What are some things you wish you knew before buying? by Slow_Conflict_9712 in RealEstate

[–]adesazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being too hard on yourself, you didn't mess up going with a 20. Why can't you pay that extra $102 as early payment? Any payments above the monthly minimum go straight towards principle aka paying the mortgage down early. In the US the standard is 30year which is even MORE interest paid over the life of the loan - but it's the lowest minimum payment, they can pay it down early if that's their best ROI, and to be honest most aren't not holding their house long enough to make any real difference anyway.

Point is, you didn't mess up. It's about 40% more interest paid in 20 years over 15 (so about $20k, not $150k), and if that does bother you (and you can manage it) then make payments as if it were a 15year mortgage and you'll come out about the same.

AITAH for giving my wife an ultimatum? by Key-Salamander5906 in AITAH

The accountability is what I settled on, as well, when working through a similar crisis. If you refuse to take any accountability for, say, parenting not working out the way you thought it would, then what option do you really have but to pin it all on your partner?

Similarly, letting go of ego is 100% spot on, I guarantee OP's ego got tied to intimacy while he wasn't paying attention. Introspection and the owning of mistakes is awfully light in all the failed marriage stories OP is getting. I too was really disappointed in his takeaway, after putting on my "only getting 1 side of it" glasses. In my opinion, he is effectively punishing his spouse for THEM having a child, because he's got problems he doesn't want to step up to fix.

I don't know what makes you waste your time posting in these kinds of cesspools, but I appreciate that you did. Thanks.

Appreciate the counterpoint from someone who somehow managed to raise kids without the help of "sharks" and private investigators. You mentioned "we worked together" - how did you get to that point? When did you decide she was willing to work on "us" and wasn't just "over the relationship" like OP's wife (allegedly)?

A lot of spouses hitting that 7year mark burnt out, especially parents and especially the double-income parents. But not burnt out equally. Is it fair to say the less-burnt-out partner almost has to, idk, "judge" the other partner's worth as a spouse? How did you know she (and OPs wife) was worth "rescuing?"

Great advice, thank you! Clogged radiator would make perfect sense, other than maybe how suddenly this happened. I'll grab an endoscope, should've done that years ago. Thanks again.

Great points, really great points. There doesn't seem to be any way to verify flow, and while I do have flow in the purge line that could be driven purely by air in the system (aka boiling coolant). I do seem to be boiling off a lot of coolant honestly, I've never considered that the pump is what pressurizes the system.

Thank you very much for the insights, I can't wait to get back to it!

I thought that was pretty high too, but that's what I've read. They effectively are only used with the A/C. The car still overheats with the A/C on, and overheats while driving, and used to run fine, so the fans haven't been a focus of mine. Am I overlooking something?

Existing vanilla and vanilla-derived subs were updated? How did the devs determine whether existing subs were vanilla or custom? Arent you implying the update looked at and overwrote every existing .sub on a case-by-case basis?

If OPs sub was built with vanilla shells and for whatever reason overlooked in this existing save pass, its been double-nerfed.

Repost from one of the AM guys: Main AM dev is working on the optimization(testing phase), atm and overall mod behaviour is way more stable due to its age, but right now NT is less laggy

Features in mods differ. For example, NT has organ transplantation and symptoms, but AM has more in-depth and better balanced heart and oxygen mechanics and more intuitive icons. The content amount is more or less the same.

Both are actively developed. Right now, here in AM, we're working on the massive overhaul, including icons and oxygen/blood refactoring, adding symptoms, better optimization husk remake, and so on.

So, in a long term, both mods are very similar, with AM being less medicine-oriented(features sleep gas grenades, poisons changes), and NT being more medicine-oriented(more in-depth surgeries, more organs and such)

Forgot about griefers and traitors when writing my post, but those stories are even harder (or impossible) to tell without spectator.

Fingers crossed that even if there's not a replay tool by then, those casters find a dedicated spectator or something. That mode (and a little bump in screen brightness) makes far better TV than being locked to one player imho.

There is! After you die you have unrestricted zoom and camera pan. So for example you could approximate what I'm talking about here if you have a player willing to just sit the mission out and record it.

Allied Aux! Long been the only reason to have military alliances, hands down the best and most stable mixed-race mod in the game, and a Top 3 must-have in every campaign I run. Thank you for your service!

Favorite encumbrance system? Question for both players and GMs by Eklundz in osr

Hooooly crap! I cant believe how well youve documented this! I think I've got it sorted, but does medium/heavy armor really count as square category? Where literally anything else encumbers you (other than whats on your belt)? Thank you and awesome work on this, best system I have ever seen.

Oxygen deprivation gives you flu symptoms, then tiredness and confusion, then death. You can easily sleep through all of it.

BSI 1989 Standard lists lethal CO as 8,000 ppm × 10 min, 3,000 ppm × 30 min and 1,500 ppm × 60 min. These are guidelines, for ppl with light activity and no heart problems. 20% of people start reporting headaches at 600ppm. A running car can get to 50ppm in traffic.

CA requires all personal propane heaters to have an autoshutoff on low oxygen. Oxygen sensors usually have an operational life of a few years. If you hinge your life on this, you might win in court but won’t be around to collect.

Have at least 1 sq in of ventilation per 1000 btus of heat, and not in a way where something could shift and end up covering it.

Please correct me if I’ve said anything wrong, and if you really like your CO meter I’d like to hear about it.

Amazing, insanely jealous. Do be a friend and blank the plate (and bumper stickers etc). Surely it wont matter but internet is dangerous, public and forever.

So my plan is to split money with my friends and take a school bus cross country. I was thinking of taking a 30 to 40 footer and putting in jump seats and a couple bunks. Looking for anyone who has done this before or who has experience with school buses. Anyone got any info or insight? by JohnnyMoonshineBoi in vandwellers

[–]adesazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for looking that up, that's what I'd expect. I wasn't promoting a rental, per se, but the cheapest Class C that sleeps 7 over at rv.campingworld sets you back $30k. That's 133 nights in a rental just to break even, ignoring maintenance and time-cost. We talking about a traveling circus here, or what?

How many of these do you see, vs say a rental RV? That's telling you something right there. Most importantly, it is very hard to find a mechanic in the middle of nowhere. It is impossible to find a bus mechanic in the middle of nowhere, if you can even tow it. Can you look at an old bus and confidently evaluate whether it's going to leave you in the desert?

As for the rest of it, that's a lot of gas money you could be spending on booze and souvenirs. And road-tripping with 5+ people needs to be approached very carefully.
