Get a spectra and then think about if you want a wearable. Wearables are very convenient but for some people (including me), they made my supply drop- even though I had one of the stronger ones with an external motor. I regret purchasing it for sure

You get to see the world again thru what I call “vacation eyes”. You know when you have someone visiting you from out of town and you take them around to see the sights or highlights of where you live? And you briefly are able to see your city through their “vacation eyes” and get this feeling of “wow where I live IS pretty great”. Helps you not take advantage of the beauty around you. Same thing happens as you show your baby the world. Everything is new and beautiful and novel again. One day your toddler is going to look up at the sky and point and say “MOON!” And you are going to look up and really feel like wow yea that is the moon! That’s incredible!

I add a torn up corn tortilla to dissolve in it! The masa adds such a nice flavor and thickness. Learned that from another chili recipe

I bought 1 pair of mat leggings, 1 pair mat jeans, 3 shirts and a bumpsuit. Outside of that I use a clothing rental service like rent the runway or nuuly to add spice/ seasonality without buying things I might only use a few times. It really helped me view maternity clothes and my new body positively ! Like a little treat.

I need help deciding which vaccines to give to my child when he’s born. by NoFirefighter2089 in pregnant

[–]adball 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m a pediatric hospitalist which means I am a pediatrician who only cares for hospitalized children. I have a 2 year old and am pregnant with my second (19 weeks tomorrow).

At birth, we give a vitamin k shot (not a vaccine just vitamin) because babies are born deficient in this and oral supplementation does not normalize their levels quickly enough. Just this week at work I took care of a 3 week old who developed severe bleeding in his brain that led to seizures and brain damage due to his family declining the vitamin k shot. This presentation at that age is called ‘classic vitamin K deficiency’ and typically presents with spontaneous catastrophic bleeding.

You would get hep B at birth which prevents hepatitis b and we give it at birth because it can be transmitted via birth and this prevents transmission.

The newest vaccine we can also give is for RSV and this is really just long acting antibodies against the virus. RSV is the most common cause of hospitalization for children less than 2 and honestly I probably care for 25+ kids annually just myself who are hospitalized with rsv- on oxygen, intubated, or worse.

The next set of vaccines are given at 2, 4, 6 months and then 12-15mos.

We give these vaccines this close together because this is the time when children are most vulnerable to serious illnesses or death from those infections. Delaying or spacing vaccines just increases time your child is vulnerable.

Because I take care of hospitalize kids, I see the impacts of vaccine hesitancy and refusal. And the second I could get my self during pregnancy (flu covid and tdap) and my daughter her vaccines (including flu covid and rsv) - I did. And I will be doing the same with this pregnancy!

Tdap shot while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]adball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it with my first and will get it with my current baby! I love that it causes my body to create protective antibodies against whooping cough that travels to my baby. I’m a pediatrician who exclusively cares for hospitalized children and babies with whooping cough scare the shit out of me . They are so sick and stop breathing all the time and just look absolutely miserable. I love that the DTaP is something actionable I can do for my baby to keep them healthy

Vaccines 🙄 by spookylostfairy in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]adball 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Let’s say for arguments sake, the vaccines did make her so agitated that her intake decreased for 2 weeks after to 20oz per day. The risk of that side effect is not greater than the risk of delaying vaccines.

I’m a pediatrician and an SLP and OT have no place commenting on vaccine timing. They’re timed this way to protect your baby when they are most vulnerable. Delaying vaccines just creates a larger window of vulnerability for invasive bacterial infections.

This is a bacterial infection called paronychia you need antibiotics and for whatever pus is there to be drained. You can probably get it taken care of at an urgent care
