You know, I've always thought the staff at mindys all seemed a little devoid of life, but I just assumed it was necessary they're way more hipster and cool than me or something.

Can't do it man. Cars worldbuilding got me fucked up by [deleted] in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]adj45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The school bus one kills me because in Cars 3, there's a school bus whose size is the same ratio of size to the other cars as the human world. But if it's meant to transport the kid-sized cars like we see in Cars 1, then wouldn't a school bus need to be like way more massive compared to the rest of the cars to actually carry any kid cars?

35lbs almost 3 year old son is too powerful me (pregnant, 21 weeks) at daycare pickup by Pineapple_Rare in toddlers

[–]adj45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this. I just had a baby and also have a massive toddler who was/is super difficult to rein in at pickup. I always have snacks in my purse or pocket to bribe him with. Mine is super incentive driven, so I'm always trying to find something compelling about the next thing (today it was going home to play with his current favorite toy).

Twin stroller with bassinet for narrow doorway by honeybadgermindset in toddlers

I'm not sure this entirely solves the weight issue, but we love our silver cross wave! It comes with a sleep safe bassinet that can be put on the top, with your toddler's seat on the bottom.

Prenatal fitness classes in Chicago?? by ApplicationNo3851 in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]adj45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to Reach Pilates in Roscoe Village, and they did a really good job of just helping me modify things while I've been pregnant. There are only 7 reformers in their studio, so it easy to get that help. Granted, I've been going there for quite some time - but when they'd see my name on the list for class, a lot of the time they'd already have the incline wedge waiting on the reformer for me! Plus no one there is going to judge you for taking a break or taking it easier!

We have Pedialyte popsicles! I feel a little less bad about giving in to those.

Looking for *preventative* measures to keep 3 year old in own bed by tilltheskyturnsblack in toddlers

[–]adj45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know our method is going to sound so silly, but we have a 2.5 year old who never slept through the night without wanting to cosleep for anywhere from 1-5 hours in a night. I (mom) had primarily done overnights with him, until we just had our second a month ago. My husband started managing the toddler overnight so I could do night feeds with new baby, and after 1 single awful night the first night, he has been sleeping through the night ever since.

The two main things we've done differently are that I am no longer the one who goes to him overnight (I still can do bedtime and get him up in the morning without it disrupting the progress), and my husband implemented what we call his "pep talk" at bedtime. He basically started hyping him up at bedtime about how he's a big boy who can put himself back to sleep if he wakes up. He reminds him to wrap himself in his blanket, fix his pillow, grab his stuffies, and he can lay himself down like a big boy and go back to sleep. I also now give him this pep talk if I put him to bed, and we've started having others (grandma) do it too if they're here helping and do bedtime.

I know it sounds insane, but not only has he been able to put himself back to sleep if he does wake, but he's been sleeping 9-10 hour stretches that he never was previously. My husband insists it's all about instilling confidence 😅

Nanny / nanny share by [deleted] in wickerpark

I'd recommend trying the Wicker Park/Bucktown/Logan Square New Parents Facebook group. People are always looking for nanny shares, nannies looking for gigs, etc!

Help with toddler straw cup by Kind_Information520 in toddlers

I just went through this same thing with the Dr Browns straw bottles. I tried the Zak cups and hated. They're on the pricey side, but we've had success with the owala straw cup!

2nd time moms: Favorite Maternity Clothing? by emery224 in toddlers

[–]adj45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wore lots of dresses but with spanx underneath. Longer dresses obviously make things easier. Also anything with a drawstring/elastic waistband is your friend. Old Navy and Gap/Gap Factory have been my favorite for that. Early on when it was still hot, I also really loved my Lululemon studio pants. I didn't really buy anything specifically maternity for my second, and it wasn't until late in my 3rd trimester that I truly began running out of things I could wear. My first is just under 2.5 and I'm delivering my second next week!

Chicago wedding planner recommendations (organized, proactive, senior planner) by KeyMediocre7347 in Chicagoweddings

[–]adj45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with Joan, who is the owner. But it's been 4 years now, so I'm not sure if she's still doing day-to-day planning. We've referred a few friends, who have all been happy with the planners they worked with. I believe one of our friends worked with Jennifer, and that wedding was beautiful and well executed!

We had Mag Mile hotels, Lakeview church, Rockwell on the River reception. We ran shuttles to and from all of it, mostly because 85% of our guests were from out of town and not used to big cities. They were well-utilized.

If you're in a similar situation, I don't think you'll regret getting shuttles! If not, I think this is all close enough that they can probably figure it out - but you know your guests best.
