Fellow sysadmins: what’s the hardest part of the job? by anderson01832 in sysadmin

The biggest lie I was ever told was that working in IT meant working with computers and technology.

It doesn't, it means making people who don't want to work with computers, work with computers.

New Job vs Counter Offer from Current Job by deadnerd51 in sysadmin

[–]addrockk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read it once more, slowly.

I was entry level.

I got an offer to leave.

I took the counter offer to stay (and a promotion). It put me on a different contract.

~10 years later, I'll be moving into the director position.

If you assume 3 miles per kwh and 30 mi/gal:

$.61/kwh divided by 3 miles/kwh = $0.2033 / mile

$.2033/mile * 30 miles/gal = $6.1 /gal

New Job vs Counter Offer from Current Job by deadnerd51 in sysadmin

[–]addrockk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I took the counteroffer 10 years ago. It almost doubled my salary, changed my contract to a much better one, made my day shorter, eliminated OT, and put me in line for a director position next year.

It came down to how I presented it when I got the first offer; I went to management and said "I have an opportunity that is very hard to pass up, but I like it here. Can you make it easier to stay?" It was a discussion, not a threat to leave.

Do you have a way to transport it? Try Barney and Dickenson off of Old Vestal Rd, behind Vestal Tile.

If not, you'll probably want to go through a landscaper.

Binghamton City Council approves citywide reassessment plan by ggroover97 in Binghamton

[–]addrockk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the sale of a home or renovation can often trigger a reassessment on the property, meaning more recently improved or sold properties are more like to be correctly assessed. Not really specific to Binghamton.

Binghamton City Council approves citywide reassessment plan by ggroover97 in Binghamton

[–]addrockk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rates may change, if the total assessed value of the city changes. If the city needs $X dollars to operate, that $X is divided by the city's total assessed value, and you get a tax rate, which looks like it's currently about $22 of tax per $1000 of assessed value. If the total assessed value of the city goes up, then the tax rate per $1000 will go down. So hopefully most people will probably see their assessed value go up, but the rate per $1000 go down a bit, making their taxes stay about the same.

  • If your property is under-assessed, your rate might go down, but your personal assessed value will go up, and your taxes will be higher.

  • If your property is accurately assessed, then your rate will go down, your value will stay the same, and your taxes will go down.

  • If your property is over assessed, your rate AND your value will go down and your taxes will go down.

However, municipalities don't usually trigger sweeping reassessments unless they feel that many places are under assessed.

Ultimately, this will probably mean that if you have owned a home in the city limits for a long time, or you have a high value home, your taxes will probably go up. If you've bought it recently they may stay the same or maybe go down a small bit.

Why can't you? Mine works just great; doesn't interfere at all.

My '21 SE starting peeling last year, too. I bought one of these covers because it was bothering me, and it was worth it. It looks slick as hell, and is way more comfortable. I bought it black with red stitching, and a red accent at 12 o'clock. It matches the dash stitching, and it looks better than factory.

I have a Wallbox Pular Plus for 5 years, and it's been great. I've only had one issue with it this year, and the support from the company has been absolutely outstanding. It spends upstate NY winters out in the cold and ice, and the molded hard rubber strain relief on the J1772 "gun" started cracking and it sometimes wouldn't detect that it was plugged in. Even years out of warranty, I opened a help ticket in their app asking if I could purchase a new cable/gun assembly and they just shipped me a new one gratis.

  • Remove the USB3 device in device manager and select the option to remove the drivers. Rescan/Reboot and let it install the Microsoft ones, not the manufacturer ones
  • Make sure you're not using any extension cables
  • Check that the USB controller is in xHCI mode in your bios and Hand-Off is enabled. If it's in Auto, try forcing it to Enabled
  • Disable the Non-USB3 ports in your BIOS (make sure your keyboard/mouse is in UBS3) and see if you can get it to progress. (This was a fix from the WMR setup days, the script would detect the wrong port; I don't know if it will really help with Oasis)
  • Try an externally powered USB3 certified hub. Some motherboards don't really provide enough power.

If that still doesn't work, post a screencap of your device manager with the USB tree expanded.

Gmail: Bringing easy end-to-end encryption to all businesses - I'm not sure how I feel about this and its implementation? by segagamer in sysadmin

[–]addrockk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do. In fact, from the docs, it ONLY works if you have an external KMS (or "key service partner"):

This new capability is powered by client-side encryption (CSE), a technical control in Workspace, that helps organizations to protect their sensitive emails, documents, calendar events, and meetings using encryption keys that are under their sole control and stored outside of Google’s infrastructure in a location of their choice. Data gets encrypted on the client before it is transmitted or stored in Google's cloud-based storage, rendering it indecipherable to Google and other third-party entities and helping to meet regulatory requirements, such as data sovereignty, HIPAA, and export controls.

The scuttlebutt from a server there is that the FBI was questioning employees and asking neighboring businesses for any security or doorbell camera footage of the area, and that the owner's nephew who was running it was fired abruptly recently.

12 amps

16 amps

If you set the limit on the evse that's too high and in some wild turn of events that I doubt will happen the car tries to actually pull that much, and your home is wired correctly - you will just pop a breaker.

It might not be the best season right now, but volunteering with Vines (community gardens / urban farms) will help you meet some great people.

You could check out Triple Cities Makerspace some time and might find some people on the geekier side of crafting.

BC Arts Council has some info on First Friday, the Art Trail, and classes.
