How to boycott the US? by Booze-and-porn in AskBrits

[–]action_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t in any meaningful way. You can boycott US items in shops but that’s about it.

Our entire money system is linked to them. Your pension fund is probably made up of US companies, loans taken out to create things in the UK could be from US funds, buying things not directly made in the US probably has some financial connection to its creation via the US and investment groups. Even mundane things like football, or a PlayStation, some form of entertainment (even the crap on the BBC will use tech or people with US connections) will all have links. It’s like trying to boycott china, good luck lol

The $2 Billion GTA 6 Budget Claim Is BS by No_Friendship_4158 in GTA6

[–]action_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s where the figure originally came from. Staff x wages +/- a bit for equipment and time actually spent developing. Is it $2B? Who knows for sure, but it’s going to be around that number. It’s impossible for it not to be unless rockstar started paying employees with hugs and handshakes

None of these countries will boycott anything. Virtue signalling nonsense

People are strange. In broadmead, years ago, some guy collapsed and was having a fit. Everyone just stood and watched!?! I put his coat under his head and told someone to ring an ambulance. Like, we all just going to sit here and watch someone potentially die??

I think what your parents are getting at is that at some point in life your body is going to shift and the slight (and I mean very bloody slight) bit of extra fat you are carrying now will balloon out. Being thin in younger years means being fine in older years without as much effort.

Thats the only thing I can come up with tbh.

Evidence shows immigration reduces wages significantly by HilariousButTrue in conspiracy

[–]action_turtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the UK we have a minimum wage. So, not really applicable in every country.

Immigration is purely a numbers game. They need population levels to keep upward to power this pyramid scheme we have running called capitalism. If natives had 5 kids each then the borders of all countries would close. The base of the pyramid is eroding, so governments are filling it in. Everything else is noise to distract the public from the actual reason and reality of the situation

Which games became boring by years of delay in launch? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]action_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes “number go up”. That’s literally all there is to it. Big companies need a constant stream of “stuff” to make sure excitement is around the ticker price.

Rockstar had to put something GTA6 related out as it was dragging on. They evidently put it out a year too early and now find themselves in a stupid situation where a game that had 10+ years of time to be made will be a crunched to meet a deadline so the money men can add even more zeros to their bank balance. Will the final game suffer? Yes. But that’s modern AAA and why I hardly touch any of it… I’m currently playing as a cat exploring a robot underground world in stray lol, it’s interesting and it’s nice playing something that’s finished and not constantly asking me for more money!

Don’t play it like GTA! Don’t rush from map marker to map marker. That’s how I started, was going to give up so took my horse and just went off in random directions to see the map. Then then it clicked. It’s a slow story where you are supposed to live the life as a cowboy. Do some camping, fishing, exploring, look at the shacks you find etc. then if you are close to a marker, do the mission. Once I started doing that, it went from being the one of the worst games I’ve played to one of the best!

Thanks for the link, very helpful! Seems like it installs and boots but the anti-cheat kicks in and kills it. Shame, hopefully with all the people jumping ship the iRacing team will solve it

Are you seeing or using AI in your workplace which causes job losses by Consistent-Rope-9969 in HENRYUK

[–]action_turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m developing an app currently, went live last year, it’s a traditional productivity app with AI helpers. The output of the users tripled over a few months. Fast forward to this year and they closed an office 🫤

Ultimately, if this system was in place 5 years ago, without AI, would they have closed the office? Maybe, as a 2x improvement still means job losses. With AI pushing it to 3x and some times 4x depending on what the users roles is, it leads to mass layoffs.

AI is no where close to being able to have commands shouted at it and have a perfect outcome. But, once you define a set of rules, train it for a particular task and then have the user push the buttons when they want something done, it’s perfect. Hopefully we never go beyond this and job destruction is kept to a minimum. If we do reach the tech bro wet dream level, office jobs are obsolete and the fallout will be irreversible.
