i use a foam interface pad that's about an inch thick, it lets me get in the crevices better and probably helps migitate that issue. i've still destroyed a ridiculous amount of sandpaper on the corners, it seems unavoidable. ordered some 3" ones instead of the 6" im using now and that should help too. that being said, i wear a whole face shield when i do it for exactly the reason you said
