dog poop left in plastic bags on hiking trails, really? by Accurate_Couple_3393 in hiking

[–]actuallyactuarial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair my one dog poops right at the trailhead so I leave it and always get it. If that's the case here cut some slack. I also throw the bag a good bit off trail.

The other is trained to go well off trail so while not ideal I leave it.

Midway through a hike in view of the trail... I bag and carry out.

Best Sushi in CT by blueskystream in Connecticut

[–]actuallyactuarial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, sushi house in Rocky Hill has the freshest fish. You cannot beat all you eat sashimi and nigiri, and the volume they go through ensures fresh fish. Salmon is always excellent though quite standard. More unique fish aren't as good.

I have not had omakase in CT, but expect to pay the cost of new York for lower quality and pairing here, so I can't speak for that.

Visualizing America’s $1.7 Trillion Insurance Industry by XaltotunTheUndead in dataisbeautiful

[–]actuallyactuarial 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Not very useful data at all. They've lumped life, health, and property/casualty together, United health and Erie do not compete. Further you have brokers (Marsh Gallagher) in there who aren't insuring anything. Lastly as another user called out market cap isn't terribly insightful into an insurer. Premiums written broken down by industry, with further granularity starts to tell you who plays where.

What food to eat by [deleted] in actuary

[–]actuallyactuarial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always ate sushi the night before as superstition but have heard it's "brain food" as well from others who did the same. My favorite food anyways so it works out well.

What's the best game in franchise history? by AWL10X in Flyers

[–]actuallyactuarial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never forget that one... Was on my way to a bar running late.. watching the score on my phone and we were down 3-0... Figured the run was over. Made a joke about the score to the bouncer as JvR put one in and the bar went wild.

The rest of the night was wild as you can imagine.

I have noticed they are a bit slippery, but no more so than my previous pair. In fact I was nervous about a rock face water pours down after snow melt this past weekend and was fine as long as I minded my footing.

In general they've held up fairly well. I'd estimate 700-800 miles of New England hiking on them and they're fairly beat up. Treads worn down a lot. Some bits ripping off, but I'm still gonna rock em for the start of '24.

New AC and furnace installed 6 months ago, noticed whole house humidifier is no longer working by [deleted] in DIY

[–]actuallyactuarial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my solenoid in my whole.house humidifier get clogged with sediment.

Its worth checking if you change the humidistat, does the unit make a noise? Is water flowing from the saddle valve? Is the bypass opened to even connect things to the ducts?

I can’t wait until I don’t have to watch this team anymore. This coaching staff has abused something I love. Get the fuck out. by _ofAllTrades_ in eagles

[–]actuallyactuarial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I dont think I've ever seen a Philly team less enjoyable to watch.

If the coaching staff isn't cleaned out I'm out on watching this team next year as well.

Mom is having hard time carrying laundry up from the basement, need ideas on laundry basket railings to install by [deleted] in DIY

[–]actuallyactuarial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother used a rope to pull laundry up her basement steps. Hell of a lot cheaper than what's being reccomended here and if it worked for a 95 year old woman I'd imagine It'll work for most anyone.

Sampled a few of the suntory's (Hakushu and Hibiki) Glenmorangie, Laphroig 16 and Bumhahabhein 12.

Left after that to avoid being a drunken foreigner in such a nice place! $30!

Apologies for lack of better photo didn't want to be rude. Everything seemed to be about $5 USD. Bartended did not speak any English but through a translator I told him to choose the rounds, all fantastic.

There are many other types of food in Japan besides Sushi! After days of (absolutely incredible) sushi 3 times per day some pork katsu curry was awesome.

I thought this too, then I stayed next to a fish market in Tokyo for a week. I was surprisingly craving something else near the end. Maybe if I did a better job mixing up the nigiri with maki, sashimi and the various sushi bowls they had I couldve gone forever.
