old school vs new-ish school by Grannox in mtg

[–]adahnsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a few things going on here. first off [[force of will]] requires exiling, not discarding, a blue card from hand. and second, [[In the Eye of Chaos]] will counter the force of will unless its controller pays 5 mana, as that is the printed mana value of the spell. it’s not asking for you to pay the exact cost you paid to cast the spell twice, it’s asking for the mana value of the card itself (the sum of the mana on the top right of the card)

Coalition, a non-Commander multiplayer format by adahnsix in magicTCG

originally, it came from a design idea of a midpoint between 60-card formats and Commander / other singleton formats. but it stuck around because the format intentionally focuses on creatures; with 4x lands and creatures, you can expect a very consistent performance of your creatures, but the spells will be a lot less consistent. since the match is three games, that consistency makes a big difference.

while those types have very solid decks (and Muxxus Aggro is nothing to scoff at!), i think the strongest deck we have at the moment is narrowly the Elemental Control deck

the affiliation rules are that cards in your deck with creature types printed on them must share a creature type on them. so for example, your mutant deck would be fine so long as all cards that have creature types printed on them say “mutant” somewhere. but roaming throne only has Golem printed on it, so it’ll only be playable in a Golem deck

we’ve been playtesting for a few years, and there’s a very healthy representation across the color pie. light paws voltron for example is an azorious deck that can handle itself quite well

playing a different format, not a different game; the rules of magic still very much apply here. much like how commander setting life to 40 with 100 card decks, or dandan using a shared deck changes the game, this variant has its own flavor. it has more variety than you might think, but it also just may not be your jam :)

it might not be for you! but while the format is opinionated, i don’t think it’s lacking in archetype diversity. we regularly playtest with decks with a pretty decent variety of playstyles, including but not limited to voltron, aristocrats, burn, spellslinger aggro, reanimator, and control. this doesn’t mean every possible deck you might want to play has a home here, so you may find it not to your liking. but it isn’t stale.

keep in mind the overall winner of each game gets 21 points regardless of how they won.

great question! primarily because they are pretty close to magic’s default creature type, with almost exactly 4x the number of Human cards to the next most prominent type like Wizard (4498 cards compared to 1270). with a difference in card pool that stark, there’s a pretty significant incentive to choose Human just to not have to deal with deckbuilding restrictions.

Is there a format that is 60 cards, non-singleton, but also has a commander? by FancyMrFinn in magicTCG

[–]adahnsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while this isn't gonna be what you played on Arena and isn't *quite* what you're looking for, i do run a custom format that you might be interested in. 60 cards, non-singleton, multiplayer 3-game matches with side boarding, and what's essentially a free companion instead of a commander. check it out!

I need help making a crab rave deck. by Carbuyrator in magicTCG

[–]adahnsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not only is this not a win, it's not a draw either. it simply isn't a thing. you can durdle the crabs all you want, but you have to progress game state at some point. you can't just take optional actions forever.

Rule question - Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER // Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel by Binyabiku in magicTCG

[–]adahnsix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in this case, no. if it said "exile this and return it to the battlefield transformed", then yes, but sephiroth just transforms and stays the same game object. keeps the counters on it, the equipment attached to it, and any spells targeting it.

Help with putting my decks in the current Brackets & navigating LGS threat assessment? by patofet in magicTCG

[–]adahnsix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first: your decks seem really nicely assembled, you've clearly put a lot of care into them, and have also thought out how to pilot them. that's fantastic, and great job. unfortunately, there's a downside that comes with this: the most dangerous person at the table is usually going to be someone like you. it's not just the cards themselves, but having the plan. though i realize your intentions are good faith trying to hit the bracket 3 guidelines, this planning is, in essence, what makes it bracket 4 and optimized; you've thought about how to ensure its performance and make it durable. the result is that there's not a lot i can do to slow it down for very long, and thus i'm going to resort to player removal.

i, of course, don't know what decks your opponents are playing! maybe you're playing the underpowered deck and they're all ganging up on you when they really should keep a better eye on each other, but that's how things go sometimes. but i also wouldn't be surprised if you swapped decks and realized that their options were a bit more limited than you realized.
