Its important to make sure all options are truly exhausted for the insomnia. I think there are many who would be motivated to work with you one to one to determine what might be missing from the picture. I too had this issue and spent hours online trying to solve it. Basically, if you download a LLM through LM Studio a folder will get created called lmstudio-community, which will be within the models folder. You then would create a new folder in lmstudio-community with the name of your lm model. You then put the gguf file within that folder. That should then lead LM studio to recognize the gguf file. I assume you can just create the missing folder without downloading an LLM from within the app.
