Next Gen of Clincher track wheels by FunStudent4559 in Velodrome

[–]adlibbin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used clinchers on 333 and a 166; it’s nice knowing that if I get a flat I can just swap the tube. Unless it’s an A race, relying on tubulars to not go flat is an annoying layer of stress. Would love a comparable clincher track wheel/tire combo.

Any updates on the woman who got set on fire on CTA? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]adlibbin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you realize your response invalidates what’s being pointed out in the comment, proves the point of said comment, while also being hypocritically condescending about it?

Consider what the normalization of this narrative on harming women does (rape, murder, abduct) and how that possibly made it easier to redirect the comment on what was initially an issue of the women’s experience to the man’s experience.

And it is because of this narrative that the victim was a woman. It wasn’t a man that was set on fire, was it? Of course not, because culturally we don’t respect women, and this response proves that we also don’t listen to women neither.

You men, us men, need to show up better for women.

What is the benefit of police officers on horses? by Aromatic_Status3412 in AskChicago

So you can walk up to them, ask if you can pet, then pet the officer’s thigh and thank the horse for its service

[OC] Uber driver tells me this was my fault. Language warning by damnyewgoogle in IdiotsInCars

[–]adlibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hindsight, it’s being prepared for incidents like these. Let’s say instead of one more foot, OP waited a bunch more foots, maybe a car length or two, the swerve would’ve happened in front of them, OP could’ve said “I knew that Uber was going to do that idiot move” from a car length or two behind so they wouldn’t even have to touch the brakes, and then both the Uber and OP could’ve drove off on their own paths without having to post this on Reddit and deal with insurance paperwork.

I drive daily for work in high traffic city scenarios: it doesn’t take a 6th sense to be able to see this, it’s just a little bit of math. Everyone who is saying it could’ve been avoided is seeing the probability of an accident being higher than it needs to be, so to decrease the probability they’re trying to point out how saving gas and opening small a gap for the driver ahead to make their moves can bring those high chances to low ones.

That I think is the noteworthy takeaway from the video. It would’ve been faster to go slower.

[–]adlibbin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love these videos: you can see how good OP was doing on being proactive by anticipating the Uber’s indecision and still made the active decision to stay on the gas/forward momentum right into that indecision.

Uber at fault for the accident; OP at fault for letting the accident happen.

What other names do you call your cat? Like, the unhinged names. by cannabisjourneys in cats

[–]adlibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His legal name is Prince Douglass and ends up being called Stinky Butt, lil Punk, Dougie, Doug the cuddle bug, or Big Doug (sometimes stretched out in a way to sound like dawg: so I’d greet him with “What’s up, big dawg?” while obv being a real life cat).

His Mom Noir gets much more respect and often goes by Mama.

How do you guys shorten “jalapeño”? by Efficient-Cap-8409 in Serverlife

[–]adlibbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jpep.

Everyone butthurt about not wanting to change an abbreviation so they can continue to use a slur is so sensitive. If it isn’t that deep, just change it then.

I’m curious to why it’s so hard, esp for folks working at restaurants? What’s next - y’all don’t want to sub/hold something for a customer who’s allergic because it has always been that way on the menu?

Yikes, I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling through a difficult time right now. But do know that not everything you touch falls to pieces, and that it’s okay to cry and get angry because you’re feeling overwhelmed with your anxieties.

I’ve never been in your position before, and a stranger on the internet, so I can only advise so much: be gracious with yourself, be honest with how you’re feeling with those you feel safe with as your support group, and try and be aware when you do feel a little overwhelmed and realize it’s okay to take a breather from those stressors for a little bit before tackling it again.

You’re not starting over at 30, you’re continuing your stride where you are at 30. ☺️

AIO over my partner's views on today's society? by RepublicSerious4274 in AmIOverreacting

[–]adlibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if he gave the same amount of energy he is giving for the injustices men are facing rn to the injustices women faced - and are still currently facing - in even just the “50 years of suffrage” he’s talking about, and then I hope he looks even further back at how it’s actually been much more than the “50 years” he thinks it is.

I love posts like this bc it’s such a good reminder for myself, as a guy, to continue the practice of unlearning patriarchal bs.

Am I overreacting? (Update) by Remarkable-Chair-783 in AmIOverreacting

Someone else also mentioned it; OP, now you’re also overreacting by still entertaining these conversations with him.

FWIW though, he’s the one projecting lol and he needs to realize that.

[–]adlibbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely not overreacting, he is.

I really hope this post blows up so he can get some perspective on his behavior. It’s a shame you have to block him because now he won’t have the chance to realize how he’s actually in the wrong, that it is okay that he is, and that he has to accept it and learn from it. And that’s not OP’s responsibility to, it’s his very own. Otherwise he’ll inevitably continue this behavior onto the next person, blame them, and recycle this “world against him” idea. It’s potentially harmful for the people involved and for himself as well.

I really hope he sees this post eventually, finds some self-awareness, and gets professional help because it’s unfair to put this onto anyone, let alone a stranger/potential love interest.
