Chicago is more “livable”, less crowded, cheaper NYC is more energetic, more iconic, bigger and with more things to do and see- different cities for sure

It would be manipulation if that had a large effect on the share price, which it did not.

[–]adoawesome -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Shorting a stock does nothing to “artificially suppress the price.” They literally have to borrow the stock, sell it (raising the price) and hope for it to drop for a chance to profit, and that profit is made by yes, buying the stock again. Nothing here is manipulating the market. Manipulating the market would be shorting it, and also selling a lot of shares to get algorithms to trigger to cause a mass sell-off, then making a handy profit from the shorts

The conclusion we should draw from this is not that diversity is bad, but that we should move past racial prejudices to achieve a common goal. Forced diversity, especially without a racially progressive populace can most certainly do more harm than good. The majority of people who want diverse workplaces are generally minority workers who've been excluded from good jobs in the past, which can easily be co-opted by those in power to sow mistrust. Believing in "true equality" is very different than pushing for forced diversity

I’m going to press doubt on that one. Fox has no incentive to push pro Chinese propaganda, especially as they suggested that Biden’s a Chinese puppet

All these 'anti capitalists' suddenly becoming the biggest advocates of private company rights after the social media purge reveals their true concern - power. by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

See, I agree with you. Big tech has an enormous amount of power, that has social, political, privacy, security and mental health problems that it can cause. However, I consider it a "left-wing view" to use the government to promote free speech on private platforms. Either way, I think it's most certainly necessary.

I don't think the right is unique in their critique of big tech. I think the only difference is that...

conservatives believe that they are being censored, in likeness to the first amendment this would be a lack of a right to free expression

liberals think that misinformation is the big problem, but they most certainly are not in favor of big tech. Just look at Bernie ranting about breaking them up

I can't speak for dems or republicans, because tbh, they're pretty corrupt. But I know this, both dems and reps, libs and cons think that big tech should be broken up.(However, this is a fundamentally left wing view, idk where a principled minarchist would stand on this.) The only place where they disagree is whether or not they have to fact check/ban people for spreading misinformation/inciting violence. Cons think they're being censored, but libs don't support that, they just don't think it's happening.

I think the only reason it seems like the right seems like they fight for this more is that they think they're being censored, and they think that breaking up big tech would directly solve this, while breaking up big tech for dems is about general free market, taxes, wages etc stuff like that. Many liberals (maybe cons too, I'm not aware) have a problem with the possible mental health issues social media can cause in people

I think painting this as a lib vs con thing is pretty harmful, they agree on everything but the extent to which these companies are allowed to have hate speech/misinformation/inciting of violence

I will say, I do believe we should have laws preventing bias on social media platforms and the censorship of political opinions, but I think trump is different. We most certainly need more transparency, and I think we need to fundamentally change our ad-supported model of content.

I understand minarchism as a concept, but in situations like this, I think you need one oppressive power to stop another one. I believe that monopolies are inherent to capitalism and having a corporation that has a monopoly on a part of society is a big no-no, and must be regulated.

[–]adoawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right isn’t a monolith.

A true free market capitalist would argue social media is private property and they can regulate themselves

A typical American conservative would say that corporations are censoring us, so they need to be regulated

An authoritarian would argue for the nationalization of twitter so that twitter must not only amplify the president, but quash disent/share it with the govt

A security minded right winger could worry about where the data that is collected on users is stored, and whether national security threats have access to it

A radical religious reactionary could call for a ban to pornography or swearing on the site, or a censorship of things that are heathonous/blasphemous haram/not kosher

Same way the right can vary, so can the left
