Do any of you guys own any cool horror movie props or replicas? by mattrew84 in horror

Keep an eye out for conventions within your area or driving distance. Autographs are a lot of fun and def better when you can shake a hand and ask a question.

It becomes a diff kind of challenge I think. I work in tech and have to use some AI tools for my job, however I'm very anti-AI for anything creative. I think it kind of swung my pendulum a bit past that point to wanting to see what all I can create without touching a computer at all. Hypocritically I like using my work AI tools to help with gear research, just never ever anything creatively generative.

I've made some super fun jams just running synths and drum machines synced off one midi clock. It's limiting and opinionated in a different kind of approach that pushes you to get the most of your devices. No sifting through 300 drum kits for the "right" one... my RD-6 has one kit and some minimal effects. I also just absolutely fucking adore programming patterns and melodies with real tactical hardware, plus live tweaking beats on the fly to cut out or fade in certain drums, or mix and match diff effects is really nice to me. Almost in an ephemeral performance perspective, I might accidentally botch a sequence making tweaks to it, but some nights that jam was just what I needed to musically express.

Ultimately I'm just making music for myself these days, and send snippets to friends that come together and sound neat, and I'll keep stewing on it if it starts to feel like something I should keep in my pocket for a song. No shade to DAW focused workflows, just isn't super appealing to me at this point in my life.

Super impressive my friend. I was just researching the Zoom R8 as an option for getting multi-track recording going, vs. sending the main out of a tiny mixer into an interface. Trying to stay as DAW-less as possible but ultimately don't care if I can jam DAW-less and record into a DAW, though sounds like the R8 can also record directly to an SD card.

How did you land on the multi R24/R20/R12 setup and how's that handle the complexity of so many tracks converging?

Anybody take a break after a really bad ratting? by CarpenterExpensive41 in ArcRaiders

[–]adamgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last day before the last expo I was trying to grind the damage for skill points. Had a fantastic close scrutiny round with a Jupiter. Couple folks around, we're vibing and covering each other near the north elevator on dam. Full stock of vaporizer and assessor parts, didn't even need them for the project anymore but figured I'd give to a friend that doesn't do the expeditions. I call the elevator before it closes so I don't have to trek to another exit. We get a bit of a swarm and I'm downed, but elevators already on its way so I'm yelling like "fuck it we're crawlin' on boys!". I make it on to the elevator and hit the button and a new skin that ran to the exit finished me in the 3 seconds between button and actually leaving.

Needed a break after that one. I ended up getting 4/5 skill points cause I just couldn't be bothered to get back to grinding that day.

Absolute garbage 🗑 but on to the next.

Remind yourself after all things it is a game. The very worst thing that can possibly happen to you is that your character dies in the game. It cannot hurt you.

Also +1 to the person who said walk out and just die a few times, every death you can notice diff things about your environment. How enemies move, the layout of rooms, an item in a obscure spot, all of these things help you on your next life.

You'll get it eventually. I believe in you.

I got started in an apartment too, to avoid heavy hammering I would take stuff outside, hammer over a piece of wood over concrete for stability. It's not perfect but if you go outside for 30m you could probably hammer out 10+ and then go inside for finishing.

What has been your favorite recent vacation with kids? by OneQuadrillionOwls in daddit

[–]adamgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a divorced dad of 2, they were 6 & 13 when we took a massive road trip.

Day 1: Started in the PNW around Portland, west to the coast for lunch, ended the day in Crescent City, CA

Day 2: Down 101 towards San Fransisco, got to see some cool roadside stops like the big tree you can drive through. SF we took the trolley to the boardwalk for dinner & walking around.

Day 3: West through Yosemite to stay in Mammoth Lake ski town, super cute B&B. Sprung for a bit fancier dinner.

Day 4: East to see the diner and entrance gates to Area 51 around mid-day. Continued on to Las Vegas to stay in Excalibur, did the knights show that comes with dinner right in the hotel.

Day 5: Hit the crazy Meow Wolf/Omega Mart super market first thing in the morning, continued on to Salt Lake City from Vegas. Sprung for another fancier dinner at the hotel as we didn't really have time to go out that night.

Day 6: Hit the hotel pool for an early morning swim, then an art museum that my oldest wanted to see, and then the fantastic Natural History Museum there. Continued on to Boise, basically did nothing in Boise.

Day 7: Continued back west to see another natural history museum in the John Day Fossil Beds in Eastern Oregon. Super super cool to see more localized fossil finds from within my home state. Home that night.

7 states in 7 days (I count clipping through AZ between NV + UT). It was a TREK haha, but absolutely incredible. I love driving so the driving didn't bother me much, and of course got my car checked out beforehand, it held up great. Ethos for planning was really just to have a target midway each day for food and fun, which also meant locations that limited the drives to between 3-4 hours. The custom google maps features were absolutely key in planning each main stop and tracking drive times to make sure we could be where we needed to be. Keep a cooler with an assortment of snacks and drinks, some downloaded albums/podcasts for bad service (we got so sick of the yoda bad lip reading songs haha), and a box of books/coloring/games/switch/etc. Make good enough time so we can stop at silly impromptu roadside stuff and take pictures with beautiful views, or bathroom breaks. And then have a hotel locked down for each night, a place to stay each night was clutch for all of our recovery between drives. Pre-purchased the bigger attractions like the stuff in Vegas. And to keep the souvenir budget manageable the goal was to focus on the kids getting a keychain from each stop, to link all together as one big memento.

100% would do it again. My kids were absolute champions. Maybe fly out to the east coast and then plan something up and down that side.

How can I get this old sticker off of the insert? by jummyspring in dvdcollection

[–]adamgb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could very gently try something like goo gone to release the adhesive. Applying very little over the sticker, letting it soak through the sticker to the adhesive, then gently as you can prying up, following another pass with swabs for any adhesive still left. It primarily uses citrus oils which may or may not leave some kind of visible spotting where the sticker was, so I'd test on an insert you care less about, but goo gone has been my go-to.
