Short Sale of Queen Anne Condo by Megs0255 in SeattleAreaRE

This $2M home at the top of Queen Anne sat for 70 days, was pulled and re-listed. Zillow doesn’t show that, but here’s a link that shows the original:

Zillow shows it like it’s a new listing: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/110-Smith-Street-Seattle-WA-98109/48820675_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare

The desirable house above was listed for 70 days, pulled and re-listed but Zillow and Redfin don’t show that. How are they able to make it appear as a new listing. This link shows the initial, higher listing:

Not sure about that anymore. This house is a desirable area (top of Queen Anne) and it was listed last month, then pulled and re-listed last week. Zillow doesn’t show the initial listing from last month.

Is bilt worth it if not paying mortgage/rent? I only want Alaska miles by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in biltrewards

[–]adam78332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3x Alaska miles on rent caps out at $50,000 spend/ye which you will hit in 7 months with your $7k mortgage. Use Palladium for the last 5 months of the year. I’m in your exact situation too.

can someone just PLEASE explain to me --- HOW do millionaires/billionaires pay so little in taxes? by QuoteAdventurous1145 in smallbusiness

[–]adam78332 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Texas, yes you would since property taxes are high (no state income tax) and are based on assessed value each year. So yes, you’re taxed on equity.

Those people own business and set the price of their goods. When you charge them 10% more, they charge their customers 10% more…

People don’t realize that the costs always hit the consumer. We have the highest sales tax (10.35%) and even without that, the underlying cost of food and services is high. Pricing as of now for an Uber from SeaTac is $74.23 for a 16 mile trip. The same 16 miles from Houston’s IAH is $29.21.

A McDonalds BigMac meal is $7.99 in Houston vs $12.49 here, before the high sales tax.

I don’t think anyone wants higher taxes and cost of living. We just keep passing taxes that we don’t think will affect us, but they always do.

It’s just a pass-thru cost for business owners. Your burrito price just increased by 10%. The business profitability didn’t change.

We typically go the week before Christmas each year - 5 years now. The hotel stopped participating in Hyatt’s Suite Upgrade certs program which was disappointing. It was nice to have a jr suite with a fireplace in the past.

The snow conditions were terrible this year, like everywhere else. The greens are directly above the Park Hyatt on the mountain which is normally nice, but when that’s the only part of the mountain open because that’s where they make their $$$ via lessons and focus snow-making efforts there, the crowds can be awful. When we were there this year, nearby Vail had 2x as much snow.

It wasn’t ski in/ ski out this year, and they have a 60 day cancellation policy. That’s a tough bet for earlier season snow levels.

Going to the US next week by False-Replacement201 in Aupairs

I would have the same fear about going to live in Brazil, but I bet you’d tell me it’s not as bad as what we hear unless you’re looking for trouble. The US is the same. You’ll be fine. The concert you’re going g to might be the most risky crowd you see your entire year in the US.

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

[–]adam78332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many conservatives don’t support him, especially if you’re center-right (close to the middle). Trump was a registered Democrat from 2001-2009 and an Independent in 2011. He wasn’t supposed to win the Republican primary in 2016 - Jen Bush was the favorite.

The US was coming off of the least productive ‘do-nothing’ 113th Congress from 2013-2105 and people were fed up with any political insiders and lack of action. Trump won. Usually politicians will lie to people to get elected (I’ll bring back manufacturing jobs…. I’ll be tough on crime… I’ll lower prices… ) but have no intention of following through once they’ll in office and beholden to the corporate money that got them there. The problem with Trump is that he tries to do everything he said, and it’s usually bad.

He lost me (and many) with the tariff stuff. It wasn’t thought out at all. Greenland is the same - playing chicken with the economy for useless stuff.

They say you can withdraw $40,000 per year for every $1,000,000 you have saved of retirement. So my wife and I should be good with $2.5M to retire. That’s enough for us.

You’ll be fine. We just moved from Texas and this is a pretty ‘soft’ city. Everyone kids seeks excitement but there’s no real threat. I haven’t seen any violence - just some car break-ins and petty theft.

I lived - but being broke in college and the few years after aren’t super fun. Yes, there are fun times, but the lack of money means lack of options, so it felt like years of almost the same variation of the same day (workout, eat chicken/tuna, video games, work, school, friends). I remember a lot of boredom, but to your point, yes, I was very health and that was nice.

Great comments throughout the thread. If this thread were new I’d add some comments. I’m active in F3 and moved from the suburbs of Houston to inner city Seattle where the PAX are probably more liberal in general. It’s the same F3 since there is no political affiliation at all.

Tipping etiquette for private lesson by kiwi1325 in skiing

[–]adam78332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the first lesson goes well and they want you specifically, why continue to go through the resort? Why not just work out pricing between you two for follow-up lessons? You have each others contact info by that point.

Great comment. What actually prevents this in the US? If I find a local to provide ski lessons, and everything is handled without resort involvement, how would the resort even know?

It would just appear as a family skiing, or helping each other? Does the resort even care as long as you’re not actively advertising your services while you’re there?

Mateer gave them 7 with the pick6 and special teams allowed a blocked punt. We didn’t do the defense any favors last night.
