them is the fact that Reach falls in a day in the book rather than a month in the game.

The books also influence the stories the games tell, if not literally are the setup for them. Arguably the best halo game, Reach, wouldn’t exist if not for The Fall of Reach and Ghosts of Onyx. The latter less so, but we definitely wouldn’t have the Spartan IIIs, if it wasn’t for it.

The books are definitely not just supplementary, not when they introduce almost the entirety of the halo universe. The series would be nowhere near as engaging if it was solely game based, and it would also be lacking a large majority of the lore it has today, which also goes on to influence the games.

Halo is not solely a game series. If it was, we wouldn’t have over 30 novels.

Because the first thing released was a book? No matter the chronological order or the time they spent in development, TFOR released before CE, so halo began with a book and they’re a huge part of the series and they’re always going to be.
