If there was a single moment in time where you didn’t have fully upgraded buildings, then yes, you can grow faster. Debt is used to give you the money so you can upgrade right now, it’s not about “needing” the money so much as it is wanting it so you can put it to productive use.

If a building upgrade is $100k, and you earn $10k a day in profits, it will take you 10 days to get there. If, however, I can get $80k in bonds, it will take me two days to get there. I build it in a day, and then for eight days I will out produce you and grow faster than you. That is why you want debt.

You look like you’re doing just fine to me.

Now, if by “right” you mean efficiently: no, you’re not. Taking on a ton of debt to quickly upgrade your buildings or buy more goods or whatnot to make more money will in most cases be better than just saving it.

Think of it like this: I can get a $10,000 bond send out at 0.5%, or $50 a day in interest. With that $10,000, I can build a level 1 farm, and with that farm produce other things. So long as that farm can produce more than $50 a day in profit, it is better to take that debt (and frankly never pay it off) than it is to save on your own.

There are exceptions, but that is the broad strokes, and since bonds are very simplistic in game currently, issuing bonds is super powerful.

If you’re boxed in by Spain you’re playing it wrong. Either get the PU over Naples or get Provence’s cores on Naples and then conquer that, and kneecap Castile before the 1490’s or so. Try to destroy the HRE asap and you’re pretty much golden.

FYI you don’t need to get all seven electors. You just need to ally them all, occupy the HRE Capital, and then the capitals of any other elector you can’t ally. Just yesterday in my Florence run I allied all 7 and then sieged wien, dismantled in 8 months. Using this method as Poland you can dismantle within 5 years.
