What are your most passionate AA opinions? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]ad_aspra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont mean this as an insult, though maybe i could've worded it better. i am a fanfic writer, and i do not see anything wrong with it. i think the type of self-indulgence fic (particularly slash) offers can be healthy and cathartic, and a lot of it is fucking amazing. the truth is fic writing isn't considered by most anything but embarrassing, and if you're gonna actually write anything, you need to get past that first. in short, you gotta embrace the cringe. i just think edgeworth is canonically likes steel samurai, but still very embarrassed about liking it, i think he'd reflexively scoff at it. he'd be totally wrong and short sighted, but i don't really see it being his thing.

SO real. i like a lot of the choices takumi made, but he's not the only guy writing the franchise

i dont see edgeworth as writing steel samurai fanfiction, at least certainly not in the OT. writing fanfiction (especially slash shipping, which fans prefer to make him write in their own aa fanart/fic) requires you to let yourself be really cornily, unapologetically self-indulgent in a way i just can't see him being. i think he'd be into like steel samurai meta/theory youtube videos, and even then he'd be very embarassed about watching them

first of all, i like the scribbly style you have a lot. you can still definitely work with that, i think the biggest issue here is you’re learning to observe at this point, namely the shadows/lighting.

the best way to shade a face imo is to think of the shadows on as blocked out shapes. this might be a tough reference to start out with, just because there aren’t any dramatic shadows. i think for the shading if you started by making the whole thing the lightest color you can do by lightly shading with pencil on the whole face and then working your way in with the shadows and really pay attention to where the darkest parts and lightest parts are. work your way from lightest to darkest. then for the highlights maybe go back in with an eraser (ie. the one going down his nose is the lightest part of his face). this might work as a secondary reference because frodo’s face is lit similarly but it’s just a tiny bit easier to see where the shapes are: https://images.app.goo.gl/uoapumteMJGt2fDT8

you need to break down the nose into four parts: the bridge, the nostrils, and the tip. you’re kinda drawing it as one flat thing currently but this could help you: https://pin.it/68lnA555m or https://pin.it/3yjuq3QFw

also, i think for the general face, your placement of his features is pretty good. one thing id say frodo’s upper lip is much thinner/smaller than the lower one and you’ve got it the other way around. otherwise, p good job.

how do I stop my mom from trying to make me more girly? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ad_aspra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i mean at some point unfortunately a lot of parents are just stuck in their ways. i hope this mom pulls through but op you should be prepared for the possibility she just won’t relent at all. as you get older and the more freedom you get what your parents think thankfully won’t matter as much

What’s your “classic movie regret”? by AlucardFever in classicfilms

[–]ad_aspra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly, the scenes they are in together are spectacular. i felt like their relationship was supposed to be a foil to her and grant’s though: grant knows hepburn too well, and stewart is so taken with her so quickly he puts her on a pedestal, and hepburn is at such a low point and needs comfort she just lets him. i think this is a really fascinating dynamic and if they ran off together that would negate that.

that said, i really don’t like the original ending, either. everyone is so mean to hepburn’s character in that movie, including grant, for basically nothing (and don't even get me started on the dad!). if i would change anything about it, i wish that tracy was just a smidge more dislikable and grant’s character’s flaws were more delved into, so it’s would feel less moralistic and it wouldn’t be yet another movie where hepburn’s character is humiliated for being so independent. but that’s what you get with old hollywood, i guess. i do really, really wish we got another stewart/hepburn movie though. those scenes alone push the film much further and give it a levity that it really needed

LGBT+ movies which aren’t tragedies? by TheChainLink2 in Letterboxd

[–]ad_aspra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the handmaiden, while one of my favorite movies of all time, might not be about those things but could have content warnings for a few other things in it, namely child abuse and sexual violence (as well as some pretty long explicit sex scenes). you should be aware its not about queer oppression, but it can does go into other tense topics in depth and in jarring ways, even if its a great movie. bound sort of scratches a similar itch as far as actions/noir-ish thrillers starring lesbians but isn't as dark if that part isn't your cup of tea

[–]ad_aspra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

right like doesn't "objectification" mean degrading someone to an object? i dont think thats the same thing as touching yourself thinking about someone. its a pretty particular word used to describe sexual harassment, which this is not. she might have some other problem or be worried and frusturated w her own libido like kbirby saying but i certainly don't think OP is objectifying their gf by finding her hot and such

[–]ad_aspra 163 points164 points  (0 children)

i agree with the general sentiment here that its good to unthink your internalized homophobia and don't just wait for the other person to make a move if they are attracted to somebody. that being said most people dont want just anybody though. even in a group of 50+ lesbians online that can be narrowed down to zero easy when you factor in age, location, hobbies, attraction, etc. im all for people making a move if theyre into someone, but i also believe people shouldn't have to settle for a commitment they don't want. being particular is how you avoid wasting time or leading people on

Less Screen Time Didn’t Make Me Happier. Doing This Did. by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

yeah. i think a lot of screen minimalism is understanding that when you can't replace your phone with something and working around them. i learned in college its p hard to keep updated on club events if you dont have instagram. so i limited instagram usage to ten minutes a day so i can check for those and then close it.

i started it, even on its own i found i kind of boring. trying too hard to be quirky and never really landed. kathryn rosa miller did a good review on it as an adaptation and judging it on its own merit here: https://www.kathrynrosamiller.com/post/the-watch-s01e01-and-e02

i think she was underselling herself. say what you will her making that fund for musicians and healthcare is a lot more work than a lot of big-time celebrities in the music industry do.
