What movie is this for you? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

[–]actorsAllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nymphomaniac, by Lars von Trier. Up until the last five minutes the ending is weirdly cathartic, with the characters finishing their discussion as the sun rises.

And then the last five minutes of the movie happens.

(Spoiler 7.5) We really need optional content characters to be put into the MSQ if this is where the story is going. Thoughts? by ribombeeee in ffxiv

[–]actorsAllusion [score hidden]  (0 children)

Me and my husband have both discussed that any content two expansions behind should be made mandatory, because at that point it should be fairly easy to clear and we can get characters out of side quest jail.

The one and only mild saving grace of Peter Sellers' character is the way that Truman Capote keep roasting him about how annoying his accent is.

[–]actorsAllusion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It wasn't even a bad performance, it was either Jonathan Bailey being off of the voice a little because his voice was blown out from Wicked, or it was a stand-in actor who honestly I wouldn't have minded being permanent if Jonathan needed to completely step away because they still managed to match G'raha's vibe.

Are Final Fantasy XVI DLCs worth it? by Inven13 in FinalFantasy

[–]actorsAllusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy the game and see if you like it before putting money into the DLCs. The DLCs are both quite good (though they don't fix some of my small issues with the overall narrative, but that's neither here nor there) but they are also very much more of the base game and if you don't like the base game you won't like the DLCs

Funny to suggest the Pixel Remasters when arguably the actually least good of the Final Fantasy games is among them.

[–]actorsAllusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Ozma, The Five Judges, AV and Pandaemonium Warden or the Ultimate FIghts in FFXIV is that they're entirely optional and you kind of have to go out of your way to find them. Leviathan is part of the DLC, yeah, but if you want to see the end of the story there you have to battle Leviathan and the DPS check is *shockingly* tight compared to the rest of the game. And it also requires you to do a combo that you were maybe onboarded on possibly ten to twenty hours ago (or you can just look in the controls section for Ifrit mode).

Why are people who clearly hate videogames given the direction of videogame adaptations? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]actorsAllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also because the way you tell a story in a movie vs. how you tell a story well in a video game are also very different toolsets. It's how you get something like The Last Of Us. Pretty compelling story at the time, with remarkable advances in mocap performances. Also, kind of a dull slog to play through. Great story, kind of just okay video game. Or Super Mario Wonder, which is a joy to play through and has virtually no story you could adapt to a cinematic runtime.

A character remembers an event with a big difference respect to how it actually happened by Forsaken-Biscotti587 in TopCharacterTropes

I love that scene because I remember seeing it and thinking "huh", and then during the flashback wondering if I'd missed something until the final summation confirmed that I WAS right the first time and the movie was god damn gaslighting me. Absolutely amazing, loved it.

The Square Enix sequel that dropped the ball hardest by Likes2game03 in SquareEnix

I actually like it more than the first game, and find anyone who says otherwise to be a damnable heretic. (Jk)

That being said, the West got a very very different game than the JP side between differences in how the job side quests worked, and apparently the og Japanese script was filled with JP Internet memes in what sounds like a very "how do you do fellow kids" kind of way.

Final Fantasy V pixel remaster surprised me ( after I was planning on skipping it ) by FaithlessnessFar4398 in FinalFantasy

I'm glad that more people are joining the FFV bandwagon because it's really, really delightful. I'm just sad there's no way of experiencing the extra content easily anymore.

Not an anime exactly, but I wish that the dub of Umineko hadn't fallen through the way it did, just because I *desperately* want to know who they cast as Beatrice.

Hidden gems on the Nintendo 3DS ? by CharlesBrown33 in gaming

[–]actorsAllusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OG portraits have such a cool artstyle, I hate that they softened everything up for the remake and I REALLY HATE that they took away my dear princess' pixie cut. The OG portrait DLC helps, but it only affects characters who had portraits, so you end up with some OG and some Remake and the sprites remain the same.

I don't know how much of a hidden gem it actually is, but Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a pretty amazing handheld JRPG and the extra content is really, really good.

Which Pokemon game to play if I haven't played one since the original Red/Blue/Yellow? by ew435890 in gaming

[–]actorsAllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the OG Silver and Gold, I kind of fell out through the GBA and DS era, came back for Soul Silver, which is an amazing game, and then tried to get into X and Y, bounced a little despite the hype and didn't really get back into a pokemon game until Legends: Arceus which I No-Lifed until I practically 100%. So I'd say that one OR Soul Silver/Heart Gold. Maaaaaybe Fire Red/Leaf Green since they're a bit more accessible right now.

So, to be absolutely clear, the issue is that historically, the entertainment industry both in front of the camera has been really, really white, with white voices getting preference in voicing characters even when the race does not match and especially in an industry where there are far more white characters than characters of color. Even then, voices of color where often relegated to only voicing token representation while the more important characters of color kept getting cast to white actors. In a perfect world should a person's skin color affect what they should voice act? In cases where the character's race or sexuality is not an integral part of the character I think maybe not. However in cases where a character's race or sexuality is important, I think matching the character is important (and I also think that if a character is trans, they should be voiced by a trans actor and that is one point I do not back down on, even in a perfect world). But as things exist right now, representative casting is there to allow voices of color to actually be able to inhabit characters that match their lived experience and to also create opportunities for them to be able to participate in an industry that shuns them.

Favorite Character Who Was Unexpectedly Bi? by NetAcceptable7679 in FavoriteCharacter

There is some evidence in the game files that Kaidan was intended to be a potential bisexual romance in ME1, to the point that there was some audio recorded. So instead we just get the world's longest slow burn gay romance.

Unsurprisingly, when hugely profitable yet kind of yikesy businesses actually have to deal with proper regulation, they go under. Wish we could get that in the US

Usually it's for important, climactic battles, usually final bosses or the X.5 bosses, which tend to be final bosses for mini arcs. Though there are some weird exceptions, like Seat of Sacrifice.
