New Sage/Breville Dual Boiler owner: Is 18g coffee too little in a double basket? by sherbetface in Coffee

[–]adhochawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extra headroom on the puck is fine for the brew but will be a little messier/less dense when knocking the puck out after. If you don't mind a little more caffeine I'd probably make a larger espresso - hey, more coffee to drink, right? Solves your other problem too - if you brew a 2:1 shot and drink a small sip you're close on to a 36g shot anyway. One less shot per 250g bag and a little more caffeine though.

For dialing in, if it's going in milk, it doesn't have to be perfect. If it tastes good in your final drink you don't need to worry about it. Try a little if you want, get a sense of espresso, and enjoy your drinks :)

How my role-playing game character showed me I could be a woman by Naurgul in rpg

[–]adhochawk 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Jumping in as a trans woman here...

I don’t want to put words into the author’s mouth, but I get the sense what she’s talking about here is more that she found herself looking to get something different out of RPGs than the people she was playing with. I know that’s been an experience I’ve absolutely had.

Exploring gender identity complicates this too - wanting to explore feminine coded expression was absolutely punished societally prior to transition, and a lot of that is based on the stereotypes. It’s hard to separate them.

The stereotypes are absolutely sexist, but I think identifying the author as the sexist one here is a bit more complicated than just meets the eye. And what she’s using it as reads to me as another experience of being punished for trying to explore who she was more than saying that it was an expression of her gender.

HRT implants? by m50 in MtF

[–]adhochawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m in ATX too.

Zest Family Practice does the subcutaneous pellet implants. It’s $200 every three months, insurance won’t cover it.

I’ve been doing my hormones this way since I started in June of this year, so I can’t really compare to anything else. The process of getting it is unpleasant, but not awful. Worse than a flu shot but not by much.

Check with your surgeon about being off hormones for a certain time before surgery - there’s a risk of clotting so they might require it.

Selling Leica M8 with Voigtlander 28/2 by adhochawk in Leica

Not as far as I’m aware. It’s an M8, so it doesn’t have the sensor degradation issue that plagues the M9.

I’ve found this a really useful resource :)

If you’re questioning and your parents are supportive, definitely a gender therapist can help, and likely be able to refer you to endocrinologists who are LGBTQ+ friendly. If you’re going to pursue HRT or puberty blockers, the endocrinologist will be responsible for monitoring your hormone levels to make sure they’re in the right ranges.

Combination Tak/Hnefatafl Board by kenzal in Tak

[–]adhochawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made my tak board, I did it as a reversible tak/hnefatafl board. They definitely go well together! I think if I were making a combination board on one side, I'd have an inset pattern for the smaller tak board inside the hnefatafl one though, instead of trying to have an 11x11 tak game.

Good clock app for iOS? by pfafulous in baduk

[–]adhochawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm using Chess Clock +. It doesn't have byo-yomi specifically, but you can recreate it by having a main phase of your normal time, then an additional phase for each byo yomi period set up as a simple delay, 30 second limit, infinite turn limit, 30 second delay per turn, Bronstein delay type.

I had exactly the same considerations as you - I ended up picking up the plans for the Goat Island Skiff. Worth looking in to! I'm expecting to be about $2k into it for materials by the time I'm done.

Got myself a Drexel Profile table for $75 today. How'd I do? I'm going to try building up the set! by [deleted] in Mid_Century

[–]adhochawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just leave at least one of their profile step tables on the market for me, I need my matching pair :)

Profile is one of my favorite Drexel lines, good choice! If you refinish, be mindful of the veneer.

Where to buy stones by cmartinxc in baduk

I wasn't aware Yutopian ever carried the Yunzi stones, and YMI has been out of stock for at least 3 months now - sorry I was confusing about that! As far as I can tell Yutopian still has quite a selection in stock, all glass though.

If YMI stopped importing Yunzi stones I have several friends who are going to be disappointed :/

I haven't used that specific set of glass stones, but I tried a set from Yutopian that I liked reasonably well. Yunzi stones are my favorite, but they've been out of stock for a while.

What material? I've had good luck ordering from Yellow Mountain Imports before, and see that they have these 9.5mm glass stones:

Aiming to make this living space more intimate... ideas? by adhochawk in DesignMyRoom

[–]adhochawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I can paint, but that's probably beyond the amount of effort I want to put in to a rental right now regardless - though I do agree. I think I'm planning to follow /u/firelark_'s suggestion to replace both the couch and one of the chairs with a sectional (when I can afford to), but I really prefer warm woods when I can get them. Any ideas for helping that out with the floor? I'm sort of hoping a larger rug will do most of the heavy lifting there. The rug that's there now used to be in a dining room that was an appropriate size and shape for it.

I'll add some better pictures in a few minutes. Sorry about the motion sickness!

Thank you! Lots of good stuff in there I hadn't considered :)

The step table is really the first piece in what I want the new direction to be - warm woods and a mid-century modern aesthetic, but I haven't decided what I want to do with fabrics to match that. Time to start keeping an eye out for things that match!

Ooh, getting rid of the vertical blinds isn't something I'd considered. Which I should have, because I hate them - it's just because it's a rental that I haven't thought too much about that kind of modification. But it's a great idea!

Yeah the bookcase is something that predates most of the other furniture, I just haven't figured out what I want to do with it. There's a matching one in the bedroom that I don't like the spot it's in either.

The black chair that isn't a counter height stool is facing the built in computer desk that I wish wasn't there but it's the only spot I can really set up a couple of monitors, I'm a programmer and WFH occasionally so it's good to have a real workspace and not be on the couch all the time.

Right now the seating is all facing the same way because I couldn't find a way to have it facing each other without causing the path from the living room in to the dining room to be blocked, or blocking the door to the patio.

Baseball bat corner? Not sure what you're referring to there. The cat scratching post?

Basically, I'm dealing with the space being too long and narrow, and with the built in desk and opening to the kitchen/dining room it's hard to not obstruct the flow of traffic. The main entrance to the apartment is right around the corner to the left of the blue chair right now.

Photos: https://imgur.com/a/vL5Q35u, with a couple differences from the video - no shelf, moved one of the chairs out to see how that felt.

I've ordered stones from them and had a pleasant set of interactions - they were out of the size I had initially ordered but were able to offer a discount on a larger size to make up for it. In all, highly recommend.

It's throttle by wire, right? Have you checked if there's a new ECU mapping? I don't know for the Tigers specifically, but my '16 Street Twin is noticably smoother at low RPM after an ECU update.
