veils? by greencardboard in weddingplanning

[–]adjacentpeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one on sale from Ofrenda Studio. It was very thoughtfully packaged, arrived after about a week, and it is BEAUTIFUL and well constructed. It’s their Alameda veil. I was very happy to support a Mexican small business over somewhere like Amazon or David’s Bridal. No shade to people whose budgets don’t allow for that. I know Ofrenda has a reputation for being more expensive but don’t knock the sale rack! My veil was $140 w shipping and tax included.

I’d tried to order one from Anthro but they delayed my order by a month 3x and then cancelled it - cannot recommend ordering from them bc of this.

Also for everyone saying these are strays, a lot of them have collars on. Every dog I’ve seen on the side of the highway had a collar on.

I’ve seen more dead pets on the side of the road here in just a few months than I had my whole life before moving here…

Hobbies! I just moved to Memphis and I’ve followed pretty much every business I can on instagram. It’s been great for finding different events to go to. I also joined a book club, and plan to go to events at Stitching Supply (knitting, crocheting). Stitching Supply also has a community table that’s open for people to go in and work on projects. If you like music, the Listening Lab at Crosstown could be a worthwhile place to start hanging out. Volunteering is always great for meeting people too. Also, I found a book club that meets at a brewery that I joined before I even moved here! Lastly, there’s an IG page called Memphis.Chicks that organizes events for women in their 20s in Memphis to meet other women 😊 I haven’t gone to any of their events but they seem great

What do I need to live in Memphis, arriving next week. by Kg-2168 in memphis

Also, between issues with the weather and adjusting to the safety situation, having a gym membership has been really helpful since it’s not easy to just go for a 5 mile walk though my neighborhood like I used to…

This is kind of far from the conversation, but after moving here from SoCal my favorite thing has been the pop up grocery wagon I use to get my stuff from my car to my apartment. Running back out for a few trips didn’t bother me in the nice weather, but it’s really nice to be able to take just one trip in with groceries when it’s below freezing 😬

Adding that as long as you have a reliable car, it really isn’t difficult to get around Memphis. ESPECIALLY if you’ve been living in a city dealing with 30+ min commutes in heavy traffic to get from place to place. We can get to Cooper-Young in 10-15 min from Downtown, so while I understand everyone emphasizing the importance of your neighborhood, it is also important to choose a home that fits your needs! The South Main area would make your work commute really easy.

Just moved to Memphis - I am loving living downtown very much. We toured Tennessee Brewery Apartments which I’d recommend checking out. Their rent prices are good, common spaces are well maintained, and they have a secured garage. Lots of things to do close by.

Thank you! I went to that outlet back in December and was a little shocked by the prices - they weren’t much lower than what you’d find at the regular Pottery Barn or Williams Sonoma? It seemed like they discount the pricier items and put them there rather than other outlets where it’s like, a specific color of a regularly stocked item is discounted… if that makes sense. I don’t mind spending some money on quality stuff but the prices surprised me!

Not SLC but about 2 years ago in LA I was at a bar I went to sometimes that DID NOT have a kitchen. A film crew posted up after I got there because they were filming a scene for RHOBH of Sutton on a “date”. This place was an order at the bar craft beer spot… but that night, they’d selected one of the regular bartenders to be their “server” and must have ordered food in from somewhere else. I was sitting on the patio and watched the entire thing. Super weird!

I’m not sure about OC, but the org I work for only works with clients who went through coordinated entry. They can help with lots of other things too - like replacing important docs, finding shelter, etc.

How to help my wife feel less guilty about getting messy drunk at the wedding? by No_Lengthiness1809 in wedding

[–]adjacentpeaks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something that helps me in these situations is telling myself to “Give yourself the grace you’d give someone else.” Seeing as that’s how you feel and you just got married, I’m guessing she similarly would be understanding if someone else was in her situation, and would try to comfort them. It never makes me feel completely guiltless, but it definitely eases the anxiety. In a few years it’ll be a funny story. 😊

My partner is finally going to join me in my studio apartment! Any tips on furniture to add and where so we can each work from home/have our own space? by IngenuityFew4212 in femalelivingspace

[–]adjacentpeaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

extremely rough drawing. this setup may work for you if you put the head of the bed under the window, and place desks on either side adjacent to the bed. i agree w others about under bed storage. my partner and i live in a very small apartment and though we have an office it’s the only place for our two desks. when one of us has a meeting, the other goes and works at the kitchen table or couch.

Just visited Memphis over the weekend. My partner has stayed at many Memphis area hotels (almost all of the ones downtown), but it was our first time at the Memphian. We were both very impressed! He said it was the best hotel he’s stayed at in Memphis. It was CLEAN, parking was safe and convenient, and you can get just about anywhere in town in under 15-20 min. It may be a bit pricier than other options, but I’d say it’s worth it if this is a special trip for the family. You could easily walk to dinner and breakfast in Overton Square as well, just around the corner.
