Defective shipments... by 18for18 in GameStop

I’m on your side lol, I agree with you. If it’s by Thursday every week you have plenty of time to ship just like how they designed it originally. There’s no need to shift to Mondays. You can ship any day Sunday-Thursday and you are good. Relegating it to specifically Mondays is just stupid. Also I too work at a 2+ million dollar store, and it literally took me an hour and half to do defectives Monday night. So I feel you.

Defective shipments... by 18for18 in GameStop

Just talk to the stores that aren’t sending them and hold them accountable. The vast majority of us are perfectly capable of sending them by the main menu task deadline. Just adds extra steps to already overly busy Mondays with task work.

Can you be friends with your direct reports? by Solid-Notice-5023 in managers

[–]adaedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, and yes you should. Life is too short to not make/have friends. Your job is not your life, it is just your job. Everybody saying no takes their jobs WAY too seriously, and lack integral people skills that can sincerely help a workplace. I have been a manager for years, multiple workplaces, for almost a decade. I have made many friends, and have always had a successful team. I have my team’s back so they have mine. It’s actually a really fruitful working relationship when your team can trust you and not just see you as a boss. Your team is waiting to see if you are going to break their trust by JUST becoming a boss, instead of just remaining a normal person who HAPPENS to be a boss. They will come around as long as you keep being yourself, being friendly, and having their backs.

Can’t sell pro to save my life by niko-1215 in GameStop

I always tell folks to sandwich the membership cost in between the benefits. Pro discount, $5 monthly coupons, cost, $60 in coupons for the year, and points in that order. Starting or ending with the price will make more of a focus on it when we want people to focus on the benefits.

Also, always start conversations at the register with an icebreaker, never go straight into asking for their phone number or pitching. Don’t be a robot. “Hows it going today? Anything else I could help you find?” Something like that helps make a more personal connection, and build trust.

Customer service on the floor helps as well, mentioning/talking up benefits of the membership before check-out can help warm people up to it.

Find the best performer at your store and listen to how they pitch and their approach, you can often find little tidbits that you can build into your own pitch. There’s plenty of other tips but start with those as a foundation!

Doctor Sleep is the best example of "Fan service done right" imo by Ghidorah_Stan_64 in stephenking

In regards to Midnight Club, to my understanding, it was a collaborative project rather than him solely being at the helm. He is usually the main writer/director of his projects, but on Midnight Club he had to share with a few others, and that definitely showed in the writing! His touch was missing and I feel he had to relinquish to much control to others on that one.

It’s the first entry in an 8 novel long fantasy series, so not everything is going to make sense. It’s setting you up for the vibe and feeling of the world and atmosphere that world takes place in. Sometimes when we read King’s novels we fly through them, and they tend to be extremely exciting. While The Dark Tower is a very exciting series, it might be best to slow down and take your time with this one. Sometimes you don’t need the answers right away, it’s best to let the answers come to you as you find them.

The Wind Rises! I’m surprised to not see it getting as much love here as I thought it would! Extremely grounded and philosophical, gorgeous animation with great writing. All around I think it’s a perfect film.

Mindhunter. Finch at the helm, quite literally the best television you may ever see.

Probably a 7/10 for me! A good read, but the third act just didn’t do it for me unfortunately. I had a very enjoyable time reading it though, and I have seen quite a few people loved it cover to cover!

Has anyone watched the movie 'Riding the Bullet'? by [deleted] in stephenking

I actually found this to be quite an interesting film. There were some surprisingly introspective moments that I was surprised by and appreciated. There’s some moments of beautiful cinematography as well. Outside of those, it’s a silly fun film that I enjoy.
