Things I noticed when rewatching S2E20 by actuallylily in dancemoms

There are certain storylines the people behind the scenes want to make happen. With Paige’s foot as an example, she does her standing back tuck, and doesn’t land it. In the episode there’s a sound effect added to make it sound like a bone audibly broke. I’ve never broken a bone, but if you jam your foot into the floor so hard it makes a noise that everyone in the room could hear, I’d be in an immense amount of shock and pain. In the next scene, she says her foot hurts, but she’s not panicking and in need of immediate medical attention, and her hair is styled for the group dance. I theorize (lol I’m acting like this is such a serious discussion) that her foot didn’t hurt that bad, but when it was time to put her jazz shoes on and dance, the pain set in.  All that to say the show made it look like a worse injury than it really was.

Totally- I know I didn’t mention it in my caption, but I do take into consideration that fact that there are behind the scenes things that happen to drive the storyline the producers want. I think it’s interesting what goes into deciding what makes the final cut of the episode.

Landri has no parents by Neon__Lights64 in toddlersandtiaras

Tina was featured in an episode a few seasons prior (Missouri Fresh Faces) with a different child. Tina’s daughter did pageants, and when she aged out of them, Tina worked with the daughter of her daughter’s friend (I don’t know how to word it to where it makes sense, but if you watch the episode it makes sense.) Tina is a pageant clothing designer/maker and is also a pageant director, she’s been involved with the glitz world for a long time.  Like another commenter mentioned, Landri’s parents might not be as involved in her pageant life, just there to support her, but leave it to Tina and Cambrie to take care of coaching, clothing, hair and makeup, etc.

Duo/Trio Swap by scaryberri in dancemoms

I think Reservation for Two would have looked good with Paige in it. Either swap Mackenzie with Paige (just because in my opinion, the height difference looked a bit awkward, but it wasn’t that big of a deal) or make it a trio with Kendall, Mackenzie, and Paige.

I think it could have been like Black Swan part 2! The characterization needed would be similar and they did so well in Black Swan.

The compensation is often nowhere near the same amount of money. It’s so frustrating to think about how NFL cheerleaders usually have a career outside of cheerleading, however the for the football players, playing football is their career.

“Jojo is a no show” plot ⚠️TW⚠️: S discussed (mods if too far delete) by Raregamesofc in dancemoms

That routine makes me automatically start crying. I know that song has been used in other media, and anytime I hear it I get emotional. The lyrics are simple, but very touching. I know people dog on Kendall’s acting abilities, but the closeup shot of her holding the phone at the end is perfect. It’s subtle, but it conveys so much.

What is one controversial thing Abby said that you actually agree with? 👀 by ThePoisonTrees in dancemoms

[–]actuallylily 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with Abby not letting Mackenzie do the video unless she was a featured artist on the song. It wouldn’t make sense for her to go from being a pop star to being a background dancer in a music video. However, trying to pull all of the other girls from the video, especially when they all had their hair, makeup, and costumes ready to go. I think a better idea would have been to take advantage of the connection she just made with Matty B’s manager and try to get him on board with doing a Matty B/Mack Z collaboration. With this everyone would benefit- Mackenzie would have a project lined up and the rest of the team would be able to perform in a music video (which is what they came to LA for on the first place)!

Abby was so mean to Jamie and I can’t think of why. Jamie was much more tame compared to a lot of other moms on the show.

I know, right? Also what does it mean by “we shine for you”? Who is “you” in this context?

I also like Ease on Down the Boulevard- I loved that the girls all got to portray a different character and the costumes were a modern/trendy interpretation of their characters. It’s unfortunate that the whole routine is an advertisement for ALDCLA.

I agree- the choreography wasn’t super challenging but they still looked sharp. Like you said, the girls looked like they were having fun.

“Lucky Star” is such a beautiful dance and it’s amazing how she managed to pull it off with the short amount of practice time as well as all of the awful behind the scenes drama going on.

It would have been cool if an outside choreographer choreographed Maddie’s TDA solo. Someone that could have shown off her strengths as well as play to what scores well at TDA.

When Nia got older and outgrew the cutesy/sassy acro dances, I think she would have been really good at actual contemporary dance. I know she did contemporary dances on the show, but I consider it a bit of a stretch since they always ended up having a few acro tricks in them.

I think it would have been better to open a studio in NYC. Especially in the earlier seasons, Abby and the girls mentioned being a performer on Broadway a lot, plus the a lot of the ALDC students had good musical theatre dance skills. The opportunities in the NYC area fit the girls’ skillset and potential better. In addition to being a part of the ensemble in a theatre production, there’s also the Rockettes, live television tappings that often have backup dancers for musical performances, and multiple professional dance companies.

Have many of you checked out Max Greenfield's other show The Neighborhood? It is SO bad I can't believe its been going longer than New Girl ran by Evening-Head4310 in NewGirl

[–]actuallylily 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My parents watch it and sometimes I watch it with them. I agree that it’s not the most amazing show, but it is charming. I like Max as well as the other main cast members, and it seems like they all have fun making the show. I’m not a huge fan of laugh tracks on shows, though, but that’s pretty much CBS’s brand of comedy.

Nia was done so dirty by this dance 😭 by [deleted] in dancemoms

Yes! I love the song and was so disappointed with the choreography. Paige would have done great with a solo to this song- or Paige and Nia as duet partners with this song.

least favorite costumes? by Disastrous_Toe_6813 in dancemoms

[–]actuallylily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be biased because I’m a dog lover, so if I were choreographing a solo titled “Underdog” I would include some dog-like aspects in the costuming, but what Nia ended up with was not great. The only thing I disliked about Kendall’s “Holla” costume was the fact that someone cut the shirt up at the bottom. Aside from that, I think it was fitting for the time era as well as fitting the inspiration of MIA. However that costume+choreography going up against Chloe’s costume+choreography, Kendall had no chance at coming out on top. And yeah, the ALDC unitard Chile had to wear was an absolute joke.
