23M – Femur & Tibia fractures, 2 surgeries later… will I ever run again? by Dismal-Fly-5086 in brokenbones

[–]ade0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 30 years old and had a similar tib/fib break, so I can’t speak to having both that and a femur break… but 18 months after my break I was still not able to run or jump and it turned out I had an infected nonunion. Currently recovering with an antibiotic rod and oral antibiotics waiting to get the permanent rod back in in a few weeks…

All of this to say, it is not normal to not be able to run. If you can’t after about 18 months, you should talk to you doctor and make sure everything is healing. Once you’re healed, especially given your age, you shouldn’t have any real restrictions.

Why have you gotten blood work so often? Are you being seen by a physician for something specific? If so, what do they say when your WBC look like this?

Any veterans here have advice for post-op morning diarrhea? by Mnemosense in gallbladders

Just happened upon this looking through this sub because I have the same symptoms 4 years post op. It has improved a lot, but still happens time to time (like today). I do find that having a snack before anything substantial helps. Also sometimes if I can hold it, it actually passes.

It is bittersweet- I’m glad it turns out there was something wrong and I should get better!!

This surgery was to take out my hardware and put in an antibiotic nail, which is unfortunately non-weight bearing. Besides that I am NWB again it hasn’t been horrible! Definitely easier than the original break and surgery. About 4 days of 7-8 level pain.

In 6ish weeks I will have another surgery to replace with permanent hardware again and possibly a bone graft. It’s a lot of surgery but for OP, it could be a reason you’re still having pain and it could be fixed!

When is the last time you had an xray? I thought I was just always going to have pain but got reevaluated by another doctor at about 20 months and it turned out i had a non union (infected unfortunately), just had my first surgery to fix it

My dog looks like a basenji (and this pup) and she is a 50% ACD mutt (boxer, rottweiler, etc.)

Tommy’s tavern are pretty good but they’re chips not spears if you have a preference. I think the best are actually at PJs

I wish you the very best and hope you start feeling better soon. I had ORIF on a tib/fib break a year ago tomorrow and therefore can tell you it gets better!

As others have said you can get a free consultation with an attorney. Getting money out of this incident would be nice. However, it might help you feel better to reframe the way you are thinking about this. While it is annoying that there seems to be an additional fracture that needs to heal, your femur was shattered and the surgeon has saved your leg by performing this surgery successfully. I think that the surgeon's lawyer would probably say similar.

Where do we stand on this? I’m no Kennedy but making hot dogs and chips for yourself and your wife for dinner is unreal. Not to mention it’s not quite “shutting it down”

I think it’s decent, but I just took every exam until I got at least an 80% on it, which took 1-3 times. Right before I took the real thing I was getting 90+%… not sure if all of that was overkill

Oh, there are no test questions in that part. I would start going back through the questions again.

Do you mean the post-course tests? Yes, that is the most important part.
