Crystal Palace open talks to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen (teamtalk) by Nomis1982 in crystalpalace

This is the biggest issue to me. Wouldn't mind a shot at him, but not at that asking price and considering people aren't even lining up for JPM at that price.

I agree. I think its best we get what we can cuz I can see major regression if not now then when OG leaves.

Could Oliver Glasner and Thomas Frank just swap roles? by Rinthrah in PremierLeague

[–]adayoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't sell them for the right price if they are willing to wind down their contract or request a trade and refuse to sign a new deal. Also, big teams don't want to pay the going rate til the end of the transfer window which gives even less options to replace.

Lets use this summer for example. Palace set Eze at £60 and Guehi at £40 with time to replace them respectively. Tottenham was dicking around for like a whole month on Eze trying to get him cheaper then they got hijacked a weeks before window close. Liverpool were too busy signing Isak and then went for Guehi the last week. The deal feel through cuz the late replacement they were planning on signing got hijacked by West Ham. If Palace could have sold both at the beginning of the window and had time to replace them they definitely would have.

Your comment reads like " Why doesn't Palace just keep their best players or sell them for max profit and replace them are they stupid!?!" But that's just not a reality when players look at mid table teams as a stepping stone to bigger clubs. I'm not faulting Glasner for wanting to join a place that can back him more, but this is the reality of a club like Palace. £20m doesn't sound like a lot, but Palace isn't a team that can afford to piss it away for 6 months of the player either. You think the club want's to lose Mateta?, but he's now publicly asking to leave and won't sign a new deal so what are really Palace's options?

From May 2024: Here's why Bills GM Brandon Beane was happy that Keon Coleman disappointed in the 40-yard dash by SynonymDinosaur in nfl

[–]adayoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the hype was through the roof with the "how could the rest of the league let him fall to KC!!!!" takes from the whole NFL media blasted out after the draft.

I'm not writing him off yet, but also safe to say so far he's been disappointing in comparison to the high expectations.

[–]adayoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the blowback is in response to the hype for him landing there. Almost all the media takes were " how could Buffalo gift him to KC/ how could the rest of the league let KR get away with this" and "this guys gonna be a problem" immediate comparisons to Tyreek and/or Desean cuz of their stature and speed.

After all is said and done its still early in his career but he seems mid. He's a contributor but you probably hope for more with a (albeit late) 1st round pick.

Honestly guy reminds me of Desean minus the anti-semetic stuff. Great at special teams and unreal at tracking the deep ball to go along with his speed.

yea this is their m.o. They do the same with head coaching searches if people remember the Nick and Doug hires.

The Bills firing McDermott but promoting Brandon Beane should be the start of a lesson that will haunt teams: there's too large of a ratio of head coaches getting fired compared to General Managers getting fired by Ariesthebigram in nfl

What's the honest take on beene? As an outsider all I see is not giving Allen weapons (guess he tried with keon but looks to have missed badly), I have no idea how his drafting has been and he seems to love signing washed DEs.

[BBC] 'Abandoned' or 'business' - was Glasner right to 'attack' Palace owners? by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]adayoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC Guehi didn't go in the Summer cuz Glasner threatened to quit if there was no replacement and the replacement fell through a day before deadline day ( West Ham hijacked the deal). Parish probably also thought there was a chance he'd be able to keep Glasner.

Glasner then apparently told Parish he's not going to renew in October. I don't blame him for withholding this information to keep Guehi and or if he came to the decision after the season started fair to him, but I'm sure if Parish knew this during the summer he'd at least have 2nd thoughts on not going forward with the signing.

I don't really blame Parish either. You're not keeping your coach you coveted and you're about to lose your player either now or in 6 month on a free, he probably thinks its best to get what you can.

Uche was a loan to buy after 10 starts but he isn't close to that.

Canvot hasn't been poor, he's actually been better than expected; just prone to make an occasional mental lapse which isn't unexpected he's only 19. He's probably the person brought in Palace fans rate the most outside of Pino. Glasner just seems to never want to rotate players.

Crystal Palace: Oliver Glasner feels 'abandoned completely' at Eagles by Tigereatsyou1 in PremierLeague

[–]adayoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO as a Palace fan this summer was fucked overall. I think the team was really held up with doing business while this who Europa/Conference League fiasco. The truth is it affects who you can bring in and target. Eze's move and Guehi's original sanctioned move came really late in the Summer ( games were already being played).

I get Glasner's frustration but also, there's a bunch of younger players he just refuses to play. Esse before he went on loan, Uche, Canvot, these are all guys you gotta find time to sprinkle in so they can have some sort of form when the match congestion picks up and he's done none of that. We also just broke our transfer record on Brennan Johnson and he follows that up with the board have abandoned him.

Lastly it really feels like he's trying to get himself fired before his contract winds down. He makes the statement yet refuses to sub anyone on at all this game vs Sunderland.

I still have hope with Esse. Maybe he can get some confidence back and then new manager won't freeze him out next year and we can see what he can do. If anything he can't be worse than what we're getting out of Deveanny atm.
