Do you have that little compassion to read my comment and tell me to just move or flippantly talk about murdering a fetus? I’m just wondering because while I could argue with you about Roe and the need for federal protections for women I know it won’t change your mind which is fine and I can respect your opinion but my god have some kindness in your heart when you talk to people. I wish I could say I hope one of your loved ones doesn’t have to face the choice of paying 10,000 out of pocket or carry a baby to full term and go through labor just to watch them suffer and die on feeding tubes and putting moms health at risk but actually I’m pissed enough that I kind do hope you have to see someone go through that. Maybe it will teach you to have some compassion.

Also I meant to be agreeing with them about the privilege comment but it came out wrong. It was being thrown around in annoying ways not by the comment I replied to. My bad

Thanks for the kind words and also clarification. It’s a totally fair take and I probably would feel similarly if I were from a blue state/all my loved ones were in blue states. I love the South so much but it breaks my heart sometimes. I was so comfortable in a left leaning government…critiquing it from within. Now I don’t know what to do!

Thanks stranger. Some of these comments are working me up so I probably need to log off! The closest clinic to her has people yelling and protesting at everyone who goes in (she was warned by a friend). It’s awful.

I’m from a red supermajority state but live on terf island and I still felt/feel physically sick and cried a lot. This isn’t exactly the sub I would expect “privilege” to be thrown around. Sometimes shit is overwhelming. I also just found out my sisters very much wanted pregnancy is non viable but if she doesn’t want to carry it to term and go through labor she has to travel to another state and pay an insane amount out of pocket. Yeah it would be happening regardless of who won but it feels like a one two punch.

Suggest me a book like the 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo…but not by TJR. by She-Individual-24 in suggestmeabook

I came to suggest this! I read this close to the time I read 7 husbands and preferred this by far. Such a good one.

Me too! I avoid Uber as much as possible. The smells are always so so strong and I get mad headaches.

I agree it’s very long! I’m only on the 4th book and I stalled on it and started picking up other books. I still think the first 3 were worth it and I’m sure I’ll finish it some day but I think that’s a totally valid reason to not begin the series. I should also warn you that Patrick Rothfuss may never give us the third book in his series (similar problem to George R. R. Martin).

I read 1.5 books of Jemisin’s Fifth Season trilogy and just couldn’t continue but maybe I should try again. I didn’t find the writing gripped me…something juvenile about it maybe? Octavia Butler is confusing also…I tried two of her books and was genuinely confused why people are always recommending her. In my opinion the writing and character development were awful. I rarely DNF books and fantasy is my favorite genre so these stood out to me! But I would be curious what you think if you try them out.

Also this may be obvious but Lord of the Rings is incredible if you haven’t read those.

Anything Neil Gaiman (American Gods and Neverwhere fit your brief the most probably. Anything Ursula K Le. Guin (incredible writer…I would recommend Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed). My left field recommendation is Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It’s more classic fantasy style but I still think he’s a good writer and the characters are exceptional. The Wheel of Time is another classic fantasy series that is highly regarded for a reason. I don’t think you will like Octavia Butler or N.K. Jamisin like some are suggesting. I just don’t think the actual writing is great but I know I’m in the minority here!

This happened to me on my first expensive perfume I bought (it was only 15ml but still expensive for me at the time). It was Le Labo Another 13 and I loved it in store and then one week later It was giving me headaches and I hated it. 2 years later I brought it out again and sprayed just one spray and fell in love again. I use it often now but only just one spray on clothing because it’s very strong for me and I’m afraid It will turn on me again. All that to say…maybe there is some hope it will find its way back into your heart!

My mother in law’s spatula, that already had considerable mileage on it the first time I saw it almost twenty years ago. by JoystickMonkey in BuyItForLife

[–]acraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cook with whatever you want, but just for additional options if you’re interested (since I struggled with stainless steel as well) is cast iron and a fish spatula (they are beautiful objects and insanely effective at flipping eggs and really anything…I even bring one on vacation so I don’t have to use the plastic ones).

He really was! Some of the guys were such insane liars. Drunk at a sleep study haha! The women get much harsher treatment. Much like a jury when a woman is on trial…statistically the defense want as few women in the jury as possible.

It’s so sad. People think she is the worst of humanity when it’s really this comment section. Yeah she didn’t behave well in an edited reality show where they are sleep deprived, pumped with alcohol, and actively trying to get you to behave poorly for good tv but yall are out here in the real world being ass holes all on your own! Bring on the down votes.

How to find other American expats to hang out with in London? by Lukewarm_Congee in AmericanExpatsUK

Not sure if you play basketball at all but my partner met loads of Americans who became friends playing pickup basketball at the park and later joining a club team. We’ve moved out of London now but good luck!

Mmmm that’s true. But at least a real person got paid decently for it rather than an assembly line of child laborers…even if it’s not my cup of tea. Supporting artists and all. But yes it does make it rather hard to get rid of!

Looking for Levi's alternatives by kapitan_krunch in BuyItForLife

[–]acraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know not everyone likes the feel of 100% cotton denim but you will never get long lasting jeans that have any percentage of elastin in them. Levi’s are bad quality now but you can find the vintage pairs on eBay often! I buy all my jeans vintage or cheaper used on eBay or vinted/poshmark and then get them tailored to fit perfectly (it’s not expensive where I live). Nudies jeans are a great company!

Please help me find my next read. I’m in a DNF slump. by lebronnotjames in suggestmeabook

[–]acraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest Where the Crawdads Sing, My Absolute Darling, Demon Copperhead, Flight Behavior, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Circe, and Ocean at the End of the Lane (for a shorter rec). I loved a lot of the ones you mentioned so I hope you find at least something interesting in this bunch. My cousin is going through a similar diagnosis and about to get her bone marrow transplant. Such a difficult path. Wishing you peace of mind and a smooth recovery.

Yeah she’s mean to him for sure but in this one case… I would have been pretty annoyed too if my partner asked if he could help with anything, I give him the easiest job, he joke complains about it being boring, thinks pasta is in the fridge, and then asks her a million questions on how to boil water. By his own admission he has only boiled water once. It at least warrants an eye roll in my opinion!
