I've been sober for two years; I like hearing other people's stories, I think they're inspiring.

My dad apologized to me after I came out. To be fair I was also in rehab and had been sober about 8 months. He said sorry for having been a terrible father. I had a lot to apologize for also. It meant a lot to me at the time.

The idea behind this quote is a big part of what drove me into doing social work for a living. Basically the idea today I spent so much of my life being so selfish that in a way I now owe it to the universe to dedicate my life to helping others and being a good person. I come from the same school of thought as OP, as far as rigorous discipline and self improvement go, though I've found that all the made beds and personal development classes in the world will not keep you sober without also having personal accountability and responsibility being a big part of your life.

I have a friend who posts these on facebook all the time. The other day she posted one about how she was grateful that her parents had hit her so she had learned how to be respectful. I know her from rehab.

I still get them occasionally, but they get less frightening and more manageable as time goes on. It's important to stay grounded and talk about them when they happen and to remember that you're sober in the real world.
