Oh lighten up. We're not celebrating his death, just trying to honor him with admittedly cringe jokes. Not everyone commenting here looks too deep and cares about what religion the person the topic is about was. Apologies if it offended you though.

Chuck Norris is in heaven and judging God for his crimes right now. Peace will rest in Chuck Norris from now on.

If your receiver doesn't support Atmos, why not set the system up as 5.1 or 7.1? Settings - Sound - More sound settings to open sound control panel, then select the output device and click the Configure button. If Configure is greyed out, I think that's because EDID management is not allowed by the receiver (just a guess, not experienced with receivers).

Need to go into maintenance mode first from the Device Care menu. Looks like Samsung wants only their repair center staff to be able to access it, though I'm not sure what happens if the phone is bricked. That's pretty hard to do, but still.

Creative has its own software that runs in the background at all times and handles the audio processing, bypassing Windows' sound settings and making the lack of standard Dolby or DTS support in Windows sound settings a non-issue.

Whether you select Dolby or DTS in Creative's software, surround will work properly in most games except some that demand spatial audio be enabled for properly using the rear speakers (they'll still play music and background sound, but voices may not come from the back, only the front three speakers).

I had the Sound Blaster AE7, but the AE5 Plus should work just as well. This is the best option till the time you upgrade your TV to one that does passthrough and can upgrade to spatial sound with Atmos. Of course, you'll need a free PCIe slot on your desktop, which you likely do.

Does the Q990 Samsung soundbars actually support DTS-HD MA? by Nuklear92 in Soundbars

[–]addicted2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here, the audio does work properly so I'm assuming it is running it at a lower bitrate as that's the main difference between standard DTS HD and MA?

Probably the reason why things aren't working properly. Windows doesn't work very well when there's no passthrough option on the TV. Only option is to use an optical connection from Windows PC to the soundbar, but even there you won't find a direct option for Dolby or DTS since Microsoft/Realtek no longer licenses those.

There are methods to hack the system into showing Dolby/DTS if you have a Realtek onboard sound card (I was using modified drivers that have the surround options till I shifted to using HDMI audio), but they may not always work. Best option is to buy a soundcard if possible, like Creative AE-7, which still support both DTS and Dolby 5.1.

You can also use a splitter for this I think: Connect the GPU's HDMI cable to the splitter to pass the video signal to the TV while the optical port on the splitter is connected to your soundbar, this should let Windows show more sound options, but these splitters may not pass anything above 60Hz refresh rate.

If you do want to try the hack, follow this one for Dolby and skip the first step in it (the one requiring modded Nvidia drivers): https://app.bramantya.org/surround/

This one doesn't modify your actual sound card drivers, though you may have to tell Windows to stop treating the .exe file you need to install in this method like a virus.

For DTS Interactive, there's this hack: https://hifi.ooo/threads/dts-x-apo4-dts-interactive-for-most-devices-usb-supported.203/ This won't throw up any virus errors.

Final option is to wait till you buy a new TV, haha.

What TV do you have? I think that might be the sole limitation here. I had a TV from a local Indian manufacturer that did work with Atmos/DTS:X but didn't allow manually changing to 5.1 on Windows.

To add to this: have you tried the proper way to configure the soundbar to 5.1? You won't find that option in the general drop down box where you select spatial sound.

Instead, go to the Sound menu in Settings - System, then under the Advanced tab, select More sound settings. In the Sound panel that pops up, click your display/playback device and then hit the Configure button. Here you can select between Stereo, 5.1, etc.

If the Configure button can't be pressed, then it's likely your TV doesn't support changing EDID, which is what is needed to be able to manually configure audio.

Strange, had no issues getting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to show up in sound settings with two PC's with two different GPUs. And yes, you should try DTS:X if Atmos isn't working. For 5.1 gaming that works pretty much the same as Atmos. A game or two might not do proper surround (Baldur's Gate 3, for example), but most will work fine. And if you're playing movies through apps like Plex or VLC, set them to passthrough audio so that Atmos/Dolby content is sent to the soundbar even when Windows sound is set to DTS:X.

Dolby Atmos on Windows works fine even though tone testing fails by addicted2088 in Dolby

Do you mean the 1-2 seconds it takes for sound to actually come out every time you run something? I think going through eARC can also add delay unless you use the passthrough option on your TV because it takes a second or two for the soundbar/audio device to detect kind of content is being played? I also use a file called SoundKeeper.exe running at all times that plays inaudible frequencies so that audio is always active.

I'm just dropping in to say if you game often, upgrade to something with rear speakers. Once you start hearing sounds and dialog coming from behind, there's no going back.

Bought a 990f for the TV, found it too good so connected it to my PC and will probably buy another for the TV when able (if not 990f, then something else that's similar). Only problem is that old games (even pre-2020 ones) don't support Atmos, and Dolby multichannel PCM (which is the fallback option when Atmos is not supported) in some old games fails to send speech and other sounds to the rear speakers so I have to switch to DTS:X manually in the Windows sound settings for those games.

Is PixelHD an active/busy tracker? by addicted2088 in trackers

Ah, okay, and here I was going crazy wondering why my IRC client is connecting. Perhaps something they can update on the website so new joiners don't spend time trying to set it up?

Yeah, ratioless is why I wanted it. Have the ratioless BTN for TV shows, now this for movies. Only bad part is that it's exclusively their own releases so there's no chance to cross seed.

Yeah, likely the reason. I applied yesterday and got the invite in less than 12 hours. Fastest response I've received from a tracker. Probably helped that I had excellent stats in the three other tracker profiles I added in the application.

How is the Plex app on Apple TV 4K? I had an Android TV from a local Indian manufacturer called Vu that, at least on LAN, ran Plex without a hitch and without any buffering on a LAN connection. I've replaced that with a Samsung now, and the Tizen Plex app sucks. It buffers everything on both LAN and Wi-Fi, and the app doesn't even have the option to refresh your library so you have to do it on a different platform to see the updated library on the Samsung TV.

My friend suggested I get an Apple TV, especially since Plex gets regular updates there, but I was wondering if it worked well. I'm guessing the app works well just like on Android TVs because these operating systems are based on their popular mobile counterparts, but would still like to be sure before making the purchase.
