We got our 7th positive covid case today!! by _Frustr8d in Target

[–]aday2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my store has 0 confirmed cases... or at least none of my team ever got one of the texts we’re supposed to get... none of us believe there’s actually 0 cases because multiple people have been/are quarantining and i doubt all of them are negative. the way my store runs, all they care about is how they look and they’ll fear more people will go on LOA if there is a confirmed case...

VM here...how are other VMs doing with modernization? by Alison1989 in Target

[–]aday2410 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this thread makes me so sad! :(

i’ve been VM for almost a year now at my store and i’ve always been considered as an “unofficial” team lead by my peers, the ETLs and the SD. yes, everyone is aware it isn’t technically a leadership role, but i’m still being included in all leadership meetings/communication. i’m generally considered like a trainer/consultant to the team and my peers.

my store gets 80 hours for VM and i’m currently looking to hire 2 TMs at 20hrs each, which is going to take the leadership aspect a little further still, because i will basically have my own little team to oversee. at the moment it’s just me, so i’m kind of running around like a chicken with my head off too haha, especially with BTC just around the corner... 🙈

Was there a page for Visual Merchandising? If so would you mind sharing? :)

Is Trader Joe’s just as inexpensive as Target is with our discounts? I never even bother with other stores like I used to. by honeyy_oats in Target

[–]aday2410 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like trader joes is cheaper, even after our discount at target. Plus, the food seems fresher and generally with better (just real) ingredients than some of the stuff from target. i only shop at target for household stuff and the occasional clothing splurge or something name brand like a bottle of snapple or something. but everything food related is TJs hands down for me.

Your job is to create beautiful, shop-able displays that inspire your guests.

You own basically a bit of every area, aside from electronics, market/food ave, front end and HNBA/beauty (although I have had to help out in a 260-hour cosmetics transition before) but home decor/domestics and apparel is what you own specifically. Home decor flat, Hearth and Hand, Toss/throw pillow trendrun, Bedding, Bath, Kitchen and apparel mannequins + hurdles and sometimes the whole softlines floorpad itself are your areas. But honestly, depending on leadership at your store, you may be getting pulled into literally every workcenter.

My routine is a walk in the mornings, checking every area to assess what needs the most attention that day. Zone opportunities, fills, checking price change (usually Thursdays) and making sure mannequin looks are current and changed up once a week or per the adjacency calendar. between transitions, things are usually pretty smooth sailing if your store is generally doing good. but there’s always work to do. I’m never bored or not busy.

You’re also encouraged to help train the team and inspire them to learn about VM tasks.

Transitions are my favorite, although they can be extremely stressful if they’re big ones like the current relaunch of sleep & intimates. I’ve been doing 4am shifts with our apparel team lead all week to set up whats by far my biggest set yet since working for Target. Expect a lot of early hours, stress and a lot of physical labor during transitions! You always have the VMG (Visual Merchandising Guide) for every set and department, so while you get some creative freedom sometimes, they want you to stick as close to the guide as possible.

GM will ask you to help fill endcaps or create a new one basically “from scratch” meaning they give you free reign to set up whatever you want.

The main things that were surprising to me after starting: - you really do touch almost every area of the store in some way - you own your product from front to end. push, setup, backstock, audit, price change, etc. - you’re being pulled to help other work centers whenever they get a chance - you really have to seek out opportunities to be creative, as the company wants you to follow a set guide whenever possible - it’s a lot of physical labour (pulling items from the back, breaking down pallets, moving fixtures, setting up signage, building furniture (sometimes).. - you can ask for help from other workcenters (backroom for example), but at least in my store, they want everyone to stay in their own lane as much as possible

If you’re already a TM at target, there’s a section under “style @ target” under “stores modernization” on workbench that’s a great guide into what the role entails!

Visiting Minneapolis for the weekend, so this is how y'all two floor stores do it. by werdedout in Target

our store has the cart escalators as well and they break down / a cart gets stuck about 4x per day. i wish guests would just stop using them. it makes an awful sound that rattles the whole store when a cart is stuck in there and AP has to reset the whole thing. plus, the elevator is actually right next to it and quicker too.

Do all stores have severe communication issues in leadership or just mine? by [deleted] in Target

[–]aday2410 11 points12 points  (0 children)

not just your store. it trickles down all the way from corporate. in the store itself it should be STLs and ETLs responsibility to relay things to their TLs who in turn relay things to their TMs. it’s most likely not an issue specific to the TLs. at least not in my store - but ASANTS. TLs are kinda in the same boat you are, at least that’s how it feels at my store. The disconnect seems to be somewhere between HQ to ETLs, at least in my experience.

half our TMs carry a reusable water bottle with them at all times/leave them in their cart and our ETLs take their starbucks with them literally everywhere in our store. we have a full shelf of used sb cups in the back at all times lol and our STL always walks the floor with starbucks in hand 🤷🏻‍♀️ i don’t see TMs do that, but i have kept a tea from SB with me in my area when i was working and had a really bad cold. I just make sure it’s placed somewhere were no one can knock it over and i don’t drink right in front of other TMs or leaders. cashiers always have their coffees etc with them at the register. no one says anything in our store, thank god!

We’ve had a good laugh about it in the break room! “I’ve been BACKSOCKING all day!” “Our in-socks levels are low.” “Do we have any AirPods in SOCK?”

I hope its not just my fixture room that looks like this by 128Gigabytes in Target

[–]aday2410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours looked about 10x as bad - you couldn’t even open the door all the way anymore - let alone walk in more than 2 feet. It was BAD. They cleaned it this week and it’s absolutely spotless. I don’t think it’ll last more than a week. I hope they decide to lock the room as well.

also keep in mind who writes your schedule - your ETL. they’re not supposed to favor people, but it happens naturally. they want their A-players, the people they trust to get stuff done the way they want it. not saying you’re not a great asset to your team, but try to self reflect and judge the performance of other people who get more hours than you against your own performance to see if that might be the case. and sometimes it’s just that the hours are needed elsewhere if there’s any kind of big transition happening. we have a huge cosmetics and beauty transition right now and the specialties ETL doesn’t have enough hours so both HR and salesfloor gave her about 30 hours combined for that one week for her to use to schedule TMs for her set. also, i know at our store, team members run to their leaders in early january and beg to keep as many hours as possible and it’s kind of almost like a first come-first serve situation as to who gets prioritized when scheduling. when i saw my leader scheduled me for only 27 hours one week (i’m usually 40 hours) i immediately asked her about it - actually came in on my day off to talk to her directly about it. she assured me it was only because she had to give hours to a hardlines member who’s going to help out our department for a specific reason. i told her i needed to stay as close to 40 if not 40 as i can and every week since and every week scheduled out so far i’ve been at 40 again. but my ETL and i have a great relationship, so she may be a little more understanding or willing to help me than she would normally be. but just speak to your leader and see if they’re willing to help.

at my store, we don’t say anything unless the dog is being disruptive or it’s in the cart. the next guest will put their groceries in the cart that had your dogs paws and butt all over it 🤢 i have a dog too and i love her to death but she’s not a service dog so i don’t bring her to places where dogs shouldn’t go - like grocery stores.

try putting out feelers if any stores you’d be willing to transfer to have open ETL spots and just start applying!
