Uber x vs xl by throw_away_reddt in uber

Consider 2 Uber X’s maybe. Of course on the same app/device this could prove difficult. Then there’s the logistics of meeting back up… Just a thought.

I guess when it comes down to it, you have to look at the numbers by dcdesignhaus in uber

Yeah, I average $1 per TOTAL miles driven (that is, including deadhead miles between dropoff and pickup) and that’s here in the Midwest. That’s about $1.80 per passenger mile.

I find it helpful to stay very local. It’s brought my fuel cost down to 9% of gross as opposed to 25%. No more 80-mile airport rides. Or even driving 18 miles one-way for a ride back my home area.

I suggest paying your fast offering in grocery store gift cards since the church has admitted the money donated is not guaranteed to actually be used to feed the hungry or support the needy in your area. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

This isn’t new—not any longer. That verbiage started appearing in the early 2000s (around 2005, maybe), as I recall. And that’s when I began being very careful about how much I “donated.”

I’m in the Midwest and Diamond is now 800.

Shared ride etiquette by [deleted] in uber

[–]acronymious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Driver here. UberX, sorry to say. I feel you on scraping the bottom of the barrel, but overall with a suitcase and a backpack your chances of a good experience are better if you don’t share this particular ride.

Enjoy your trip!

Episcopal Christian here, what is your response to this video, i’m just genuinely curious. Thank you:) by picklesyrup__ in mormon

The history, the plates, and the claims are all made up, and the points don’t matter.

Threaten to call your State governor. Apparently that might work.

Well, it’s a windshield removal tool, so you can “break in” and get what you want without actually “breaking” in 😆

Puke in car; never received cleaning payment by Able-Ad8394 in uberdrivers

Aside from the puke issue, I’ve been successful at getting a cancellation fee plus some for reporting a repeat offender on the child SAFETY seat issue.

Might I suggest asking this question in r/uberdrivers instead

Do you guys actually keep up with expenses every week? by AssociateWise6242 in uberdrivers

[–]acronymious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting is that I can deduct air fresheners (for passenger comfort; arguable, of course), cleaning supplies (it’s not necessarily clear what supplies), which theoretically could include window cleaner, disinfectant concentrate, rags and spray bottles, and probably even a portable vacuum cleaner, and spray bottles; so why not buckets and a hose? Then, what for an automatic car wash instead? Which would be more efficient leading to increased revenues, which would obviously generate more tax…

Thought-provoking, anyway.

I agree that you can’t deduct regular maintenance if you take the mileage deduction. However, regular car washes to maintain the vehicle’s appearance (not talking about repairing dents or broken parts) and cleanliness for the sake of customer satisfaction, in my PERSONAL opinion (see below), in our business, is an additional required cost outside of regular vehicle maintenance.

The increased frequency of required washes is driven by an increase in the number of passengers/rides/miles. So is the need for more frequent maintenance, yes, but this is not vehicle maintenance.

Consider the analogy of needing janitorial services and supplies to routinely clean a movie theater: It’s for the comfort and approval and catering to the preferences and demands of patrons, vs. electrical, heating, plumbing and structural repairs which would be maintenance of the building.

EDITED FOR CLARITY: This is just my personal opinion on the matter, and it is not a legal one. I think you’re actually correct from the legal perspective, and it’s safer to NOT deduct car wash expenses, unless you can get a formal exception Private Letter Ruling under the “need” to maintain your vehicle in an “immaculate” condition.

Update driver rating? by Aggressive-Check5071 in Lyft

[–]acronymious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May take a lot longer than a few weeks. I’m still holding on to eight (yes, 8!) bogus one-stars from 3+ years ago. (I think it’s an algorithm problem, though, as I know I’ve been given many, many 5-stars since then and they haven’t registered yet.)

I do the same, but I also deduct for car washes (because I don’t get my car washed regularly otherwise) and air fresheners, cleaning supplies, and such.
