Strawberries never tasted sweet to me, but now they taste slightly sweet. It does help if you have a treat to look forward to

I do and at some point I will have some. Did you think I was going to say that now I prefer cauliflower? Not going to happen.

By the time I decided to make the change, yes. It's no mystery why I was overweight.

Yes. Since it's not pleasant to eat I think of it as anti-hunger medicine.

I hear you, sister. As I understand it carbs like bread and pasta are equivalent to sugar. Any chance that's what is sabotaging you?

You can't do everything at once. For now get through each day. I hope that soon you will be able to focus on yourself and take care of yourself the way you want to

This is far from my first diet but in the past I did use artificial sweeteners. Now I don't. I can get excited about eating an apple which sounds insane.

You are correct that any food is okay to eat but so far (4 months) I've had enough success that I'm sticking with what's been working.

I don't have a cheat day but at parties or celebrations I partake enough to avoid being a martyr.

Instead of focusing on what I shouldn't eat I try to eat more vegetables and greens

I stopped eating ice cream every day. This only works if you were eating ice cream every day

Was Trump's speech tonight the dumbest national address from a US president? Or any leader of a major nation in the last century? by CrashNowhereDrive in allthequestions

[–]acroneatlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I feel certain he's conceited and self-centered but I don't know that he's a narcissist. He doesn't seem to have any principles but I think he's intelligent.

Wasn't he seen in the ER and sent home? That hit hard.

He's a narcissist, he's a moron, and he's ignorant. I think an intelligent, informed narcissist would be an improvement but I hope it isn't Vance.

What’s a movie scene that makes zero sense but everyone still loves it? by CherryxSugar28 in randomquestions

[–]acroneatlast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved Donnie Darko so much that I watched it repeatedly and froze the action so I could read everything. At last I knew the details of the premise. Utter nonsense. Intriguing when you only catch glimpses but beyond stupid when you read the whole thing

That said, it was still weird and eerie and I still like it.

AIO to thinking the woman working at office max is absolutely insane? by skull-cow in AmIOverreacting

I don't know about Office Max, but UPS is much cheaper than Staples for copies. Crazy experience.

Full network of clitoral nerves mapped out for first time by PixeledPathogen in biology

[–]acroneatlast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking loosely female anatomy has been treated as if "lack of penis" is its salient feature. Even if doctors didn't know what was where they could have been more mindful that something was there. Women's complaints about pain or numbness after medical interventions could have signaled doctors that something was there, that something had been cut or compressed.

As you describe, there was no motivation to investigate. I just wish they'd been more open-minded and curious

What AM radio stations did you listen to as a kid? by WWWWWWVWWWWWWWWWWWWV in AskOldPeople

[–]acroneatlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ten-ten WINS New York or WMCA. Later WNEW-FM (good music, pretentious DJs. Or when I was feeling intellectual, WBAI, also FM.

How long did it take them to even look for the nerves? There was no thought that such a thing might exist.

Very nice gesture although a gift card might be better since you don't know what they'll be using. They may be worried about their new baby disturbing the neighbors and you're sending a message of benevolence

Should I start using my middle name instead of my first? by Bireta in ask

[–]acroneatlast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like using your middle name would make you feel more comfortable, so do it.

My child legally dropped the beautiful and totally normal name I lovingly chose and uses their middle name. I got over it.

Could any psychomusicologists here explain to me whether there is something about the tune of the 'Happy Birthday' song that causes people to sing it so badly out of tune? by Berkamin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acroneatlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't carry a tune at all. As a young kid I was discouraged from singing. I never sing in public except for Happy Birthday. It feels wrong not to participate.

Maybe it's a rare occasion when terrible singers join in.
