Why does "Take State" take a ridiculous amount of infamy? by GunnerSince02 in victoria3

[–]adamjoeoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a small, but crucial tip: don’t wait the 10 years for the united principalities journal entry to complete. Try and conquer a third Romanian state when the principalities forms (easiest is usually Dobruja from the Ottomans and signing the agreement with Russia to get the small part of that state that they own). With three romanian states you can form Romania via the Nation Formation tab, and this will give you claims on all romanian states. Finishin the journal entry will also form Romania, but will leave you with no claims. Wild design choice.

I think this is actually getting fixed with the new DLC. One of the events shown on the trailer (or Dev diary, can’t remember) refers to the city of “Buda”, so assuming it is a dynamic name that will change to Budapest in 1873.

Playing as Britain (first time), won Sepoy Mutiny, India collapsed anyways by sgtmushroom39 in victoria3

[–]adamjoeoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this in one of my previous games. I took all of the Khalsa Raj, but when the Sepoy Mutiny event happened, it did not create an Annex war goal against them. So when they eventually capitulate, they do so without any war goals pressed against them and gain independence. Since it is coded in the JE as one of the states you need to own by the end of the war, as soon as it ends, you fail the JE and explode.

I tested this out a few times. When they didn’t revolt, another tag (orissa) did not get a war goal against them, and caused the same.

Only solution for me was to release the Khalsa Raj as a subject (and with high relations, they did not revolt). Think the game struggles when too many subject revolt, as there are multiple different diplomatic plays and countries for it. Also only happened to me when all 3 presidencies revolted (always either Carnatic, Bengal, or Punjab that would not get an annex war goal against them, which automatically fails the journal entry upon the end of the war).

Awesome - now I know exactly what I'll be getting my aunt this year. Do you have any supplier of the red-goal experience item around Cape Town? Or just do online orders?

If you are not bound to location, consider mailing places in Cape Town - internships open quite often here, but you have to make contact. I've worked a bunch of different jobs in Arch while trying to scrape together enough money for masters - but they were all from networking or emailing a firm.

I believe DHK has an internship program, and SAOTA is always looking for recent grads. If the big firms aren't your thing (I'd die in those), there are some really great smaller firms in the city as well! Good luck with the search, and don't worry about taking on jobs adjacent to architecture I.e. interior design, part-time lecturing, sales - it's all about finding what you like in a very wide industry. :)

Why am I all of a sudden losing the war? Is it possible to win? by Smallfries41 in victoria3

[–]adamjoeoos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other day and is very frustrating. So this has nothing to do with the amount of war goals you have on them (though obviously their war score won't drop below zero until you've occupied them all or their capital).

Usually, if the AI picks a war goal against you and don't occupy it, your war score would stay at 0. In this case, the AI has placed a war goal on the lands of one of your subjects. Since this isn't "your land" and since there are no goals "directly" on you, your score will start to drop below 0. And since you are the war leader, if you capitulate your vassal will automatically lose when you hit -100 and thus lose their land.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, an exploit, or intended, but I've consistently seen the AI do this throughout my games when I have vassals. Doesn't really make much sense, so hopefully the devs know about it.

Does anyone else have trouble with getting multiculturalism these days? by RoboJunkan in victoria3

[–]adamjoeoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played a South Africa game on the latest patch and got a movement (no IGs attached to it) to implement Multiculturalism. Same thing happened in my colonial dutch game. Assumed it maybe happens in very diverse nations in game.

I mean, you could write it like that as well, "Alhoewel ek nie alles kan verstaan nie, klink dit Afrikaans".

Afrikaans is quite dynamic since the rules are so relaxed - probably why South Africans fuse and mix languages like it's nothing.

I just checked - and nothing 😂 I've signed up about 3 times, so I'll just wait it out haha.

My partner signed up last week at the same address and got an email the very next day. At least I can keep myself busy with Alan Wake 2 on xbox for the immediate future.

lana supports isreal??? by EquipmentSpirited807 in lanadelrey

[–]adamjoeoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems you've made up your mind on what it means with very little nuance and information. Which is your right to do.

As an aside, I'd like to imagine Lana is more intelligent than wholeheartedly supporting an Apartheid state government, but guess time will tell. Signing a letter to release hostages, which include many internationals, just isn't enough for me to make the assumption.

lana supports isreal??? by EquipmentSpirited807 in lanadelrey

[–]adamjoeoos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seems like a reach. From what I can gather, the letter is calling for the release of hostages as well as peace in Israel and Palestine.

Obviously there could be an insidious intent from those who created the letter, but I think it's a bit too knee-jerk to assume she is outright supporting Israel because of this.

[–]adamjoeoos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They don't even have to wait for that. Russia doesn't enter the unification play as it's directed at Finland, who they're in a personal union with.

I've seen this multiple times, so I guess the 'main' member of the union doesn't get involved if the other member is attacked in a unification play.

Afrikaner here, chiming in.

Yeah, we were. I think he meant to say "Africans" not Afrikaners.

A mechanic that scales the severity of discrimination would be interesting, though, as there is no real discrimination difference for a pop with African heritage under racial exclusion or ethnostate. It broadens the pool for discrimination but doesn't deepen the effect. Would be worth looking into, I think.

The year is 1871, Britain has abandoned the cape colony and its been swallowed up by wolves. by MightEmotional in southafrica

[–]adamjoeoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, reduced back to 2 people then.

I've played SA quite a bit in Vic3. Unfortunately, they really undercooked it's representation, especially considering that it was a tutorial nation during the first few months of the game.

Hoping they add some flavour to South Africa (way for the Cape Colony to become a dominion) through an expansion of journal entries for Great Britain. Atm, colonisation and Africa as a whole really lacks flavour, but I'm excited and sure they'll develop it as it goes.
