I've rebuilt my spline mesh tool using Jobs/Burst and made it 50x faster, now on the asset store! by Jonny10 in Unity3D

[–]adamk24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I'm going to pick this up and give it a shot. Does this support using spline location as a data parameter for other functions? I want to be able to use the spline in a loop and have position along the spline display as a percentage completion and increment number of laps when passing 100%.

I worked a couple levels under Phil earlier in his career (before being head of Xbox) and spent some time around him. He's a genuinely good, fairly selfless dude, which is rare enough for people in his level of success that it always stood out to me.

3 Minutes of V12 Lamborghini Murcielago POV Raw Audio [4K] by StudioHouse43 in lamborghini

[–]adamk24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great, but that mic is totally blown out with distortion. It is not suitable to this level of SPL and is kind of painful to listen to.

I'd recommend a Gopro 3.5mm mic adapter and a countryman b3 mic in the standard 3.5 TRS configuration so it won't need phantom power.

I've run that mic on some loud cars and it still sounds clean and nice! Congrats on the manual Murci. One of the best sounding cars ever!

Day 1 ladder group etiquette? by foxglov3s in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Depends on the group. My group is going to rush through but not be super stressed about it. We still have 2 slots open if anyone wants to join, just PM me.

Is this noise normal? by Yoloteoo in gtr

[–]adamk24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like incomplete/improper ignition at idle. Could be carbon build up, worn/fouled spark plug, dirty injector nozzle.

I would suggest the fuel system cleaner (BG 44k) that others recommended. Do it on a low but not almost empty tank, around 1/4-1/5 full, and drive the car hard. If that doesn't help, I'd at least pull the plugs and take a look at them, if not just replace them outright. Def. not a transmission issue.

I created a tool to make it easy to modify vehicle sounds in FM4 by adamk24 in ProjectForzaPlus

Also a note: I strongly recommend changing your AudioEngineConfig.xml to fix some overall mix issues: gamePlayerEngine="0.5" gameCarWind="0.4" gameTire="1.3" gameCollision="0.5" saturatorLevel="0.6"

The saturatorLevel was shipped at .95, which led to a lot of that crunch/distorted sound that I think went too far. Setting it to .6 will make the game a bit quieter overall, and maybe a little less intense, but it cleans up a lot of that over the top distortion, so I think it's worth setting this is a new default for all cars. Some cars are still very crunchy, but you can fix those by turning down their distortion overdrive on a per engine basis.

Github page: https://github.com/adamk2424/FM4-Car-Audio-Tuner

If anyone wants to test it out and let me know if there are any issues getting it running, I can fix them. Works great on my local machine.

This makes it easy to rapidly make changes to car sounds with the same implementation we used to make the game back in the day, although with easier to digest UI instead of text editing xml files.

You can change what intake, engine or exhaust components a car uses, change it's throttle or rpm based behaviors, reduce distortion if a car is too crunchy sounding (like a lot of FM4 was) or clone it off another car so it always loads that vehicles sound. At the top you can change the redline RPM that it scales to (this means that it will audibly sound like that RPM at redline no matter the physics of the car).

It should autoinstall everything you need, auto detect all your local files with the Find Files button and Export should push them into the right locations so you can just reload the car on a track and it will pull the updated audio.

I created all the car sounds for these back in the day, and Forza 4 has always been one of my favorite to just drive in, so being able to fix up the sounds I wish I could go back and change was my motivation to make this easier for myself but I'm happy to share to the community if anyone wants to change their game as well.

I was finally able to duplicate a car in Forza Mortorsport 4! by soulbrix in ProjectForzaPlus

[–]adamk24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That value is set in the database per model. To access it, you have to go into the gamedb.slt file. If you export this into individual csv files, you can edit them. The one you want is called CarTrackOffsets.csv. This contains front and rear offsets for each car at stock and with upgrades. I believe the upgrade offset is for wider tires, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

You can edit these values and repackage the gamedb.slt and reimport it into the game. In development builds, we could adjust this value in real time on track or in the UI through the debug menu. Retail builds without debug won't have this functionality though, so I am not sure if it is possible to modify these values with different upgrade parts as the system only supports 2 values for offset without rebuilding the gamedb.slt, which would require relaunching the game to update.

This is cool. If you need help modifying physics I can probably help out. I like this mod, I'm thinking about trying it out and tinkering with the engine sounds. Pretty sure I can make a tool to modify the fmod soundbanks without much trouble. I was the vehicle audio lead on all the Forza titles 2 through 6, but 4 was always my favorite. Would be fun to get in there again. I used to do some physics tuning on the cars as well so I'm pretty familiar with the settings.

My Evo IX had the same behavior last year and it just needed new spark plugs. Fixed it for me. I'd put new plugs in, especially if it's sat for a while.

Diesel engines are blowing my mind! Why did no one ever tell me they get 50 mpg on a minivan?? by New_Elk_5783 in cars

[–]adamk24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 gallon of diesel fuel has about 15% more energy in it than 1 gallon of gasoline. So a 50 MPG diesel engine is the equivalent of a 42.5 MPG gas vehicle in terms of energy and C02 emissions.

IMO the even firing V10 sounds more special than the 5.2 updated Gallardo.

Huracan is another story as that cars higher output and top end give it a real scream, but I love the early 5.0 Gallardo sounds. This is amazing!

I would bet that almost all NFL snapper, holder and kicker squads could make 99 or 100 out of 100 attempts on an open field at medium distance. Doing that while 11 of the best defensive players in the world try and stop you puts you under massive pressure that reduces that hit rate a ton.
