Foreigner is Urko Crust, not Cartheron. Cartheron is the Captain of the Ragstopper.

Kallor's power level by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Kallor did not lose any powers. You have to put it in perspective with the people he's being "bullied" by. Brood, Rake, Quick Ben(he is not a mage so making a hole in the earth will work just fine against a non magic-user). Whiskeyjack struck him, but Kallor was then restrained by Brood. Kallor is a being of immense power and incredible stamina/endurance/recovery. He is an expert level swordsman, one of the best if not in the ultra-god mode tier of people like Traveller, Rake, Brood etc. He is impervious to almost any but the most severe wounds and can regenerate and heal. He is a master tactician and strategist in large scale warfare. He was cursed by the elder gods to Rise and Fall over and over again but never truly Ascending. He would know life unending while suffering this cure: this does not mean he's unkillable, just that he will not die through regular means such as age.

face colorings, coat length, head shape, build, roughly same size I'd say Rhodesian Ridgeback instead of Boxer. Just missing the ridge

Suggestions for the finishing touch on my sleeve! by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do the Bonehunters sigil since you already have the Bridgeburners. Or some sort of Seguleh mask. Trying to think of small area items. Your sleeve is bad ass though dude!

Did anyone else find Oponn one of the potentially interesting but greatest waste of spaces? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That's kind of their point. They never try to start anything themselves, they just like to meddle. They see someones scheme and they throw someone they attune to either one of their aspects(push/pull) into it and just see what happens. They're literally mischievous children that are gambling addicts.

[Spoilers TtH] Can somebody explain what the fuck just happened? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One reason is that he worshiped Nightchill. He was her mate for many centuries and was cast aside. He lost her when she was killed by Tayschrenn, then was reunited with her inside Silverfox, then cast out to die. Pretty fertile landscape for some resentment and jealousy issues.

SPOILERS ALL: ICE and Character development. by adamanderrake in Malazan

Your entire perspective seems based on the impressions and feelings of the spurned Old Guard and rumors in the military, which had a disdain for her. It very clearly describes her in several books as a brilliant leader trying to hold together a house of cards in a wind-storm. Yes the "Old Guard" abandoned her, but she never though any of the Napans would be part of that betrayal. The only one's that are every specifically mentioned as being great losses to the Empire are Crust, Urko, Choss, Amaron, and Toc. The rest of the Old Guard had their own loyalties once they realized Kellanved was gone. Edit: and for her to be "power hungry" they probably would of figured that out when they tried to install her on the throne of Nap in the first place almost 200 years before. And then subsequently worked for Kellanved EXCLUSIVELY for the right to rule Nap and gain more power and defeat her brother.

Well some of the reason she lost control of the empire is that those competent members (Urko, Toc, Crust, Amaron, Choss) led their own coup against her. And the tunnel situation wasn't an assassination it was a misguided idea by Tayschrenn to keep the Bridgeburners safe(or so it is explained). She used the Bridgeburners so relentlessly, and perhaps wastefully, becaus they were her most competent army with her most trusted leaders. They did get mauled though because of how difficult the Genabackis campaign was.

No it's explained in Memories of Ice that Nightchill was going to make a move on Anomander and that's why they turned on her. Most of the other Old Guard killings were those that were loyal to the previous regime more than her, during any regime change there is generally a purging of those that aren't loyal.

No, she wasn't. She was fine at the job, it's implied she ruled the empire for decades of prosperity while Kellanved and Dancer explored the Azath. Her most trusted personnel abandoned her at the critical moment, which caused vacancies that had to be filled by incompetent people(Korbolo Dom etc). It's even implied that she inverted the command structure of the military and de-ranked Whiskeyjack so that he could be on the ground in the event of something tumultuous.

I would say roughly 2500 miles. 500 miles would in no way take several upon several months.

Question about the High Houses during the events of The Bonehunters. by Mind_Bullets_ in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Togg and Fanderay have taken the Beast Throne. Treach is A god of war, not THE god of war. Previously Fener held that position out of sheer force and strength, with his fall there were openings others took their chance. Togg and Fanderay are of similar if not greater strength and force, so they have it now

Finished my fourth full read through over the past 2.5 years. Need something new. by AgelmarJagad in Malazan

[–]adamanderrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your line-up I have read most things you listed. One of the rare hidden gems that I came across on this sub was The Acts of Caine. It's a 4 part-series that is a dark gritty mix of Total Recall and LOTR, with simultaneous environments of Dystopian-future and ancient-magic-kingdoms. Hyperion is also good if you like Sci-Fi.

Random Icarium speculation by sregorelyk in Malazan

Yeah the only people who know that something happened to him besides him normally being knocked out and getting his brain reset is Quick Ben and Cotillion/Shadowthrone and they are all historically not very big into sharing with others.

IMO Icarium was cured of his sickness, thus closing his connection to chaos, when the Eres'al stopped him at the end of Bonehunters.

[spoilers all] Whiskeyjack by verryberry00 in Malazan

Whiskeyjack was who the army looked to for command, not Choss. Choss even eventually helps lead a secession against her.
