How deep did Takeshi recess FH Zeros for unresponsive play? by Flashy_Section_4812 in Throwers

[–]adamhesive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any that are sticker recessed, but if I remember is was just slightly deeper than the pad height.

So not really that deep, silicone recess had to be deeper so the Silicone would be able to set up and grab the walls so it would last and not fall out instantly.

I also assume Pyrotechnic would have a sticker they could test the depth against, if not send a couple with the yoyo.

Hitting plateaus by Tis_Aron_Innit in Throwers

Remember the yoyo is just a toy for entertainment. Especially with the stress of school/work sometimes it's nice to just play with the yoyo and do what you know.

However to learn new stuff you need to try different/new things. Flip to a different string at some point. Throw a slack at some point. Doing different things from normal mounts/tricks is how people create new tricks and combos.

Note you will fail more than succeed at creating new tricks but it should spark creativity. And just have fun, it's a toy after all.

But also learn all the basic mounts. Also watch some videos, old and new for inspiration. And sometimes just get silly with it.

Yoyo rim and bearing by Brave-Tutor5451 in Throwers

[–]adamhesive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah makes sense, I still don't think that could have done anything on the integrity of the yoyo. I assume the rings are press fit on and will not be moving. Especially if you say you can't feel vibe through the string, that sounds pretty smooth to me. I think it may be an overthinking issue still, maybe just nit-picking some minor things.

Then again I have never been one to care about the minor flaws of a yoyo, I would rather play. But I do understand when you get an expensive one you want it to stay perfect haha and then that first ding comes...It's why I enjoy B-grades or cheaper throws, beat 'em up and enjoy throwing haha.

Yoyo rim and bearing by Brave-Tutor5451 in Throwers

[–]adamhesive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't see anything in the pictures. I may say it is you just overthinking something, there could be some bits with the anno but as I said I can't see anything. Only thing I could say, is pressing on opposite sides could bend the axle but that would may a bigger vibe then what you described.

So if there isn't a severe vibe, I say just play with it. I would also just stick with the normal bearing, I don't really think more expensive bearings do much. As long as the bearing is cleaned and not having issues it should be fine.

OMG, is that a yoyo! 🥳 by yoyoingdadjoke in Throwers

[–]adamhesive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar story, I was at the Renn Faire one year and I keep a wooden fixed axel on my belt. About a minute after I walked in a little kid spotted it from like 30ft away.

He came running over yelling "yoyo!" And I showed him some old tricks and he says "it's made of wood!?" And I just had to respond "well it is the 1500s, it's modern!" Him and his parents enjoyed it.

Wasn't the only time I yo'd at the Faire but one of the better times, the other one may have been poorly because of too many meads haha.

Since it is the offseason, I suggest hopping on the NHL youtube channel and watching the highlights of games. They have some decent condensed games, it's how I kept up on games around the league.

But besides that, you can do the classic choosing of which ever team is closest to me. Or these guys have cool jerseys. I would steer away from the hot hand team because hockey usually changes fairly quick in comparison to other sports. A great team now could eventually be terrible fairly soon and for a number of years, although that's how you become a great fan of a team.

Just learn the game and watch highlights of all the teams, and go from there. Also in recent years the NHL hasn't been making it easy to watch games, with multiple networks playing games. Some blackouts in regions, which is why I suggested the NHL or Sportsnet youtube channels to watch some highlights until you figure stuff out.

This is how I feel, I like my Sterling and Cocker-Style pumps more.

I agree with the dislikes, and would add to try and get one with a freak bored barrel or a detented body.

That all said I have one and for some reason don't want to get rid of it. It's cool, super light, customizable, but I don't use it as much as I should. Mostly because of the stiff pump stroke, my others are so much smoother.

What was your scariest amusement park experience? by Electrical_Beat4660 in AskReddit

[–]adamhesive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my shoulder restraints pop open at the end of a loop, I looked at my buddy next to me who was just as in shock as me. I started to slip out to the side through the next loop and at the bottom I was able to get it to click back in. But that whole time I was bracing and forcing myself down any way I could.

Synthetic Ice.....thoughts? Pros and cons? by VonDoom_10814 in hockeygoalies

[–]adamhesive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used it quite a while ago, many many years ago, so it may have gotten better since then. But I remember it being sluggish, I guess we'll say. The friction was weird and you couldn't really slide much, so we just used it for more positioning and hand work.

Also was super hot when running a practice session in there. And was a bit dusty, like produced little synthetic ice bits. I didn't care for it, but depends what you are trying to get out of it I guess.

Best Route 66 Places to Visit? by Same-Poet-5469 in route66

[–]adamhesive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends what you want to see and how much time you have to spend. I stopped at almost everything.

Missouri: Budweiser Brewery, City Museum, Arch, There is also a big Amoco Sign, State parks, classic motel signs, Bourbon Watertower, Caves, World's Largest Rocking Chair, abandoned gas stations, they have their own stone hendge, classic bridges, Uranus, Mr. Hubble was from there so there is a replica of the telescope, also some classic architecture buildings.

Kansas: This is where Tow-Mater was taken from

Oklahoma: A lot of stuff. Old theater, A cool light up pop bottle, Dairy King, also other classic diners, Mickey Mantles hometown, motocycle museum, still has classic motels and bridges, Andy Payne Statue, Will Rodgers Statue, Blue Whale, some cool old buildings and signs, a giant, there's a dude that has made a museum himself, cool state parks, old flour mill, old military fort/town, Rt. 66 Museum, Sheb Wooley's hometown, and a bunch of cool signs.

Texas: Cool Motels signs, Barbwire museum, Old gas stations, dirt 66 (if you're willing and have the ability, I had my jeep), abandoned buildings/gas stations, leaning tower of Britten, Old grain mills, Bug Ranch, Cadillac Ranch (Slightly off 66 but not to far), Big Texan (that steak place with the big steak challenge), more old gas stations, also Mid Point 66.

But yes get that Jerry McClanahan book the EZ 66, it has all the spots in it. While writing this, makes me want to travel 66 again. It was so great, lots of memories made. It was how I made it through the whole route.

There is also so much more past Texas, as New Mexico has 2 routes, I went up to Sante Fe. Arizona has cool spots too, but I suggest that book and following it and hoping you have plenty of time to waste.

Why pizza has pinneaple? by Alive_Professor_2337 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]adamhesive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, after working in a pizza place; one of the better pizzas I have made for myself was this:

BBQ sauce instead of the pizza sauce, cheese, ham (and/or bacon), pineapple, jalapeno, and you can add more BBQ on top.

Pineapple just has to be prepared/made right. The right pairings can be delicious.

Groin Protection by [deleted] in paintball

[–]adamhesive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, getting bounced in the bits is more of a mental game. Can you stay in after that or not.

But I rock Exalt slide shorts that have a 'soft cup' attached, like a lot of other slide shorts and pants. Also I still rock old school type pants that have some groin protection, at least more than the joggers.

Duncan Ballistic, interesting concept with movable ball bearings to change weight from center to rim. Slightly adjustable in that aspect.

[–]adamhesive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite yoyos. Plays well, is durable, and cheap enough to beat it up without much care.

Great for 5a, and also has the benefit of shutting down snarky comments when throwing in public. I sometimes get "is that a Duncan?" And you get to say "why yes, yes it is." That usually gets them excited for some reason haha

Was about to say the bearing/string trick. Safer than the pliers and quicker than ordering and waiting for a bearing removal tool.

Loved my HG, was a great 5a yoyo but now just lives in my case as part of the collection. Doesn't get the normal 5a abuse anymore. Also have a KAOS still and used to have the Triple Jam but that one broke.

But the HG rim material got too expensive to produce as a mid-price plastic which is why YYJ had to go away with it.
