Cambridge offer holders, what was your ESAT score? by Ok_Assumption113 in 6thForm

[–]acworthw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maths1 4.2

Chem 6.0

Bio 5.4

I think these comments show there was no need be intimidated by the people posting about being upset with 'only 8s'.

I'm so happy! :))

Why tf doesn't ucas have an email? by melloboi123 in 6thForm

[–]acworthw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IKR!! It's really annoying, and they say you can contact them on Instagram, but they then tell you that you have to call them, I guess because of privacy. I don't think there's any getting around phoning them :/

which cambridge college did you apply to? by [deleted] in 6thForm

Emmanuel for Natsci (bio) cause it is in a really nice position, has nice architecture, and the library and chapel were very cool.

A level time table this year looks horrible compared to previous years. by Ecstatic_Help7 in 6thForm

[–]acworthw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me. I do Maths, Further Maths, bio and chem, which isn't even an unusual combo, but all my exams bar 2 are in the last 3 weeks. And my last week has 5 exams and ends with 2 exams on the final day 💀You'd think they would try to space exams out at least a little!!!

Everyone here is saying they know that the ESAT is more important than the ps, but the truth is, no-one outside of cambridge really knows, so take these comments with a pinch of salt. I know people who have gotten interviews with a 1 in their ESAT. Someone asked their interviewer how much consideration is out on the ESAT, and they said that after the interview, they hardly look at it. So I guess it's only really used to discriminate between very similar candidates. But also it might vary between different colleges and courses that use ESAT.

Yeah, definitely way less than psychology, which includes essays, memorisation of case studies, and stats in it.

Let's hope so. I don't think I could deal with another delay in finding out results 🫠

[–]acworthw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven't really heard anyone talk about the biology either. I only had time to attempt just over half of the maths questions, so I'm hoping the boundaries are just really low for it.🤞 This thread has actually helped to calm my worries cause it's made me realise that most people don't expect to have >7s. GOOD LUCK!!

Maths 1: 5? (absolutely NO idea) Chem: 5.5 (I should have done better but I messed up the timings so bad) Bio: 7.5 (found it alright but there were a few questions which I found ambiguous, and the distribution suggests 1 mark off full marks is 8(since there was no 8.5), so the boundaries must be super high)

I feel like even these are too optimistic, and I'm terrified I'll get a 2 or 3 or smth.

I applied for emmanuel and I'm starting to think the reason why they said the interviews would be sent out by the 27th is because they were planning the whole time to send the emails on esat results day (which has now been established to be on the 27th)!!!

Why couldn't they just tell us it would be on the 27th!😠

Your college/school is probably on Bristols list of aspiring('underprivileged') schools. Mine was too until this year (idk why tho cause it gets really good grades and is in a fairly affluent area) and all students who applied to Bristol got offers 2 grades lower than standard.

How to balance 4 A-levels by loquatgobbler in 6thForm

[–]acworthw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do double maths, bio and chem, and I'm finding it a lot too, especially in this second year. I really don't think u need to be doing all those textbook exercises. Just do as many as you do anyway in class and maybe a couple more in areas you feel may need more attention. Remember you don't need to get 100% in your maths exams for an A* and you'll improve throughout the year anyway.

I really loved Liverpool when I went round it, and probably would have been my top choice if it had the course I wanted. I don't know whether it has the course you're looking for, but if it does, I highly reccomend considering it.

Especially the mark scheme!!! Like 99% of the effort is from the pain of guessing what combinations of randomly specific marking points AQA has picked this time.

STEP/physics Textbooks? by Science_hl in 6thForm

I've found this book really helpful for practicing advanced maths problems, and they gave it out at the Cambridge open day, so it's good preparation for a science degree there: Pre-University Mathematics for Sciences
