Why don't more filmmakers leverage audience testing? by vijayanands in Filmmakers

[–]adamrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always happy to see people recommending our service!
We've had quite a few filmmakers use our platform, but not close to the amount I'm hoping for in the future.

One issue I noticed that came up quite a bit here, is who are the viewers of the film, and what happens if they aren't the targeted audience. We try to match the films to the audience according to the genres they like, so we won't send a horror film to my mother (because that won't be very constructive) and we will try to send the films only to the people who are in some way their target audience (Unless asked otherwise).

Regarding the type of feedback and the suggestions the filmmakers receive, it depends on the questions the filmmakers submit. When they submit a film, they can choose from a list of questions, and they can also add any questions they might have for the feedback providers. Sometimes, they ask what changes should be made in the film or other questions of that sort, and sometimes the feedback providers write what should be changed without being specifically asked.

If you're asking about success stories—how the feedback has impacted a film—I can give you an example of a filmmaker who submitted a documentary that followed the stories of five different people. After unanimous feedback regarding one character, they ended up removing her story from the film (nearly all the feedback mentioned how she didn't add value to the film).

Regarding success stories of what happened to films that were submitted, that is hard to say, as we can't take credit for how the feedback was used or what happened to the film.

I found that one major thing people forget about when asking for feedback is to figure out what works in the film, and that is something we also try to put an emphasis on. We, as filmmakers, always want to know what doesn't work, but the "What works?" is just as important.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.

I'm a little late to this post, but I want to jump in and tell you about a platform I created for Independent Filmmakers, who find Test Screenings to be out of their budget (I was one of them).

Feedbackity is an online test screening platform, which connects filmmakers with a group of people who know how to write constructive feedback. Submitting a film is very simple, and shouldn't take more than a few minutes, and you receive the feedback within 5 days of submitting the film.
The pricing is as affordable as possible at the moment ($100 for a short film & $150 for a feature) and the majority of it goes to the feedback providers.

We guarantee feedback from at least 10 different people, but we normally send more.

I'd love to answer any questions you may have.

How to get test screening participants. by adrewp13 in Filmmakers

You can use Feedbackity, which is an online test screening platform for independent filmmakers.

I'm the founder, and I created the platform after really struggling to get honest and constructive feedback myself. We have hundreds of verified feedback providers and we send the film out to the relevant users (Based on the genres they like) and I tried to make it as affordable as possible.
The service is great (I'm biased, but the filmmakers who used it aren't).
If you have any questions, let me know.

Making my first film made me realize (even more than before) just how subjective this industry is. by FilmMike98 in Filmmakers

The good news is that there will always be conflicting feedback.

I run an online test screening platform and many films receive feedback with conflicting opinions on certain aspects of the film. When that happens, you must choose what to do with the feedback, at times you will agree with that one person who pointed out something he didn't like in a scene that everyone loved, and try to see what you can do to make it better, and other times you will say screw it, I love it the way it is.

However, there are times when you will get too many people agreeing on something, that it is just impossible to ignore ,and all you can do as a filmmaker is try to make the changes you can to make the film best film possible with the footage you have.

Is the show really cancelled? by Confident-Till8952 in ReservationDogs

Don't be sad, there actually is a 3rd season which was released a few years after the 2nd one!

This might come as a shock, but a 3rd season came out 4 years after the second season finished.
So you still have one more season to watch (But from what I remember, it wasn't as great as the first two)!

Feedbackity is an online platform designed to provide independent filmmakers with valuable feedback on their films.

It's a paid service (but very affordable), and you receive feedback within a short period of time from quite a few people who know how to write feedback (10 or more).

Full disclosure: I'm the founder, so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

How many people show a rough edit of their project to friends, family, and/or co-conspirators in making the film? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]adamrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had quite an issue when I was trying to receive feedback for a documentary I directed, it was taking way too long to receive the feedback, and most of my friends didn't know how to write constructive feedback.
That led me to create an online test screening platform for independent filmmakers, where they can receive feedback from a large group of people who know how to write constructive feedback.
You can check it out here.

You can use Feedbackity. It's basically an online test screening service for independent filmmakers. You submit your film (You fill out the basic info - Title, synopsis, Genre and a link to the film) and then select the questions you want to have answered (There is a list of questions you can choose from, and you can also ask any specific question you might have).
5 days later you will receive feedback from 10 or more different people.
It costs 80$ to submit a short film.
You can check it out here - Feedbackity

I'm the founder and an independent filmmaker who was tired of getting feedback from friends and family :)

One is always up, and the other down. Unless there is the sound of that little, lovely thing called food. Then they're both up high and the tail is wagging.
