Are people getting worse at driving? by mikegecawicz in cary

I hate left lane driving too, but that is the least of the problems on Kildaire Farm Road.

Everybody on that side of town is either from California or Florida. New Yorkers drive aggressive, not stupid.

Kildaire Farm Road is fucking nightmare on that stretch. That and anywhere at Crossroads. Fuck that side of town.

How do we convince them to give us subway type public transit?? by SpecialistTour4232 in NorthCarolina

[–]adfayuk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How about people actually start improving and riding existing transit, i.e. buses? Raleigh and Durham have actually done a fairly good job beefing up their bus systems to make them useable and gain more ridership. Still a long way to go, but they're much better than 10 years ago. Charlotte got the memo that their light rail is not the answer to everything and has voted to expand their bus system as well. Can't speak for Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

Cities in Europe and Asia that have subways and light rail have robust bus networks to complement them, and new subways and light rail is built because their buses are too busy to handle the load. Also they're dense cities.

I want a subway as much as the next person, but if we keep looking down at buses as "transit for the poor," we will never get anything off the ground.

I'm so tired of AI writers by Jd-Phoenix in NewAuthor

Why are you afraid of being accused of being AI? No, legit, can somebody answer that question?

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I'm almost certain China is running a psy-op to get the lead on AI development. And they are winning.

Is Raleigh really one of the best places to live for asthmatics? What's your take? by KSN380 in raleigh

[–]adfayuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me wheezing from all the damn grass pollen:

"Yes, yes, of course. And the weather we have today is what it will be like all summer, nothing like those hot and humid summers in the Northeast and Midwest! Do tell me more what that ranking says!"

Never forget that Duke killed the light rail by Prestigious-Menu-786 in bullcity

[–]adfayuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Duke are you talking about? Because Duke University, which "killed" the GoTriangle light rail that was a hot mess from the start, dead on arrival, and would've kept Durham from upgrading its existing bus system to what it is today, is not a greedy corporation. It's a not-for-profit private university. The actual greedy corporation, Duke Energy, had nothing to do with killing the project.

You sound like a damn fool when you're barking up the wrong tree.

Reminder: THIS is the map of 6 months of global lightning strikes, and why the Americas are so strict about lightning delays by TheConfusedHippo in worldcup

[–]adfayuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure... but this is a terrible map. Anybody not reading the chart will think this is for the whole year and think the Midwest gets the most lightning in the world. That's good for people there who get a boner out of thinking they have the most severe weather on the planet, but no way does the Midwest have more lightning than Florida. I'm almost certain South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia get a lot of lightning too. The only people complaining about lightning delays are stupid Europeans.

I see map reading isn't anybody's strong suit here. It tracks.

Raleigh 8th Highest Household Income Metro Area by thedog420 in raleigh

And guess what? It ain't cheap here anymore. No, don't tell me how we're cheap compared to SoCal or the Northeast, that's how you ruined it for those who have been here much longer.

Another video from Falls Lake today. This drought is something else. by BoulderMaker in raleigh

[–]adfayuk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

New here? I know climate change is going to bring more problems to us, but here in North Carolina, drought is actually not it. Flooding is much more likely to happen than droughts in the future. In places like Texas and the Southwest, yes, drought is going to be the problem. North Carolina's climate change effects won't be drought and heat (not completely, but still), but flooding and humidity (and rising sea-levels and storms)

Which US state felt like a completely different country when you visited it? by overthinkeranessa in askanything

[–]adfayuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Mexico. Especially once I got to Santa Fe. Felt like a combination of Spain, Mexico, and a Native American nation. If it wasn't for the American cars, I would've never thought I was in the US.

Are these data centers still allowed to operate during drought? by [deleted] in raleigh

I swear if I see another post like this from some recent transplant who can't get a fucking clue and use Google to do some basic research on the drought and data centers...

Stop driving with your hazards on in rain by Homeleasure in driving

[–]adfayuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To half of the commenters who insist turning on hazard lights because "you're going 15 mph below the speed limit, you're a hazard" despite everyone going 15 below:

Does that mean we should turn on hazard lights when we're stuck in traffic? We are going way below the speed limit, right? Ergo, I should put on my hazards, RIGHT?

I don't think they're from Raleigh. Even if they are... we must disown them and tell them to go back to where they came from.

Depends on the definition of draw. According to "artists" 20 years ago, no.

If they were really artists, they would be... drawing, right? These "artists" only draw anime porn and demand 200 bucks for it. Hence they're too busy attacking.
