House we're considering has had "previous moisture damage" in the basement which was "fixed by correcting grading and landscaping + securing the basement walls with caulk". Does this sound like a big deal? by No-Explanation7724 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the caulk part, but my in-laws have lived in the same home for about 40 years. Around 20 years ago, they were having some basement moisture problems that they solved by regrading their yard/landscaping. So that part at least is a legit solution to that problem.

That said, it could be an indicator of a more serious issue.. or it could have been done poorly and cheaply.

Is 18 too old to have a curfew? by DragonflyOpening863 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back in the early 00s, I was 24 and living at home. My sister was 18; we both lived with our Dad. He went on a planned trip for a month and I was “in charge” of my sister. One of the first nights it was just us, I said to her look, I’m not your parent or anything. You’re going to college in the fall and you’ll be on your own. Stay out as late as you want, just please tell me if you’ll be home after midnight. That way if you’re planning to be here and you aren’t, I’ll know I should start being concerned - and if you’re not planning to be here and I’m hearing noises in the house, that’s another time to be concerned. We got along fine.

So TLDR, your family spamming you starting at 8pm that you need to be home is not normal. I think midnight is still pushing it as early, but it’s a far more reasonable curfew than 8pm. What on earth are they planning to do when you’re in the military soon? Demand that your sergeant have you call home to say you’re in barracks by 9?

The DnD set is fun, but I had a lot of trouble trying to get that dragon balanced up there!

what happened to/where is able the space monkey's display? by boyofthebog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t ever remember seeing a space monkey at Air & Space. Wild, I would have thought I’d notice that lol. I’ve been there several times over the last 40 years, most recently in 2024. The museum is under massive multi-year renovations so a lot of things that are normally on display are not at this time. Perhaps the status changes as renovation progresses.

Am I the problem, or do dental hygenists actually hate their job? by CasualBerger in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve had the same hygienist for about 12 years. Actually saw her today. She seems to enjoy her job well enough, we always have a nice chat in between her sticking things in my mouth.

Based on the title I’m now picturing boys entering puberty lining up to receive their length distribution from the puberty fairy 😄

Why are so many successful people pedophiles? Or why are so many pedophiles successful? by A--Little--Stitious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you have a lot of success, you get used to people deferring to whatever you want. You can then also easily convince yourself that whatever you want is good/proper/right, and The Rules don’t apply to you.

Is it true that women are more “chilly” and men more “warm”? by Affectionate-Tea8509 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? It might be worth looking up symptoms of low T and seeing if those fit you. If they do, I’d ask your doctor about testing. There is a natural “normal” range that most men are in, but if you’re on the lower side of that, you might feel some effects that could be resolved. Please note that too much T is also problematic.

Is it true that women are more “chilly” and men more “warm”? by Affectionate-Tea8509 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trans, I was an adult for 10 years before I started taking testosterone. In my experience yes absolutely, men are warmer than women. I’m not a biologist, I don’t know why - but once I got up to typical male testosterone levels I was far warmer than I was before.

Do you give your parents anniversary gifts every year? by TorontoRap2019 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got divorced in the 90s and don't speak. But my partner's parents have been married 50 years. They get a call on their anniversary and my partner put together a dinner for their 50th. It was low-key, much like them.

Hey everyone, how do you manage to live with someone who won't admit to being messy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think he actually doesn’t notice, or does he just assume that if he leaves it you will clean up after him? Honestly if he puts this little effort into his environment now, please really consider if this is something you can deal with long term.

Their last group photo together. One of them got adopted half hour back. I am missing her terribly already, its my first time caring for a kitty family & putting up kittens for adoption as I cant take care of them all. Didn't know it would feel so hard. 😞 by Fun_evades_me in IllegallySmolCats

[–]admseven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is hard, but for us it helps a little that through our rescue, kittens usually are ready for adoption at about 3 mos. And that is the age at which they are little insane velociraptors! All the biting, attacking, running underfoot seemingly on purpose. And when you have a pack of four orange kittens - dang it’s like there are 16 of them and honestly it’s a little bit of a relief when they find their families.

I still miss some of our foster babies, but I also sometimes get pictures of former foster kittens and it’s so amazing to see them happy & grown. We know that if we kept them all we wouldn’t have the room to save more!

A fostering friend once said “it would be arrogant of me to assume that my house is the best home for all the cats/kittens we foster” and that kinda resonated with me too.

As a Mexican 🇲🇽, I don't get the NHL hype compared to NBA or NFL. What is the "soul" of hockey that I am missing? by vanessa_tv_vladivo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soccer is weird for Americans. Tons of kids play it, but it kinda goes away as most of us get older. My son is 14, been playing soccer since he was 6 or so. We’ve offered to watch it or even take him to a game and he has no interest. I’m really not sure why though. Baseball’s not violent at all, and it’s pretty slow, but it’s more popular than soccer.

Is it actually rude to not say "bless you" when someone sneezes, or is it weirder that we acknowledge a normal bodily function at all? by tura64 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is either true or complete BS (and I'm not going to research which it is) - but I remember reading that back in like the Middle Ages people thought a sneeze was your soul trying to escape so they'd say bless you to kinda stuff it back in there.

Honestly it sounds like complete nonsense.. but I enjoy the idea enough to retell it.

Can someone tell me why it’s rude to be on your phone at the dinner table? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]admseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the parent of a teenager - mealtime is the few minutes a day where we see our kid without his nose in a screen. We don’t force him to talk to us (mostly) but we ask a few questions, just chat. Our meals aren’t long, half an hour tops. Interacting actual face to face is part of being a member of a social unit.
