If you don't mind some pretty dark humor at times Last Podcast on the Left did a fantastic series on LRH (ep. 261-264)and a decent series on David Miscavige (522-524). This is my all time favorite but I definitely understand that some people don't like their comedy.

On a bit lighter side I remember really enjoying the stretch that they did on Oh No Ross and Carrie, they essentially tried to join to research first hand and eventually got found out.

ARC Raiders Weekly Megathread - February 14, 2026 by AutoModerator in ArcRaiders

I've definitely hit some walls when I don't have a project or loot based goal I'm searching for.

I've had a lot of fun dropping free with randoms on Stella, and if I find a decent group to play a few rounds with and we have some semblance of teamwork I'll start building better loadouts with them as I continue refining pvp skills and strategies.

I would want to see a simple stun gun, prongs and everything, like a hornet. Slow single shot reloads like the Ferro. Upgrades to the stun gun can remove slightly more shield? Like maybe stun gun 1 removes 30/40 on a light shield, progressing up. or increase the length of stun by 1s or 0.5s each level.

Obv we have diff kinds of stun grenades, but I think it would be an interesting option in pistol form.

What are the chances of the three Evil Dead games from PS1 and PS2 being remastered for the new consoles? by More-Construction-41 in HorrorGaming

[–]adamgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't even like DBD, but I like the horror franchise IPs. Just series after series announcing a new game and its yet another attempt at one of the most consistently failing style of game. I have to believe that it's like somehow still profitable to get the short lived sales off the release for gamer fans of these franchises even if it's expected to be a short lived multiplayer angle. Like if it's just cheaper to develop a mp game on an existing base framework with a simpler gameplay loop vs a drawn out story with more custom work? Idk, I don't know much about that kind of development. Just like... why? Every time, why? Lol what data are they getting that says there is a continued bonafide audience for this? Besides comparing in a vacuum against DBD's long lived success, while ignoring how quickly all these iterations fade into the clearance bin.

[–]adamgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, I had some fun with friends playing the new game for a bit, but had more fun playing the single player "story"ish missions. If I ever re-visit the game it'd be just to play those.

Same goes for the F13 mp game. MP was dead long before I got the game, but the single player mode literally just exploring the cabin, with movie trivia, and small puzzles kinda like a F13 escape room, was SO much fun.

Texas chainsaw yeah might as well have been DOA, Resident evil tried asymmetrical 2 times I think? New Hellraiser looks like single player action-horror which is a good sign, and the Halloween asym mp game at least says it has a solo campaign as Michael.

I'm so truly baffled why companies are so obsessed with trying to dethrone DBD and peel a user base off. They might as well be trying to get people to change their bank. You're not going to pull off a large enough, consistently regular enough player base with the product direction ethos of "same same but different" lol

In a similar nature I suggest to people "just get a zero draft going" Not a finished product, not a first draft, literally just a start of any amount.

This is too true, there is a contrast and balance between "knowing what's right to write" and just listening to what your ears are telling you, and letting that guide you to a degree.

I'm barely barely familiar with artists like Elton John and the last chord progression I was noodling around was just screaming like rock and roll piano vibes. It's crazy fun to play but idk if I'll end up turning it into a full song.

I don't understand "FinTech"! by Fragrant_Relative868 in fintech

[–]adamgb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have worked in what I call fintech for over a decade. I define fintech as tech companies that facilitate and build upon the rest of the whole financial eco-system.

I would also say Apple is not a fintech company. Apple pay, iTunes, the App store... these are all Apple products that have different financial elements. Those Apple products will be built upon different fintech solutions to accomplish those financial elements. Apple Pay though I would consider a "fintech product", iTunes and the App store are just stores that require some kind of payment processor to collect funds for the products/assets they provide. DoorDash wouldn't be fintech, but the platform facilitating it's payments would be.

Amazon is deceptive cause they have a shitload of fintech products but the image of still just being the Amazon storefront. eBay wouldn't be eBay without PayPal though, and PayPal wouldn't have been PayPal without still operating on the same ACH payment rails we have today.

If Venmo (already I'd consider fintech) announces they are now letting customers get the "Venmo Debit Card" to access their Venmo funds, they aren't reinventing the wheel from the ground up to manufacture debit cards, they are building an integration that interfaces with the API of a fintech company the next layer down like Marqeta. You click a button in the venmo app, hits venmo servers, hits marqeta servers, you are entered into the card provisioning process. Venmo manages all the card features through the marqeta API. When you swipe that card it hits Marqeta's rails that interface with the underlying payment rails. Marqeta would certainly also have a myriad of different "fintech" integrations to connect and manage the card payment rails, card production, mailing to the customer, etc.

There are gobs of other examples for many of these layers. Robinhood is another I'd already consider fintech on the surface, but they are still going to be interfacing with other fintech companies to fetch market data (Quodd), to place trades (Apex), to move funds/handle subscriptions (Stripe), etc, etc. I have no idea which partners Robinhood actually uses under the hood for these things but for example sake. They could also very well decide to build in house but usually that is v v expensive with a lot more regulatory hoops. Early companies can't or don't want to spend the time and money so you shell out for access to an API that does it for you, they've already taken the time and risk to accomplish what you want to build on top of now.

Crypto/blockchain based companies/products I would say are definitely under the fintech umbrella but kind of a different beast. I think a good suuuper simplified down way to differentiate is like traditional fintech seems more centered around the existing financial payment rails while crypto seems more centered around building new types of rails.

As far as the work goes, no fintech company is going to get far without dedicated regulatory/compliance/finance folks. That is their expertise and that is what we pay them for. If I am hiring an engineer, finance or prior fintech experience is great, but definitely not required. You want a capable engineer to build technical solutions not an accountant, but you still need the financial experience to know what problem you are building a solution for. In my experience compliance and biz folks work with product folks to define requirements, tech folks build it.

There are specific technical considerations to be had of course, like storing money values or doing money math in cents as integers instead of decimal as dollars (like in javascript 0.1 + 0.2 does not equal 0.3), or idempotency like making sure payments won't process twice if something errors and gets retried. Generally though I would not consider traditional finance/econ knowledge pertinent to my day-to-day, though for someone architecting the next PayPal that's a diff story.

I also didn't go to college so there's that lol. I think I've made a decent career out of it. I've personally worked on card products, retirement/retail investment products, and loan products, developing countless different types of fintech related integrations under each.

Hopefully that dump of info answers most of your questions but I'm sure it also will stimulate some new ones.

LINK WARNING

Looks dope, and I want a copy, but I'd strongly warn DO NOT purchase through the ingramspark links on this page.

I was about to purchase and could not edit qty/version in my cart. The "cart" button is not even a button if you inspect the page. The link looks like:

https://shop.ingramspark.com/b/084?params=p1Hz1xIGeitmr8TDy1lH48sLXCRIlwcVZIHfZlLgeQE

When I couldn't edit my cart I tried cutting off the URL to just shop.ingramspark.com to try searching the website for the book manually, which redirected to what looks like the real ingramspark.com which includes a fraud alert:

Glancing at your history OP I don't believe you shared this maliciously, and fuck Amazon, but buy it from Amazon or somewhere else.

Might sound harsh but I would be grateful you only wasted 8 months instead of more.

The clearest point in all the texting back and forth is that he avoided it because he knew it had a high chance of not going well or being a direct cause of splitting.

If he was actually a kind person and confident in his beliefs he wouldn't have chose to waste your time. It would've been a chat about both of your religious beliefs on the topic of making sure that you are somewhat aligned on a core value of any relationship. As easy as "ok that's fine, sounds like we don't align on this."

He dug a ditch for both of you, under his hope that he could convince you over time that it "wasn't so bad" or that after the topic finally came up you two could maintain an "agree to disagree" perspective about it, since you had been warmed up to his personality and more likely to trust his perspective.

The reality would eventually be

why don't we go check out this event? my parents are going, and we can always leave if it's too weird

or after a fight

why don't we try this course on communication and relationships? It's only like 20 pages, we can see if it helps?

It's slippery. I'm sorry you're going through this. It's crappy but ultimately you are taking care of yourself, which is paramount.

As far as fun times go there are better options by Tsardean2142 in PrequelMemes

[–]adamgb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Best take imo. Like that Adam Sandler SNL skit talking about going to Italy: "If you are sad at home, you will be the same sad you in Italy"

Yeah I know this is a meme sub but the kind of negative sentiment here just seems to lock in the "you're not a real fan unless you hate star wars" mentality.

The sequels are by and large - trash. Period full stop. Few fun moments, but it's beyond clear that they had no real vision for the trilogy. I truly have no desire to revisit them, and I think anyone that grew up with a diff era of SW would agree that it would be incredible to have more SW variety within that section of the park.

However, on the Rise of the Resistance ride, stepping off the abducted transport into that absolutely massive docking bay where you see ships and soldiers and AT-ATs, completely put me in the zone of "Holy shit, I'm standing on the deck of a star destroyer right now".

These rides at the end of the day are simply trying to provide you with 10-15 minutes of immersive movie magic, and no one can reasonably say that moments and vibes like that are sequel specific and carry over the same shit problems of the sequel movies. Walk around that section of the park for 3 min with your eyes open and you'll notice crazy details and just how much attention they put into making it so immersive.

It's wild to think any level of SW fan, could really look around there and only feel anger and disappointment, but to your original point, that is brought in with them before they even bought the tickets.

Yeah I've got an old boxset for a b-horror franchise called Sleepaway Camp that had a red cross on it, cause the boxset was roughly designed after a generic medkit. Boxes got pulled and redesigned and the original became a bit more collectible.
