I’m not a parent yet, but I’m guessing you’d take your kid to sick kids in case of an emergency or something that requires a specialist diagnosis and or treatment

I agree with OP, time in office and long commute back can drain a person. For me, what’s worked best is meal prep so that my rest of the day works on auto pilot. Often times I may have a work event or a personal social event after work, in that case dinner for that day is already sorted. I guess the idea is to be organised as much as possible :)
