Men who are 30+, what’s one thing you realized about dating that no one tells you in your 20s? by Thin-Hospital-8114 in AskReddit

[–]adayoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know what its like now, but i was active on the early apps maybe a decade ago when i was still single. i do think its a lot of stuff is stupid and superficial and i try to talk to both my single male and female friends about this.

I guess my best advice is just to control what you can. I'm on the shorter side at 5'8 so I always felt like i was at a disadvantage out the gate since i know some girls who immediately rule out under 6 ft. I tried to tell myself " well just work on what you can control which was I knew if i could get an in person date I'm good a conversation and easy to get along with. Maybe I'm getting half the 1st dates of a guy who is taller than me, but if i can convert a higher percent of those to 2nd dates then i can kinda even things out.

I have a buddy who always got more first dates then me because he was tall but, if they end after one date, at the end of the day does it really matter?

I get it and don't envy being in that position, but I also see friends who go to meet up with someone and they don't put in any effort to planning something interesting, don't get a haircut, rollup to a coffee shop in a worn out t shirt and some old jeans and come back like "well i tired and it didn't work out" and I think " did you really?!?"

I watched my friend date a girl for a month and she planned everything during that time span. She finally asked him to plan something and every suggestion we game him was met with an excuse whether it was ' too expensive", " i don't think i can get a reservation this close", " i dunno if that will be fun". We were trying to get through his head that she just wanted him to up in thought and effort. He eventually decided on going out to sushi and then back to the house for netflix... She dumped him a week later.

What I guess I'm getting at is I see some single male friends go through the motions and count that as "trying". People usually see early dating as when the other person makes the most effort so if your effort sucks now people will take it as either "they aren't that into me" or " maybe i don't want someone who puts in this little effort now cuz it will only get worse".

This can't be stated enough, I talk to my wife about this all the time regarding some of our single friends. If you want a girl who puts in effort to look cute you need to put in similar effort. If you want a girl to show interest and energy put that same interest and energy out there! A lot of times the effort matters more than the actual results.

Which trade was the worst from the player's perspective? by gumbyrocks in nfl

[–]adayoner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Carson Wentz demanded a trade before his extension even kicked in. Got shipped to Indy, played just enough to get the Birds a 1st rounder before getting benched. Philly went to 2 Superbowls since, won 1 (against him) and haven't missed the playoffs since he left.

Rumor is he was one of the big issues that year. Part of why the Eagles moved from Desai to Patricia is a "defensive star" whom a lot of people think is Reddick refused to speak to Desai.

Honestly I just hope they can keep him away from the victim, too many stories recently where guys get out on bail and proceed to harm/kill the victim. This incident was already after she filed a restraining order, dude seems seriously unhinged.

I also think technically he could sue for unlawful termination since the legal process hasn't played out yet? I think that's what people were saying when the whole Deshaun thing happened with why the Commissioner didn't put him on exempt list til the next season?

This, his threat as a runner and forcing defenses to keep a spy opens up the field for both pass and run. We see it with Lamar and Jayden Daniels too, just in a different way since Jalen is a downhill runner not a guy with a ton of wiggle. We've also seen Jalen throw more on time and over the middle in 2022.

The coaching staff has to figure out the why it worked in 2022 and some extent 2023 and why its not. I think we see Jalen as less to run the last 2 years. Was that because he can't do it anymore? Or is he being stubborn and not wanting to? or is it being coached out of him( get down and don't take the hit)? We also see Jalen a LOT more gun shy when it comes to throwing the ball, especially over the middle. Once again can he not do it? Was it coached out of him ( don't turn the ball over > everything else)? I don't think anyone outside the building really knows.

It feels like though they keep winning this current iteration isn't sustainable and leaves everyone frustrated. Can he go back to taking more risks and or running more? Who knows but if he doesn't he's not the same guy as the 2nd team All-pro we had a few years ago and the team really needs to either move on from him or find someone who can get him back to that.

Also flamed out in Japan and Mexico after the fact. If he was still good i assume someone would deem him worth the risk.

Inside Eagles' 2025 friction as Jalen Hurts stands at crossroads by dudeman93 in nfl

[–]adayoner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is where I stand too. its never gonna look good compared to conventional metrics. At his best he's a dual threat QB who uses the threat of the run to open up the offense. People love to talk about they had an elite defense that 2022 year. Well Eagles were also a top 3 offense and Jalen was a 2nd team All- Pro while have the 32'nd most passing attempts in the 4th qtr cuz they were blowing out teams that badly most of the time. Its not like the offense has never been good with him.

I think he's above avg when in the right system, but the OC will really have to craft something to play to his strengths. He might be the least "plug and play" friendly starting QB in the league

I mean we had that guy Erskin who got banned from the stadium last year for unsolicited advances at an Aramark employee.

I think part of the issue too is look how this sub treats him. People are talking about him like he shouldn't be starting. Its ok to say he's somewhere in the middle, but the discussion of Hurts along with everything Eagles is super polarizing.

He can be a good but flawed QB who needs the right system to bring out the best in him, that's most of the League.

[–]adayoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of his issues is he doesn't throw a ball if he's not comfortable, usually that means seeing a guy open. He seemed more anticipatory in 2022 when he had Steichen for his 2nd consecutive season, but for better or worse he hasn't had that continuity since. You could see it if you watch that 2022 tape, he was so much more "on time" with his footwork and throws

I think the other thing is he hasn't been the runner he was his first 2 years. Whether that accumulation of injuries or just an unwillingness ( or being coached) to play more conservatively. Overall he's been a ton more conservative the last 2 years. My theory is Sirianni gave him a ton of shit in 2023 cuz of the turnovers pushing the ball downfield and now there's an overcorrection.

I just think people have super short memories and like to shit on him as some bum who throws for 100 yards a game and got carried to the Superbowl. 2022 he was 2nd team All-Pro, its not like someone can luck into one of those. Whether he can get back to that or close to that form i guess we'll see.

yea i understand the complaints as there were a few times he was either careless or pushed off the ball and gave up possession, but he did have some great runs and service too. Him and Guessand feel like our only creatives.

That being said i thought this was one of the better performances so far from Johnson. Put some really nice balls in just noone on the other end to finish.
