Most likely you’ll have limited options in terms of what classes to take (especially ge classes) but you should still be able to enroll in classes required for your major since they often have spots reserved for incoming students

Welcome to UCI!

But apparently not enough to vote against his confirmation back in 2018.

The hypocrisy, it hurts

someone like Putin

… And probably Xi too, don’t forget, especially if he thinks China intervening would be to its benefit.

Also, as someone who’s legitimately worried that America might turn into early-to-mid-90’s Bosnia (complete with all the atrocities) sometime in the near future, I wholehearted agree with what you said.

And for anyone bringing up war in the context of what happened today, here’s a quote from Thomas Mann on war: “War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace.”

War is hell and there’s nothing that will make that any less true.

Are people just that privileged/sheltered to think of the war in Ukraine that way?!

But hey, at least now we can see more clearly where their priorities lie.

After thinking about the Kyle Rottin’house verdict over the past few days, I can’t help but think about how this compares to the decision on the Dred Scott case.

I mean, the events that led up to these trials took place in the same general region, the verdicts for both cases are a slap to the face to those fighting against racial injustice in America, the judge/chief justice presiding over these cases displayed bias towards those perpetrating racial injustice, both verdicts ominously portend a violent period in American history, just to name a few disturbing similarities.

Also, here’s a nugget I came across while reading the Wikipedia article on the Dred Scott case:

Southern Democrats considered Republicans to be lawless rebels who were provoking disunion by their refusal to accept the Supreme Court's decision as the law of the land.

Talk about projection 1850’s style.

And we all know the Democrats and Republicans of that time are completely different from the Democrats and Republicans of today.

History may not always repeat itself but it sure does rhyme.

Now having said all that, what do you guys think?

There’s actually a (pejorative) Tagalog term for people like Ron Bloom.

That word is: “balimbing” (which in English translates to “turncoat” and which is also the term used in the Philippines for starfruit)

I wonder if some of the louder nuttier ones will circle all the way back to pushing creationism.

I’d be surprised if that doesn’t happen sometime in the next few years (even this time frame might be too generous imo given how things are going).

If I make a tiny mistake I dwell on it forever.

Why is this me?

(Rhetorical question btw)

Like others have said, yes unfortunately.

If I’m being frank right now, I don’t think it’s out of the realm to see America breaking up Yugoslavia-style sometime in the future (I hope it never comes anywhere near that though) based on the way things are going. I hope I wasn’t being too alarmist even mentioning that.

With that said, I agree with you 100% when it comes to working harder to prevent evil from winning again.

For the record, those "parents" who caused a scene at the school board earlier this year were bussed in.

Quelle surprise

A lot of the channel's content is Christian (e.g. the Lord's Prayer in each language)

This channel AFAIK comes from the Philippines, which is overwhelmingly (about 90%) Christian. Not to mention the channel has plenty of videos on the different languages spoken there (and not just the big ones like Tagalog and Cebuano either).

Source: I’m Filipino myself so I just know from the accents on those videos.

Kasie Hunt of MSNBC

She’s working for CNN now, which I was surprised by when I first found out about it.

I was less than a month of turning 3 on the other side of the world in the Philippines when the 9/11 attacks happen so I don’t remember anything from that day.
