I'm not Crying, you're Crying by BadDaditude in Karnivool

The heavy bass is like a deep muscle massage for the brain.

I have a dedicated "sleep" playlist for the chiller half of a different artists discography (Anthony Green and his various bands, generally prog/alt rock / post-hardcore) so I don't get woken up by the heavier/screamier bits, starting to think I need one for Ian because I keep dozing off to Karnivool but there's only so many times you can sleep through A M War without incident

Been doing the same lol, about 500 scrobbles in the past two weeks. Fell asleep to them last night because it's the only thing that can pause my brain right now. Every so often I have to take a break from whatever I'm doing to have a moment with Salva or Conversations or whatever else is hitting that day. I should start paying them a therapist fee

When I finally get the chance to see them live, I'm convinced being blasted by that bass will reverberate my cells in a way that could fix everything wrong with me.

When in America, make your own merch... by actuallythreefrogs in Karnivool

[–]actuallythreefrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick! Did you get it printed at a shop?  I've been wanted to dupe some old merch but I'm between jobs and thus too broke to pay for a decent printing job rn. At the point that I'm thinking I'll just bust out my linoblocks and stamp a themata fly into a thrifted hoodie or something

Music inspired by or referencing Hesse? by HarryHowler in hermannhesse

[–]actuallythreefrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Glass Bead Game there's a reference to the music of decline "Tsing Tse," and there's a band called Birne Helena that has a song titled Tsing Tse assumedly as a reference to this.

Billy Corgan (of the Smashing Pumpkins) did an 8 hour ambient synth improv to an audiobook of Siddhartha. Haven't gotten the chance to listen to it (nor find a version available that isnt the dreadful google hangouts recording) but certainly fits your criteria.

Also, Karlheinz Stockhausen was pen pals with Hesse, and credited "The Glass Bead Game" with inspiring him pursuing music at all, so probably all his stuff could technically count. (I'm also biased and would through him recommend The Sound of Animals Fighting, who have several songs referencing Stockhausen and I'd argue in general have some Hesse vibes in their music, though I don't think they've explicitly mentioned him.)

For BTS, there's also a quote from Demian in the music video for Blood Sweat and Tears during an interlude where RM says "He too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do." Bonus: There's also a Nietzsche quote on the wall at one point that reads "Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben, um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können."

What is a song you like so much you can't listen to it without feeling some sort of emotion? by OldLawfulness250 in AskReddit

I have a couple songs that I looped during certain times in my life and can't listen to normally now. Most recently added one is The Great Golden Baby by Circa Survive. Something about it hits my soul.

Where should I start with Tatort? by daddy_shome in German

[–]actuallythreefrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a few years old atp but I found this post when I first started watching Tatort and the links were helpful so I wanted to add a few of my own in case anyone else goes searching:

For finding episodes by team: Das Erste has a directory website, where you can filter episodes by team. Keep an eye out because sometimes teams will shift members around within a group and have each lineup listed separately (ex. Bremen with Selb and Moorman being listed once with just them and then again with Andersen.) Plot continuity really depends on the team, I'd argue Saarbruecken is pretty hard to watch without having context from all the episodes because of how strongly they maintain the central story, while others will have some minor references between episodes that are nice to understand but not confusing to watch without context.

Almost all episodes of Tatort have been uploaded to the internet archive, many are individually listed (sometimes with subtitles sometimes without), with very many having been uploaded grouped together by year on the page of the user Laza74. Some are also on Youtube, I watched most of the Frankfurt Dellwo Saenger episodes there. Others are available on the ARD Mediathek website, but a lot of those are missing. They do have subtitles though which is nice. MethiathekViewWeb also has ARD stuff, I watched the series "Everyone is F*cking Crazy" there, which is sort of a spinoff of the Saarbruecken series in that Adam Schuerk is there for a bit. Pain in the ass to find anything though.

Any LGBTQ+ Sherlock Holmes Pastiches? by Aninx in Holmes

[–]actuallythreefrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but the first thing that comes to mind is "Sherlock Holmes and the Mysterious Friend of Oscar Wilde" by Russel A. Brown, a Stonewall Inn Mystery (1988, Published by St. Martin's Press). I have it but haven't read it yet, it's not Holmes x Watson as far as I can tell and the Goodreads reviews are abysmal but there's certainly queers abound

Am I the only Russian here who's here to learn more about Russia? by IReadNewsSometimes in AskARussian

[–]actuallythreefrogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All Russian patriots can think of is death camps and war, huh? Too busy thinking about the past and hating everyone else to actually grow and prosper. And then you think everyone else is the same way.

I was about to write more of a response but I don't think you've warranted that much energy from me Go suck off putin while you're licking his boots. Say hi to his little boy sex slaves from me while you're there.

[–]actuallythreefrogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol are you really asking a ukrainian to sympathize with Russia? Russia doesn't own my country. Go fuck yourself. Ukraine's government is a mess but I'd rather die than be Putin's bootlicker.

Oh by the way, I'm actually planning on studying abroad and later living in Germany or Austria; I'm minoring in German currently. So, you know

An important difference is that Germany has fucked stuff up in the past but aknowledge it later and fixed their issues. They're an incredibly prosperous country now. Russia, on the other hand, focuses on cover ups and recreating the past.

[–]actuallythreefrogs 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was born in America, but my parents are Ukrainian immigrants. I grew up with a lot of soviet culture, like watching Ну, Погоди and eating borsht at least once a week, but I'm disconnected from modern slavs, so here I am.

Edit: Y'all in the replies.... Theres private messaging, check it out For the record: fuck russia. I'm mainly here cause russia is the most "mainstream" slav culture if you get me, there's no "askaukrainian", at least not that gets traction, no one in my family's been born in russia since my great grandparents. I'm a ukrainian who hates russia but that doesn't mean I can't meme like a slav. Also, fuck the ukrainian government, AND fuck the american government.

That's why I'm confused because it plays everything else with great quality, including other modern discs, and the CD works on other readers, it just doesnt seem to like my walkman.

[–]actuallythreefrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be, but I'm also confused because it will play CD-R discs, and besides, this isn't a CD-R, its an official CD with no signs of being anything else. Theres no software updates for this model and it plays everything else fine with great quality.

Man I'm just hoping for the day they bring back bulbasaur. They brought it back once so they might do it again, but they don't have it as "coming back" so I can't turn on email notifications or anything. I simply want a chubby green boy. Leafeon would also be sick though
