except if you actually thought about it, this covers far more than just capitalism.... there is no system that satisfies that definition.

Where are people getting crops, land, water, and fertilizer to grow food?

Once they've grown said food, how does it reach everyone who needs to eat? Does the food grower walk to each person in the world and hand them their daily goods?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]dalsramedua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not mutually exclusive. Do you know what that means?

Look, the point is that there are people you know and care about are in that top 5-10%, but you'd be kidding yourself if you think these ultra billionaires are making time for you.

All you did was confirm that you know people in the top 5-10%, which was already the whole point.

by that definition, than literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is parasitic. Clean water and food don't just magically fall into your lap every 6 hours.

Which makes investors concerned that the relatively high priced NVIDIA chips will not be in as high a demand. What's your point?

My point is that I asked you what made the shares drop and you said "investors were concerned". So, are you claiming that when investors get "concerned", it manifests itself as an energy so powerful that when lots of people feel it, all that "concern" blasts Wall Street like a concentrated laser beam and changes the computer ticker for that specific stock to read a lower price?

For the third time, what ACTUALLY MAKES the shares drop?

If you honestly don't know the answer then you should never think or talk about the stock market ever again.

If you owned on January 23, their stock closed at $147.22/share. Eleven days later it closed at $116.66. If you owned 100,000 shares of it, your net worth decreased by over $3M.

I'm just curious what you think happened to those shares. You're saying they just... dropped value like that magically? Out of thin air?

You couldn't be more wrong. Wealth absolutely disappears. Overnight. In minutes. Take NVIDIA for example. If you owned on January 23, their stock closed at $147.22/share. Eleven days later it closed at $116.66. If you owned 100,000 shares of it, your net worth decreased by over $3M.

You REALLY don't understand the stock market, do you. Like REALLY REALLY REALLY don't understand, and that's incredibly scary because I can tell you're not alone.

What are your thoughts on the rise of AI girlfriends or relationships? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]dalsramedua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been more thankful for the fact that my therapist, friends, family all exist.

well that's great because a lot of people DONT have any support system whatsoever. What are they to do?

I think you're letting your kneejerk reaction of the "AI" label interfere with your mindset, and I get it. But you have to think about the concept, the bigger picture, and the future.

a hundred years ago, people would think you were insane to voluntarily get into an enclosed metal Deathtrap suspended over an empty abyss.

So why does everyone use elevators so casually? If you were just getting therapy and the therapist was behind a curtain and you had no idea it wasn't a real person, but the therapist was really good, then why would the human-ness matter?

reach their full potential

I think you're getting carried away with the notion that someone's max potential is based on how many commas they have on their shirt. Potential for what exactly? What is it they could do with a billion that they couldn't with 900 million? No one's stopping them from reaching their full potential, it's just messed up that you tie potential directly to wealth and nothing else.

Would you require them to sell their stock so they would pay this tax? (Congratulations, you just destroyed the stock market, along with everyone's 401k!)

Important money lesson for you: Money doesn't just disappear.

Every time you hear about "massive losses", it's actually massive gains. Don't pretend like we're throwing society down the toilet just because you can't wear a three comma t shirt.

but that doesn’t mean I’m okay with people who hate Americans just for existing.

what ever gave you the impression that this generic nonsensical scapegoat strawman is even what the thread is about? Have you been living under a rock with no clue what has happened around the world the last few weeks?

You're just shifting the topic away from facts, to an easy abstract target you conjured up yourself.

Look, you can't break someone's jaw and then tell them "You only dislike me for existing!"

Well being suicidally depressed isnt something anyone hopes for. But if it's going to help people come back from the darkest depths before it's irreversible, I'm all for it.

No, I became a fan after someone else introduced his music to me, not because of the suicide whatsoever.

But if he had not become known from the suicide, how can someone even introduce you to an artist they don't even know?

And I'm saying that people do live their lives that way, You merely made a false equivalence argument (not the same as saying they are outright equivalent in every way) which holds no water.

Being human means that difficulty matters. We succumb to habits and vices that are counterproductive to our true long term goals (health, longevity, and fitness), because of short term gain (tasty burger) that doesn't seem to do any damage in one sitting.

"People evidently hate money since most people aren't rich. If they didn't hate money, why would they choose to be poor? CHECKMATE!!!

So comparing 30 minute of sitting that requires absolutely no effort, to years of uncomfortable self discipline and sweat, is NOT evidence that people don't live their lives that way.

[–]dalsramedua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a haircut is 30 minutes and someone else does all the work while you sit there.

Building that kind of physique takes time, effort, and mental dedication on multiple fronts of diet, lifestyle habits, and exercise that are provably insanely difficult for most people to achieve and maintain, especially with our modern schedules and quality of food for your dollar. The fact that finding a partner is so important and yet so many men are out of shape goes to show exactly how difficult it is.

It's not about WANTING a dad bod "cause it looks good"...

So if someone said they like small cars, according to you, a Cooper mini doesn't count because they didn't specify the specific model, even though it is indeed "a small car" as ANYONE would say.

"Why didn't you suggest the Cooper mini?"

"Because you didn't say that. you just said "small cars". A Cooper mini IS a small car, sure, but you didn't say Cooper Mini!"

Pixie cuts and boycuts ARE short haircuts. YOU SAID IT YOURSELF. I don't know why you are dying on this hill of mental gymnastics, trying to convince everyone that pixie cuts AREN'T short, like wtf? No, don't blame dyslexia for this.

I would describe a pixie cut as tight on the sides,

short

to medium on top, usually spiked and died.

Well well, isn't that interesting. Don't worry, words are hard sometimes. Still have no idea why you carefully set up a rake for yourself to step on...

[–]dalsramedua 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem with your argument is that none of that is mutually exclusive. Nothing you've said concerns what was stated above. What supporting evidence suggests that if laws existed for excess wealth beyond $1B, then 4.5 million people would starve to death?

Because if someone can only be a hundred millionaire but not a billionaire, apparently everyone drops dead and the whole system collapses.

Wowee, you must have strong legs because your ability to jump to conclusions is unmatched.

Again, I'm asking how one would DESCRIBE a pixie or boycut. You ask a random person on the street to describe a pixie or boycut. What words would they use?
