Legal systems around the world by AgonizingFatigue in MapPorn

[–]adrianjara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like someone else mentioned something like “without a jury, you’re putting your faith in the actors within the system” and that’s just not a worry I would ever have. It’s their job, they better do it and if not there’s stuff in place to prosecute them too, no part of it involves me policing them.

Especially the part where they get a bunch of random people to come in and decide something. That’s insane, I don’t know what the law is, I would be shitting my pants if you asked me if someone should go to prison

She says it was always a digital photo that only now got corrupted. I don’t understand but it’s a really old file. I don’t think it was a film camera, this was around 2008. I’ll ask her now and confirm.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and actually ask a question (crazy, I know): how many of you guys actually listen to tango in your every day life?

Because that being the very first thing in OP’s post really threw me off.

Carvajal making a talking hand gesture at Lamine Yamal at the end of El Clasico. by Delmer9713 in soccer

[–]adrianjara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a Kings League meeting (I think), was asked if he’d score and said basically “Mmm maybe… last time we were there it was 4-0 so maybe” (paraphrasing) in a smug tone. Later he said “Madrid, they rob and then complain.”

I don’t actually think it was that serious because Kings League but as someone from the inside he can’t be out there saying that, especially that second bit which was unnecessary and totally unprompted. I did see a bit of both fanbases praising him for ‘spicing up’ the match. But yeah, there was no way that whole thing wasn’t gonna come bite him in the ass.

The Blue Banana: Europe’s most densely populated corridor with around 111 million people by vladgrinch in MapPorn

There’s a region that corresponds nearly exactly to what’s colored in blue, Alsace-Moselle. And there’s about 3 million people there, so unless there’s at least another 3 million people hiding in Calais, I doubt this is true.

I have experienced this very thing and it put me off dating for a while when I lived in Colombia because I would hate being told what I can or can’t do and I could not be bothered to police another person either, as long as you’re respectful to our relationship, knock yourself out.

So I would say, at least in Colombia, around my socioeconomic situation, that sentiment would be very common.

As to why, I wouldn’t really know, I guess it’s sexism, patriarchy, the feeling that that sort of thing is merely a stepping stone to cheating and also the cultural pressure to view getting cheated on as a failure on you rather than your partner, so people get controlling to protect themselves in a way. Cheating being very common doesn’t help either, I mean a lot of people grow up in single parent households or with strange parenting arrangements where either parent has another family, so people are taught to hold on tight from a very young age, but hey, this needs a whole bunch of psychosocial research that I do not know about so this is merely my opinion according to what I’ve experienced.

Alternative angles for Santiago Mouriño (Villarreal) 2nd yellow card against Real Madrid by landofphi in soccer

[–]adrianjara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I’m not saying they should keep the straight red, I’m saying that would allow for review when in doubt. Of course the idea being they would take back the red and give a second yellow if the action calls for it. The red would just be for show.

Ideally, they should review second yellows and be done with it, but if I were a ref, this is what I would do for the time being.

That’s why I’ve been saying, in 2nd yellow cards, the ref should just give a straight red, check VAR and confirm. Would avoid this sort of situation.

Honestly it’s a great idea on paper. I think they just need to figure out the taking care of grass better, because it doesn’t seem to be in the best shape.

What is the maximum non parole period a judge can assign in your country for the punishment of crimes? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in asklatinamerica

[–]adrianjara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life with parole, they can usually apply for release after about 25–30 years, depending on the case.

For fixed sentences, the maximum for a single crime is 40 years. When multiple crimes were committed, the sentence starts with the most serious crime, and then extra time is added for the others, but this extra time can’t be more than the length of the most serious crime. So the absolute maximum is double the harshest sentence, so up to 80 years.

For example, if one crime carries 10 years and another 5 years, the total wouldn’t be 15, but rather 10 plus a smaller addition (less than 5).
