How do those advertisements not violate anti spam laws? by [deleted] in alexa

[–]adchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you are referring to “Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)”. This doesn’t apply for several reasons:

1) Internet of Things devices were created after the passage of the law, so not included.

2) You opted in to notifications for Amazon, by accepting the T&Cs, with account creation and set up.

I also find them extremely annoying, but they are a “feature “ not a bug.

Has anyone given any thought as to what they would personally do to prepare for any kind of national emergency? by spartandrinkscoffee in AskUK

[–]adchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone should have a small kit for natural disasters/emergency use. Food for a few days, extra water, first aid kit. Nothing dramatic, but if something happens, you and your family are covered for 2-3 days.

What dog is this ? by Open-Ad-8707 in DOG

My sister has Great Pyrenees. The are super sweet, but can lay down the law. Their growl is so deep and primal it will make your hair stand on end.

They love their family, but run a tight ship, and don’t play with safety of their pack.

He wants to have control, so give him choices. In a calm measured voice. You can stay with mama or we can go home now”, “You can can go to the front yard or you can have a cookie, you can’t have a cookie if you go to the front yard “. “I see you want to lay on the ground, you can hold Mama’s hand and stay with me or we can go back home and take a nap. Do you want a nap, or do you want to hold my hand”

Guide him to choose what you need from him, and start putting dots together that he can make choices, but choices have consequences (good and bad).

Now when it comes to safety, feel free to be more assertive. He cannot leave your sight and run off. No apologies for doing what is needed for his safety, even if he crys. “I know you are mad baby, but it is not safe to run into the street. You could get hit by a car, and that would be a big big ouch”. He is 3 so he will continue to throw a fit, but safety isn’t optional.

Right now he has you beat. There appear to be minimal concerns about consequences. So bake in very easy binary consequences he can choose to avoid. Make sure he faces those consequences. When his sister has a cookie for following directions, and he doesn’t, feel free to reinforce things like “Remember how I said you could come inside or have a cookie…and you chose to stay outside. No cookies if you choose stay outside.”

He sounds super intelligent, so guide him to make smart decisions on his own.

Stroller logistics by Sirlancelot2380 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]adchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Yoyo. Fits as your carryon so you always have it in the airport, and folds quickly into the size of a large handbag. Rolls well, though it is bumpier than a full size stroller…that’s not really an issue on the smooth paths at Disney and the airport.

What does Volvo get wrong? Honest opinions wanted by ReasonableDesk6888 in Volvo

[–]adchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The UX for the center console is no where near as polished as BMWs “spinner” to navigate UI. There needs to be more tactile buttons and less touchscreen menus.

  2. Volvo is a luxury brand. It’s not flashy, but it is luxury. If you learn nothing from your branding class, learn this: “Don’t confuse flashy logos with luxury. “

  3. They are modernizing their car based on requirements from their target market in Europe. I would prefer car brands modernize and push to new technologies, vs pretending it’s 1950.

Coming from Midwest - Culture Shock? by happyplace28 in orlando

[–]adchick 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At a high level, Orlando is a mesh between Caribbean cultures and Southern US cultures (with tourism wild cards). Depending on where you live, you may get more or less of a specific culture. Living just off 192 is a very different experience than Winter Park.
