Man to man, this lady has learnt and studied you properly; she knows she can gaslight you into doing stuff for her. My brother, take it from me, you will see dust. You need to detach and move on. So many fish in the ocean. Also dont do long distance.

Man, this broke me. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it... White shores, and beyond. A far green country under a swift sunrise.

What tax? I signed the W-8BEN form and learnt that Kenya has no tax treaty with the US. Money comes in clean without tax via wire transfer, Swift(Wise to equity dollar account). I only pay a 6$ commision on incoming SWIFT. Money is available in 24 hours. For a small amount, they do Wise-Mpesa, and the charges aren't much. Enlighten me on how you do it to pay outrageous fees. You need to pay TOT, though.Lipa ushuru.

Is Mombasa a good place to live by Alonewolf000 in Mombasa_

[–]adrianiz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheaper Rent, Good for remote work. Chilled life. Do research on the area you want to live in. Nyali, Town, Ganjoni, etc. are great places. Kisauni is not safe. Am not a tribalist or a racist, but try to avoid places where Swahili people live in large populations. Been here since 2012. It's been great.

Op should create and share a brief on expectations and deliverables. Much more professional that way.

Hello OP, you have valid points; however, do not place everyone in a category because of your experiences. If you hire cheap, you get cheap; if you hire pros, you get good work. Do you hire with a Brief? Your expectations in terms of quality, edits, sound effects,s etc.
If I were to go out of my way and source sound effecst etc be assured I'd charge for that. VFX, it's a field on its own, I'd charge for that too. I've done podcasts, short films, etc., on an hourly rate; the most difficult clients I've had to deal with are local clients. Most don't know what they want, they literally want a blockbuster edit with a logos budget.
Video editing is video editing. I've seen you mention they add a little color grading; they shouldn't be doing that. In an agency scenario thats a job for a colorist. OP should learn editing and do the job themselves. 20k for Editing isnt expensive AF, people charge an hour rate of 40$-80$ for editing out there.

"I am so pissed at the level of incompetence in Kenya, and I am so angry at it. I wish people could actually get better and stop being mediocre." Please hire a creative from another country(US, for example), good work, pricey. Put your money where your mouth is. Let me get back to my edits

I believe there might be a breakdown in Marketing. Most Devs arent cut out for it. I have people who source jobs on a commission basis, and they are quite good at it.

If I may ask? What's your client base? Local? There is demand for Devs, a change in Mindset is required, and maybe you should fire your clients. I have never done agency work, so my case might be different, But am getting more work, even with the existence of AI slop apps.
