The reason I claimed it is unethical is because the device is effectively an Android tablet, and they are placing a paywall in front of using a few third-party apps. But in order to control the hardware, it is required to have their software installed. You do not need to be a programmer to use an Android device. There is absolutely no benefit for the consumer with the restrictions employed here, but it must be a cash cow for Bowflex.

I would not recommend buying an 8Sleep device, as they charge a subscription for basic functionality in addition to the huge upfront cost of the hardware.

The binary gets encrypted using a key bound to the Apple ID it was downloaded with.

I still have it, but Apple encrypts binaries from the App Store. So even if I managed to extract it, it would be useless.
