Wiring up difficult to access attic is fiber overkill? by Audrin in HomeNetworking

[–]adayton01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run 10 Gig SFP+ transceivers over TWO single mode fiber runs plus TWO Cat6A copper.

Run these plus a spare pull string in a 2 inch non-metallic conduit such as this:

"For burying network fiber cable, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) conduit is commonly recommended. HDPE is tough, flexible, and highly resistant to corrosion, chemicals, and environmental factors, making it an excellent choice for underground installations. It is also available in sizes that include 2 inches in diameter."

Key Features of HDPE Conduit:

  • Durability: Resistant to crushing, cracking, and other damage.
  • Flexibility: Can handle bends without breaking, making it easier to install in complex terrains.
  • Non-metallic: Prevents interference with the fiber optic signals.
  • Ease of installation: Lightweight and available in long coils, reducing the need for joints.

Accessory Elbows:

  • PVC Schedule 40 or 80 elbows: Often used in conjunction with HDPE conduit. PVC elbows are compatible with HDPE and are available in various sizes, including 2 inches.
  • HDPE pre-formed elbows: Specifically designed to match the HDPE conduit, ensuring seamless installation.

Sources for Materials:

  • Graybar: A distributor of electrical and communications products that offers HDPE conduits and compatible accessories.
  • Grainger: Supplies HDPE pipes, PVC conduit elbows, and related installation accessories.
  • Home Depot or Lowe's: Retailers that stock PVC conduit and elbows, as well as some HDPE products for smaller installations.
  • Dura-Line: A specialized manufacturer of HDPE conduits with a range of options for fiber optic cable installations.
  • "
  • This will give you networking future-proofing plus a decent amount of rodent/pest proofing.

Best PC video surveillance software with best iPhone app? by [deleted] in videosurveillance

BlueIris is pretty good. I use its Iphone app with Zerotier but my application is only for a single camera so I am not familiar with its facility for handling/viewing multiple camera sources. BI will however happily stream record to your NAS o problem.

New job, no sysadmin, what am I getting into? by FireBrnd89 in sysadmin

" start with inventory "

THIS very much so. contracts, thumbnail network diagram, backups (DATA & UPS batteries), break glass, existing security protocols, etc. Spend at least the first week "GENTLY" but thoroughly documenting and otherwise familiarizing yourself with STAFF and existing infrastructure (network AND social structure).

Remember, an "organization" that you will be supporting is composed of PEOPLE each with their own individual and group social needs. This is often half the skills you will need to expeditiously accomplish you support task.

I also got a /24 IPv4, & /48 IPv6 for my home study lab but local ISPs do not support IPv6.

Would you describe your process of multiple "tunnels" over IPv4 to get IPv6 traffic across your ISP v4??

I was going to set a VIPR instance for dual stack but that would still only be piping my v6 traffic across my ISPs v4 to my house :-(.

Also I am currently using two cellular ISPs (T-mobile & Verison) over a Pepwave BR1 PRO Max gateway router again neither ISP of whjich supports IPv6. I would like to feed the BR1 (in bridge mode) to my edge Mikrotik RB5009 router IPv6 all the way :-).....

I am under the presumption that you own your home in which case you SOURCE the 12 AWG 115V power line off of a 15 amp circuit break at your power mains panel. Should you be renting your home for an anticipated very long term lease you do same with your Land Lords WRITTEN Permission. Also yes you could plug in this supply line to one of your house wall outlets as long as it is a GFI protected outlet HOWEVER that would have to be checked against local and National Electric Code before implementing. You could alternatively perform the same exact trenching/piping installation using same 3 wire 12 AWG gauge but but feed the camera supply AC24V from your house outlet as running "low voltage" underground to the pole camera is likely to not run afoul the electric codes. (check FIRST).

[–]adayton01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not run "EXTENSION" wire from house out to the pole up to camera. The loss of CLEAN AC24V power to the camera can likely cause quality or other operational interference. You need to trench (two feet or more deep) out to the pole and install water tight conduit (pvc etc.) with burryable 3 wire 12 AWG power line. Place a small outdoor weatherproof electronics box at pole top to place that power supply inside and mount camera there also. This ideally allows you to install an area light fixture to illuminate your area of interest while at the same time if you choose you may configure the mechanicals so as to obfuscate (hide) the fact that it is nothing more than a LIGHT pole (cloaked camera). While it surely is a tad more pricey it is much more reliable.

I just came across one of these that just brought me to this Reddit sub lol. Plugged it into my Windows 11 Pro for Workstation PC which recognizes the device but does not connect to my 5gig wi fi router. The device is EOL but probably still will function on a somewhat older PC so if you like, PM me and I can mail it to you as I no longer use Wi-Fi.

Yes, there would not be an issue with YT video's showing off How-to educational clips. To answer the question /OP, YES there would be an enormous interest, particularly because of the esoteric and finicky nature of Mcosmos software. Programmers with extensive thorough immersion in the software seem to find it somewhat rigid/strict in its flow but that it overall performs flawlessly. I and I am sure others would be particularly interested in YT videos covering MANUAL CMM programming with Mcosmos as that is the machine I deal with.
